13.01.2022 Marcus Conway from Kurri High School has secured a position as a labourer at Solid Engineering after completing Work Placement organised by the Youth Express team. He will start an apprenticeship in January 2021. He is polite, has great enthusiasm and is very keen he rides his pushie to work for a 6am start every morning!... Trevor, his supervisor, said that Marcus is an exceptional young man and is being trained in the basics at the moment and has a good future at Solid Engineering. Trevor started his career as a Work Experience student and likes to take lots of students annually as he likes supporting our young people and it’s also a great way for the company to screen new employees. Thanks Solid Engineering for supporting our Work Placement Program.

09.01.2022 Another successful Career Quest complete at Francis Greenway HS. Thank you to all our valuable business and industry representatives that volunteered their time to speak to local young people about their career journey. Career Quest’s offer students the opportunity to investigate and learn about 12 different industries and their career and educational pathways. Local industry leaders offer their time to present a short showcase of their personal employment pathway, industry expectation’s, barriers faced and the career opportunities that are available in their current industry.



09.01.2022 The Annual Youth Express Vocational Education & Training Awards was held this morning, Tuesday 24 November 2020 at Club Maitland City, Rutherford. The Robert Beggs & Peter Hilder Memorial Vocational Education Awards recognise the achievements of VET students, teachers and businesses across the Hunter. It recognises those with passion, commitment and dedication to Vocational Education. Nominations are received from schools and staff and interviewed by the Youth Express board w...ho support the selection process. At the breakfast, families, educators and nominated students were recognised with the winners receiving a perpetual plaque in the Vocational Teacher, Vocational student and Vocational Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander student of the year awards. 07.01.2022 Vibrant Spaces for a Vibrant Future: Youth Express has partnered with Karuah Landcare Group, Litoria Ecological Restoration Services and Port Stephens Council to revegetate and plant native grasses along the Karuah foreshore. Stage 1 was completed on the 3rd of November, 2020. With stage 2 to commence in 2021. Port Stephens Council has proudly supported funding for materials through the Vibrant Spaces Fund to purchase resources that will see over 1,500 plants established alon...g the Karuah River. The pilot project will create a framework to link community partners in creating lasting change whilst supporting young people gain skills needed as part of their career journey. It is a community response in time of COVID to collaborate, and create a vibrant space for future generations. Outcomes from the project will support the Karuah community by: Stabilising soil on steep embankments to reduce sediment contributions to the Karuah River estuary Reduce ongoing maintenance by Council and RMS in the form of slashing and blanket spraying of herbicide Dramatically improve the aesthetics of the Karuah River foreshore Provide increased foraging opportunities for local fauna Restore part of Karuah’s natural heritage. Pre works planning and preparation, supervision during the project and ongoing site maintenance is being provided by Litoria Ecological Services and Karuah Landcare. We would like to offer our deepest thanks to Litoria, who has donated Managing Director Aaron Crotty and Cheryl Crotty as site supervisors and lead mentors. Their decade of work in bush regeneration and natural area management will be of great value in passing on industry knowledge to our young people. Litoria Ecological Restoration Services offers the full range of environmental consultancy including reporting, monitoring, and flora and fauna survey work. Their consultancy staff are experienced in producing quality and informative reporting to better understand the ecology of a site, the threats to ecology and soil, and how to manage the eco/urban interfaces.
