18.01.2022 Right now, we’re all facing the same storm, but we’re all doing so in different boats Some have yachts, others are in tinnies. Some have a substantial crew on ...board, others are rowing alone. Some have life jackets (higher resilience, stronger relationships, more optimism, use their strengths and more positivity), others don’t even have a working rudder... I have been using this boat analogy a lot this week (after hearing it from @janewundersitz) to explain why some people are handling the current crisis better than others.. We are not all in the same boat. We are all in the same storm. That summation of our current situation originally came from Damian Barr (the illustration is by Barbara Kelley), who suggested that some of us will sail through this pandemic with our health and jobs intact, yet others will lose one or both, or potentially more. So if you’re wondering why others are fairing better or worse than you at the moment, perhaps it’s worth considering what type of boat they are in.

12.01.2022 While the club has been enjoying week upon week of agreeable breezes, one absent member, enduring the tempest of hospital food, has fine tuned his irritable vowel syndrome. Sailing most days (tides permitting) Tom has tacked, gybed, ran and reached (food again). On board a Sailability flyer, wearing cotton pyjamas, no life vest, a smile and no care, he has sailed beyond the confines of Lake Mulwala. With the Transpac series yet to be raced above the equator, he has recorded p...rovisional Line Honours in the Manangatang Martyrs Jubilee Cup, and a credible 34th in the over 70s One-legged Nyora Non-Ferrous Metals Weekly Invitational. Although banned from entry into the Tokyo Olympic Trials for using a yet to be approved weight loss theatre, a High Court writ has been granted for a Special Resolution at the AGM to allow Legless to race at club level. The Parole Board has approved conditional release, suspiciously two days short of long service leave requirement of 4 months. He has to report to YYC every week and demonstrate that legs indeed tangle sheets. See you next week. Tom Hutchison. See more
