23.01.2022 Think your iPhone or Android phone are immune from virus and malware infections? Think again. Smartphones are an attractive target for malware, full of personal information and lists of phone numbers. Although smartphone infections are not yet as common as computer infections, they are increasing at an alarming rate. Smartphone malware primarily targets Android devices, due to the freely available information about Google’s open-source Android operating system. However iO...S devices are also not immune, with 2014 marking the first recorded mass infection of stock iOS devices (iPhones) connected via USB to Mac OS computers in China, via Apps downloaded from a third-party App Store. How do smartphones become infected? The most common way is through Apps downloaded from App Stores. While Apps downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play are generally quite safe, you must use common sense when evaluating which Apps to install on your device. Here are a few tips to keep you safe. 1. Back Up your Device regularly, to your computer or to the cloud. If you need to wipe your smartphone, you’ll be glad you did. 2. Never install Apps from third-party App stores. Stick to the Apple App Store and Google Play, who screen Apps before presenting them to the public for download. 3. Stick to well-known and well-reviewed Apps. 4. Pay Attention to the Permissions that are being requested when you install Apps on your phone. If an App is asking for access to parts of your device that it shouldn’t require (for example your camera or contact lists) then don’t install it. 5. There are several free antivirus Apps available for smartphones and tablet, which can help prevent common malware and adware infections. Search your App Store for more information. 20.01.2022 Dear Fellow Small Business Owners, Are your web sites ready for 21 April 2015? Starting on this date, Google's search index ranking algorithm will change, increasing the importance and weighting of your web site's compatibility and ease of use on mobile devices. This means that if Google's analysis of your web site finds that it is mobile-friendly, it will rank higher than other web sites appearing in the same set of search results which are not mobile-friendly.... A mobile-friendly web site is easily viewed at smaller resolutions, or is responsive in design and/or layout as the resolution or size of the user's viewport changes. To check if your web site is mobile friendly, use Google's free Mobile-Friendly Test located at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ Best of Luck with your Web Site! Evan Zentech

18.01.2022 Happy World Backup Day! Ask yourself: What would I do if I lost EVERYTHING? Believe it or not, 31 March 2015 is World Backup Day. If even a single file on your computer is something you can’t afford to lose, then you can’t afford not to Backup. Not yet convinced? Here are some interesting facts from www.worldbackupday.com:... -30% of people have NEVER backed up -113 phones are lost or stolen EVERY MINUTE -1 in 10 computers (10%) are infected with viruses EACH MONTH Backing up can be as easy as copying your important files to a USB flash drive and keeping it somewhere safe. Other solutions include backing up to the Cloud. This can be configured as a set-and-forget solution that automatically uploads a copy of your files to secure storage on the net. Need a hand getting set up? Just ask a question in the comments below. Evan @ Zentech

04.01.2022 Malware is one of a host of dangers that await while surfing the web. Specifically defined by its intent, Malware (or malicious software) finds its way onto your computer through a variety of means and exposes your private information or interrupts the normal operation of your computer. Malware as a category can also include Viruses, Trojans, Worms, and other threats to your computer, your data and your privacy. How can you protect yourself from these types of threats? Her...e are a few tips that will help your enjoy the net safely. 1. Install anti-virus software, and keep it up to date. There are ample free anti-virus platforms available, our favourite is AVG and can be downloaded for free. Even the free basic version of AVG provides excellent protection and is constantly updated so that it can recognise the latest viruses. 2. Schedule your Anti-Virus software for regular deep scans. Most Anti-Virus software constantly runs in the background, scanning all files as they are opened and modified on your system. A deep scan checks through the full list of files on your system, including parts of your Operating System that might not regularly be checked. 3. If you suspect you might have a malware problem, try scanning your computer with a dedicated malware scanner. There are a variety of free malware scanners (our favourite is Anti-Malware Bytes) which will help clean your system of anything your Anti-Virus might have missed. If you find yourself unable to get rid of a stubborn Virus or piece of Malware, give Zentech a call! We’ll help you scrub down your gear and teach you how to prevent future infections.
