17.01.2022 Whilst we don't use head halters, I've seen the flexi & head halter combo used... Shouldn't even need to be said But don't attach your head collar to a flexi lead Attach it to a standard leash. On a flexi, you're applying constant pressure and desensitizing your dog to leash pressure. Hitting the end of a flexi on a head halter can cause some serious damage. ... If you have a dog with problem behaviour, adopt the NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE training style, Recall for a high value meal, put meals in Kong toys and not in bowls. Engage in a tug game with your dog. Enjoy a cuddle on the couch, once you've invited your dog up. Groom your dog. Brush them, even if they have short fur (zoom groom), clip their nails, clean their ears.

15.01.2022 I feel so passionately about doing best by our dogs, and that starts by choosing the right dog for your household. Time and time again, I see big, powerful, energetic working breeds stuck in tiny townhouses with owners who work 9-5 jobs. These owners get these dogs, love the heck out of them while they're cute puppies and then get frustrated when their dog is destroying their backyard. Lets have a look at a few of Australia's most popular dog breeds. Labrador Retrievers... Staffordshire Bull Terrier French Bulldogs German Shepherd Border Collie American Staffordshire Terrier Rottweiler Apart from the French Bulldog, what do these breeds have in common? They're all working breeds. Bred for their endurance, intelligence and working ability, these dogs make fantastic working dogs. They also make fantastic pets if they are worked physically and mentally. Unfortunately a 20 minute walk isn't enough to tire out most dogs. Working your dogs mind is equally as important as working his body. Puzzle games, nose work, Kong toys, trick training, obedience, agility and home alone toys are all fantastic ideas for keeping your dog's mind active. If you are time poor, hiring a reputable dog walker is a fantastic idea. Break up your dogs day with a friendly face coming in to exercise their body. If you're lucky, your dog walker may be able to give your dog a puzzle toy to work their mind. Quick tip: all food comes out of a puzzle game/ Kong we don't use dog bowls here! A bored and/or under worked dog will start displaying behaviours such as spinning, fence jumping, destroying the yard, howling, barking ect. You may find the dog develops issues such as anxiety. Dogs need to be worked. If you own a working breed, they need stimulation. Otherwise you're going to end up with a whole heap of issues. I promise.

07.01.2022 PLEASE SPEND 1 MINUTE TO HELP GET US BACK TO WORK! There is a petition going to allow dog trainers to go back to work. Now, obviously, I want to get back to work, but the issue is much bigger than that. We are seeing a huge rise in separation anxiety issues and aggression towards family members. These are all clearly linked to people staying at home, and structure going out the windows.... So while I have biased opinions about whether or not dog training is essential, it is now proving itself to have become a huge issues. Please take 1 minute out of your time and sign the petition, so me and my fellow trainers can get back to helping people and their dogs! Thanks!
