25.01.2022 Let’s do this in Australia.
25.01.2022 The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is on this week and finishes on Sunday 25 October 2020. Over 1.7 million birds have been counted across Australia as of this afternoon! Visit www.aussiebirdcount.org.au for more information and to register (or you can do this easily via the bird count app). The free bird count app can be downloaded from your app provider for example Google Play or the App store. You will need an email address to register to use the app. Once you have submitted a... count, you can then view your own statistics and a map on your phone, in addition to the live statistics for the entire count. Alternatively, you can collect data during a 20 minute count using a stopwatch, and the recording sheet attached. This data can be submitted as a checklist on the website. More information is available on Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Facebook page and at www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/citizen-science-opportunities Top Tips for the Count Download the free Bird Count app and get familiar with the field guide Listen to the top 40 bird calls prior to the Bird Count at Birds in Backyards or download a bird song app such as Michael Morcombe’s to get familiar with bird calls Print out the recording sheet beforehand if you don’t like using the app you can upload your count results directly using the web page. From Monday 19 October until Sunday 25 October, complete as many bird counts as you like. Early morning or late afternoon are great times to count. There is an inbuilt timer in the bird count app, to help you keep track of 20 minutes. Take binoculars with you to help you identify birds. Don't include a bird in the count if you’re not sure which bird it is. If a bird flies over several times, and you are pretty sure it is the same bird, only count it once. Visit a bushland reserve if you are looking to do something a bit more challenging!
25.01.2022 ANZ follows Commonwealth Bank, Westpac and Australia’s three major insurers in committing to quit thermal coal by 2030. This leaves NAB as the only remaining major Australian bank willing to finance thermal coal beyond this point. But there’s more to the fossil fuel industry than just coal projects. If we’re going to meet the 1.5C global warming limit ANZ must rule out funding new oil and gas projects, and companies pursuing expansion of the fossil fuel industry. Despite the... Paris Agreement being signed five years ago, today ANZ rewarded some of its most polluting clients by allowing itself to continue funding them unmitigated for another five years. This is astounding and runs contrary to the bank’s stated support for Paris. The bank also failed to set caps on funding to oil and gas. As a result, Market Forces will move forward with a shareholder resolution calling on the bank to formulate and disclose Paris-aligned strategies and targets to reduce its fossil fuel exposure. Acknowledge ANZ’s important steps but tell the bank it must stop funding new oil and gas projects, and companies expanding the fossil fuel industry. https://marketforces.cmail19.com/t/d-l-ciddttt-gndriuit-y/

Zali Steggall’s climate bill is supported by major players across the private sector, including the Australian Business Council, Atlassian, the Climate Council, Australian Energy Council and WWF Australia. It has also been endorsed by notable individuals including Christiana Figuerres, the former UN climate chief who oversaw the Paris Agreement, economist Professor Ross Garnaut, Atlassian’s Mike Cannon-Brookes, and US scientist Dr Michael Mann.

23.01.2022 Good news! The newest wind farm in the Southern Tablelands - the 226.8MW Collector Wind Farm owned and operated by RATCH-Australia- is now fully operational and all 54 turbines are generating clean energy for the grid. The wind farm is expected to generate almost 530 Gigawatt hours annually which is the equivalent of powering 80,000 average NSW homes. This means an estimated saving of 320,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, which is the same as taking 70,000 cars off the r...oad for the lifespan of the wind farm which is expected to be another 25 years. The new wind farm has helped ALDI foods reach their 100% renewable electricity target 6 months early as almost 20% of the wind farm's output will be powering their operations. 21.01.2022 Derek White, Chairman of WinZero - Wingecarribee Net Zero Emissions commented that, even though the EV tax has been postponed in the latest EV incentives announced by the NSW Govt, it still potentially discriminates against one type of motor vehicle. A much better approach would be a registration fee based on vehicle weight as this impost is presumably going to go towards road and bridge maintenance. 18.01.2022 Some more good news for the environment in NSW at the moment. Dr Kar Mei Tang has become Australia’s first circular economist and chief. Dr Tang’s appointment last week, fell in line with the release of a new report from NSW Circular, The Circular Economy Opportunity in NSW, which laid out Australia’s roadmap forward and conveyed why transitioning from a linear to a circular economy is vital for job creation and economic recovery post-COVID-19.... NSW Circular CEO Lisa McLean said: The circular economy can generate up to 50,000 jobs in NSW over the next five years as the circular economy grows and is embraced by industry. #circulareconomy #recycle #environment #greenjobs

16.01.2022 Please send in your submissions to support the Climate Action Now Bill. From Zali Steggall It’s been a huge week in Parliament where I was able to introduce the Climate Change Bill. It was an amazing and humbling experience to present to Parliament the legislation that so many people in Warringah and around Australia want. ... Recognising the importance of a bipartisan approach to long term climate policy, I requested that the Bill be referred to Committee. I’m pleased to say it has now been referred to the House Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy and will go to a public inquiry with submissions open immediately and closing on Friday 27 November. This will be the first parliamentary inquiry into why Australia should commit and legislate Net Zero by 2050. It will also examine why the legal framework proposed in the Climate Change Bill will assist every sector in assessing the risks, adaptation and resilience planning that is needed. I encourage all businesses, organisations and individuals to make a submission to the inquiry so that we can demonstrate to Government and Parliament the need to legislate Net Zero by 2050. To read more on how to submit a submission click HERE https://www.zalisteggall.com.au/submissions_open_for_climat #ClimateActionNow #zalisteggall #cliamteaction #auspol #ZeroEmissions
