23.01.2022 Hello friends. We have made the hard decision to cancel our September 2020 DTS. As the world still grapples with Covid-19, we’ve realized it’s unrealistic for us to proceed with the assumption that our borders will open any time soon. (We also currently have six staff unable to get into Australia due to these same restrictions, so the border closures have had significant impact on us as a ministry.) AUSTRALIA'S BORDER SITUATION Australia has largely curbed the spread of the v...Continue reading

22.01.2022 I sat on my bed reliving the moment I had spent 10 years trying to forget. Tears streamed down my face. I knew the only way to break free from the prison this memory held me in was to finally tell someone. I couldn’t hold it in any longer. There never was a 'right' moment to tell a story like this, but I knew I could never get closer to God if I didn’t put a voice to it, if I didn’t get it outside of me. Would I even be able to get the words out? But somewhere deep inside, I... knew it didn’t matter how much I could say, I simply had to try. [Lo, DTS alum, YWAM Madison] Like Lo, you too may have painful memories you wish you could forget. But the path to healing isn’t always easy. True healing only comes as we excavate the dark depths of the wound and release forgiveness. We hope you will find these 11 steps as helpful in your process as they were in Lo’s. https://ywammadison.org/11-steps-to-heal-a-broken-heart.../

22.01.2022 Happy birthday, Queen J. We love you!

22.01.2022 Our prayer is that this ecumenical remembrance service will provide you space to grieve with hope if you've experienced #miscarriage, #stillbirth, #infertility, or other forms of perinatal loss. Within the service is time to lament, reflect, honor your baby, receive comfort from Jesus, give thanks that we’re not alone, andmost importantlytime to hope. Please set aside 45 minutes (or a bit more if you want to sit in reflection through the beautiful music at both ends), and ...prepare to light a candle together midway through the service. We hope that as you watch this service from the privacy of your own home or with a small group or other gathering, you will feel a sense of solidarity with other bereaved mothers, fathers, family members, and loved ones across the world. We see you. We honor you. We honor your baby. 18.01.2022 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christians reflect on what Australia saying sorry meant for them.

17.01.2022 This was going to be a local outreach/ministry event in Sydney but due to the pandemic we've pivoted to offering it online instead. :) The team has been prayerfully putting this together and our deep hope is that it will serve bereaved families who feel even more isolated during these strange times. Please share with anyone you feel will be blessed. The program is a simple service of lament, reflection, thanksgiving, and hope, and it includes prayers, scripture, and two musical performances. Find the full program, free registration, and details for your timezone here: www.babylossremembrance.com

17.01.2022 Love this from our friends at YWAM Kona Music! Thank you!

12.01.2022 Ruach: Breath of God Ruach is the Hebrew word used in scripture for the breath of God. It is wind, Spirit, life. It’s not so much a physical force but an essenceGod’s essence that sustains life. It’s sometimes also translated as Spirit of God, such as in Genesis chapter 1. As we continue to pray for the USA, for our own nation, and for people all over the world experiencing suffering from the consequences of individual, generational, and systemic sins, we are praying God’s b...reath of LIFE to like a mighty wind to bring the change, justice, truth, healing, hope, and peace that people in pain are crying out for. God, may your Holy Spirit guide, comfort, sustain, and empower the Body of Christ to be carriers of your Life during this time. May we receive Life, give birth to Life, afford dignity to Life, honour Life, uphold Life, and celebrate Life. God’s Life-Breath matters. We’ll be pausing our social media content for a few days while we consider how we are receiving and giving the Spirit of God’s breath of Life during this most serious cultural moment. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:1-4) God, we sense you hovering over the surface of the deep and we humbly ask, would you again create something new? Would you again bring Life? Would you again separate the light from darkness? Amen. #breathofGod #SpiritofGod #ruach #life #justice #truth #hope #peace #madeintheimageofgod #imagodei #icantbreath #ywam

12.01.2022 HISTORY TIME: HONOURING MABO Today is Mabo Day. In 1992 the High Court of Australia overturned the doctrine of Terra Nullius, which translates to land of no-one. This is the theory that declared there were no people who occupied Australia when the colonists arrived in 1788, even though they were face to face with our First Nations People. The overturning of this doctrine made way for the Mabo Act, an important step forward for Indigenous land rights in Australia and upend...ing the doctrine of Terra Nullius. We honour Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Meriam man from Mer in the Torres Straights Islands who campaigned for Indigenous land rights and was instrumental in the landmark decision of the High Court, though he did’t live to see the day the Mabo Act was passed. As National Reconciliation Week here in the lands now called Australia comes to a close, we recognize that Australia still groans with the residual effects of the Terra Nulius doctrine. Black lives and experiences and culture and land have been stolen and oppressed and there continues to be social, economic, and political disparityunequal justice in our institutions, communities, and attitudes. As immigrants on Gadigal Land, we recognise our Indigenous brothers and sisters as the original and rightful custodians of this land now called Australia, and we honor Elders past, present, and emerging. We see our Indigenous community as deeply spiritual, resilient, persevering, determined, and full of ingenuity and creativity as they have cared for and cultivated this home we love. They lead with wisdom in the stewardship of our land, and carry a deep spirituality and experience that we honour and need to learn from. As a team here at @ywamsydneynewtown, we affirm that there’s a deep, open wound in our nation that can't simply be covered up, and we wholeheartedly accept that our job is to listen intently and act intentionally to right our wrongs and create something beautiful together. And today WE HONOUR MABO. Illustration by: @olafhajek #maboday #nationalreconciliationweek #blacklivesmatter #aboriginallivesmatter #indigenousaustralia

10.01.2022 Today is Mabo Day. Today we remember the Mabo No. 2 High Court decision on 3 June 1992 - overturning the lie of Terra Nullius. We acknowledge the work of Uncle ...Eddie Koiki Mabo. Whilst 3 June marks the end of National Reconciliation Week 2020, we commit to #StillWalkingForReconciliation and we look ahead to NAIDOC Week #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe. As we remember the 20th anniversary of the Walks for Reconciliation, as we grieve the destruction of sacred sites, and as we take action for justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we pray for hope and healing as we are led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian Leaders to pursue friendship and Reconciliation in our lifetime. 08.01.2022 This iconic mural is situated at the heart of Newtown, Sydney a few blocks from where we live. As racial tensions have been highlighted around the world it seems to be especially appropriate to share. We love seeing one of the heroes of our faith painted alongside our own Aboriginal Australian flag. The Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr. made his I Have a Dream speech on August 28, 1963 as he called for an end to racism in the United States. Fifty-seven years later we are w...atching as the very same cry is being uttered in prayer and in protest, led by our Black brothers and sisters across the nation and around the world. Our hearts and prayers go out to George Floyd's family and friends, just as we extend them to each and every community and individual who has experienced the very real evil of racism, as well as friends and allies who have committed to learn and take action. May justice flow like a river and in its wake bring deliverance, healing, hope, and restoration. 03.01.2022 We're pleased to share this service our team is providing for bereaved families. Thanks to Covid this has gone from being a Sydney service to an international online service. :) We hope it will bless many as we hold space for grief and honor babies lost to miscarriage and stillbirth and other forms of perinatal loss.

02.01.2022 For our team leadership at YWAM Sydney Newtown there is no controversy when it comes to the equal right of justice for all people. We stand with our Aboriginal, Torres Straight Islander, and Black and Brown friends and communities and support all non-violent demands for equality and justice in our nation for all people of color. As a mission agency made up of peoples from many nations and denominations, we recognise our unique responsibility to practice what we preach and ens...ure that our beliefs are outworked in our structures, theologies, and practices right here in our own local context. Being diverse and committed to celebrating culture in and of itself doesn’t make us anti-racist. It’s a good start but we believe there’s more work to be done in listening, learning, examining, and acting justly. It’s our ambition and intention to see and affirm the imago Deithe image of Godin all individuals in our teams, training schools, leadership structures, and community involvement and outreach. Jesus knows the pain of injustice intimately and our hope is that we will always be found in his footsteps joining in solidarity with the marginalised and oppressed, doing our part to see Kingdom Come on earth as it is in heaven. We believe Black lives matter, just as we believe all life matters, and it's our intention to live and serve in such a way that our light will shine in order to glorify God (Mt 5:3-16) as we "Know God and Make Him Known." May we be a people of both prayer and action, and may we live and walk softly on these Gadigal Lands we find ourselves so privileged to call our home.
