13.01.2022 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every day 55 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer. 1 in 7 women in NSW will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Men can also get breast cancer, but this is rare. It is important to be ‘breast aware’ and keep a look out for any changes in the breast. Take the time to get to know the normal look and feel of your breasts as part of everyday activities like showering, dressing, putting on body lotion, o...r simply looking in the mirror. Knowing what is normal for you will help you detect any new breast or nipple changes. Breast changes to look out for include: a new lump or lumpiness a change in the size or shape of your breast a change to the nipple, such as crusting, ulcer, redness or inversion a nipple discharge that occurs without squeezing a change in the skin of your breast such as redness or dimpling an unusual pain that doesn't go away. No matter how busy you are if you find a change in your breast, see your doctor without delay. Early detection is vital to surviving breast cancer. Women aged between 50 and 74 are invited to access free screening mammograms every two years via the BreastScreen Australia Program. Women aged 40-49 and 75 and over are also eligible to receive free mammograms, however do not receive an invitation to attend. It is recommended that women with a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer, aged between 40 and 49 or over 75 discuss options with their GP. https://www.doitforcancer.com.au/womans-cance/breast-cancer https://www.breastscreen.nsw.gov.au/

We are committed to providing the highest level of care available during the current Covid-19 (Coronavirus) crisis. In order to provide safe care by minimising the number of patients in the practice at any one time, we offer telehealth consultations in the first instance. Patients will be assessed and triaged, and if necessary you may come into the practice for a face-to-face consultation. Telehealt...h consultations. Telehealth refers to the provision of a consultation over a telephone or video call. Our clinical team will be able to discuss your issues and develope an effective management plan with you. They can utilise a variety of communication strategies to ensure we provide you the best care possible - email, video call, photo sharing via email. If appropriate, the team may organise for you to come into the practice for a face-to-face review. Face-to-Face Consultations. At Your Doctors we recognise that not everything can be done via telehealth. For many procedures and consultations we will continue to offer face-to-face consultations (eg Immunisations and Cervical Screening). However, we will not be offering some non-urgent procedures and treatments. Please discuss your situation with our team when booking your appointment. It may be necessary to book a telehealth consultation first, with provisions made to bring you in afterwards. On the day of your booking you will receive a courtesy call from one of our clinical staff to ensure you remain at low risk with regard to Covid-19/Coronavirus. Online booking system: To ensure the health and safety of our patients, staff and others at the workplace, we have temporarily turned off all online appointment bookings. Your co-operation and patience during this screening process is greatly appreciated and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
