25.01.2022 Due to the community transmission of the UK strain of COVID-19 in Brisbane, Qld Health have imposed a 3-day lockdown for the Greater Brisbane area. From 6pm tonight, Friday 8 January, until 6pm Monday 11 January, people in the local government areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands and Logan will be required to stay at home. For more information, click this link: https://www.qld.gov.au//current-/greater-brisbane-lockdown... 15.01.2022 YAC members and supporters attended our 39th AGM on Wednesday. Our sincere thanks to the Brisbane Arts Theatre who provided us with a wonderful venue. We are also very grateful for Mr. Scott McDougall, Queensland’s Human Rights Commissioner, who spoke of the need to: ‘listen to those most affected, and that is children and First Nations people. We can do that by ensuring that the rights of children and cultural rights, which are now protected in law in Queensland, are cent...ral to decision making.’ See all of Mr. McDougall’s address here: https://www.yac.net.au//Scott-McDougall_Human-Rights-Commi

11.01.2022 Youth Worker Bail and Order Support Service (BOSS) Caboolture based 28 hours per week Contract to 30 June 2021 (extension subject to funding)... SCHCDS Award Level 4 This is a great opportunity to join a well-respected community legal and social welfare agency for young people and play your part in helping young people and their families to get their lives back on track! YAC has an expectation that all staff will be reliable and punctual, both within the office and in responding to young people and their families, and that they will support diversity and respect in the work place and in their practice. 09.01.2022 Great to visit Government House yesterday to acknowledge the support of the Lady Bowen Trust, who provide support for our homelessness programs. These vital funds help us to enable young people experiencing homelessness to maintain safe and secure housing, including tenancies. This support has been especially needed during COVID-19.

05.01.2022 If you are considering what it might be like to work for YAC, here's an insight that our CEO, Janet Wight, provided to Ethical Jobs.

03.01.2022 ‘Nobody hustles like YAC’. That was a comment made by one of our staff recently whilst championing, rather passionately, the lengths to which YAC workers go for our clients. 02.01.2022 As we enter another election period, once again the issue of youth justice has been raised and, not unusually, it is not in a positive way. YAC has sent this Orange Paper to every candidate in a bid to provide them with an opportunity to commit to (increased) investment in those areas which we know will be more likely to prevent youth offending and divert young offenders. It is a cross government approach because young people who become involved in the justice system are ge...nerally troubled before becoming troublesome. As Archbishop Desmond Tutu has said: 'There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.' Please pass this Orange Paper on to any others you think might be interested or would benefit from having the information! https://www.yac.net.au//Orange-Paper-2_Election-2020-final

02.01.2022 Solicitor position available at YAC Full time 12-month contract; immediate start This is a great opportunity to join a well-respected specialist community legal centre and social welfare agency for young people and play your part in helping young people and their families to get their lives back on track! YAC has a multidisciplinary team delivering services across the greater Brisbane area to young people aged 10-18 years who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in t...he youth justice and/or child protection systems, and/or are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The role therefore involves significant travel across a large physical area (a YAC vehicle is provided for work-related travel). YAC’s legal team currently comprises three lawyers, two full-time and one part-time, and we now have an opportunity for an additional full-time position for the next 12 months. In addition to youth justice and child protection matters, YAC is keen to better understand the involvement of those under 18 in proceedings under the Domestic Violence Act and related breach proceedings. The successful applicant will gain a practical understanding of the issue by consulting stakeholders, attending courts, conducting a needs analysis to develop and implement a tailored response for young people. This may serve as a framework for future funding opportunities.
