20.01.2022 Today was an exciting one! First day in the new therapy space in Balaklava, created by my beautiful friend and colleague Eliza Cottle of Living Free Occupational Therapy and her talented, hard working family. Can’t wait to work alongside you again. Thank you to the first families who came in today, I had so much fun with you!

18.01.2022 Let’s talk PRESSURE - your kiddo can sense pressure when they eat, and it actually makes them less likely to take a bite! Will you tag a friend who might find t...his helpful? Friends, we need you to hear a few things: 1) You might be feeling stressed about how and what your kid eats. You want what’s best for them. We hear you. If you’re pressuring them to eat, it’s because you’re frustrated and worried. 2) Kids can only control so much in their environment. They are trying their best to be autonomous, but they don’t get a say in most things. What they put in their mouth is something they can control. 3) When kids sense pressure around food, their automatic response is to dig in their heels, to push back. When we lay off the pressure, they feel safe exploring new or less comfortable foods because they perceive that it’s their choice. They also know that they don’t have to commit to eating it if they take a bite or even put it in their mouth and take it out. 4) We don’t always know why kids refuse foods - they may have very valid reasons that we don’t understand. When we push them to eat something, we assume we know more about their body and hunger/fullness cues than they do. But Judy and Megan, what if my kid won’t eat? Don’t I need to make them? 1) Try laying off the pressure. It’s amazing how quickly kids can shift their participation in mealtime when they don’t sense our pressure. 2) Remember that this is a process. They’re not going to eat balanced meals at every meal or even every day. Look at the whole week. 3) It’s OK to encourage them to interact with the food - Can you scoop some beans onto my plate? Don’t forget to eat the food yourself! 4) Consider our online Toddler Course if you’re struggling - we share how we help our clients navigate picky eating with less stress. https://www.feedinglittles.com/toddler-course.html See more

06.01.2022 Mealtime Occupational Therapy

03.01.2022 Such a great reminder...

02.01.2022 Excited to share the beginning of Your Family Table! I can't wait to start working with more local families around the challenges our kids face accepting foods, participating in mealtimes and of course the social implications of such limitations to name a few. You may wonder why an occupational therapist is focusing on mealtimes... well mealtimes and eating are one of the essential and meaningful 'occupations' that our children face many times every day and I am so very passionate that successful mealtimes support relationships within families, build important skills for independence as well as supporting many other skills throughout the process. So please feel free to send me a message and have a chat about how I could support your family.
