13.01.2022 Who is this kid and where did my crazy toddler go?! I’m not going to lie, meal times have been a battle with this little man the last couple of months as he shows his toddler power! He’s generally a fantastic eater but every meal has become a challenge and a game We’re slowly working out how to get around this and definitely getting Oscar involved in cooking or prepping his meals is key! Simply sitting up on his stool while I chopped green vegetables ended up in him... eating a whole plate worth of greens yesterday Other meals which are great to cook together are: * Smoothies * Omelettes * Homemade pizza on whole meal wraps See more

12.01.2022 An Australian study of students aged 8-15 found that eating vegetables daily was significantly associated with higher NAPLAN scores In the same study, excessive consumption of saturated fats and refined sugars was shown to be detrimental to children’s learning ability, specifically reducing the brains memory performance. It's the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients found in our colourful fruit and veggies, particularly lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect our br...ain and improves its function, specifically memory performance and visual processing speed (i.e. reading). Dietary Sources: * Dark Leafy Greens like kale, spinach, broccoli, green peas, asparagus and parsley * Others like pumpkin and carrots

06.01.2022 Our nutrition plays a major role in our immune defence One of the most important nutrients for this are Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids, which support the body’s immune function and natural anti-inflammatory response. Without adequate intake of our omega 3's (EPA and DHA), cells cannot function properly and overall health is compromised, making the body more vulnerable to viruses and other illness. These are "essential" because we must obtain them through our diet. So consumi...ng foods rich in omega-3's like cold water oily fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines) at least 3 x a week is recommended, or alternatively taking a good quality fish oil supplement daily. Quality certainly does matter when it comes to fish oil supplements. You can do more harm than good by taking this cheap bulk tubs (don't bother!). So always consult a health professional for advice on which fish oils to take. For vegans/vegetarians, you can obtain your omega's through Algal Oil.

01.01.2022 Are you falling for the sugar trap of protein balls?! ..... Protein or Bliss Balls are a common healthy snack now. But there are some downsides to be aware of when choosing these... ..... Upside - they’re usually way healthier than a refined chocolate bar or sweet as they’re made from wholefood ingredients and contain natural sugars ... .... Downside - Although they’re ‘natural’ sugars, they’re still very high in sugar and depending on your health goals, these may be better as an occasional treat, rather than an everyday snack ..... Check out the back of this popular supermarket protein ball pack...the ingredients are great but the sugar per 100g is 52g which = 52% sugar So if weight loss is your goal or maintaining a low sugar diet for gut health perhaps, then just keep these to a treat rather than a regular snack And homemade is always best @ Zest+Zing See more
