20.01.2022 So, 2020’s been a pretty shocking year to say the least. Bushfires, floods, COVID . . . It’s been one thing after another. But a lot of good things happened, too! ... We have a lot to be grateful for. And when we remember and focus on all we haverather than all we’ve missed out onlife feels easier to deal with. So tell me: what good things have happened to you this year? Have you achieved something you’re proud of? Tell me in the comments I’ll start!

20.01.2022 I can’t believe this was a year ago! Take note. Endometriosis is SUCH a horrific disease to live with. It is so freaking painful, and impacts every single facet of my lifeand the lives of hundreds of thousands of others.

11.01.2022 Hello, I pitched my book about the Black Summer bushfires on the NSW south coast to a publisher for the first time today. AHHHHHHHH! Cross your fingers and toes for me.... I’m so excited!

09.01.2022 Oh, I LOVE my job As a massive word nerdwho grew up editing everything and anythingit blows my mind I now get to do this professionally. I care a lot about the work I do and the services I provide: so it makes my day to hear kind words like this.... Thanks Naomi! [Image description: a recommendation for Zoe Simmons. It reads: I hired Zoe to proofread my copy, as well as copywriting projects for my clients. Zoe is not only super meticulous, but she leaves helpful suggestions for copy changes and word swaps. I was delighted with the changes she suggested. I could tell Zoe fully immersed herself in the projects and wanted me to present the best work possible. I really appreciated the extra effort she put in. This has made Zoe one of my go-to proofreaders. I can’t recommend her highly enough!] #Copywriting #Editing #freelancewriter #copywriter #copywritingservices #editingservices #Editor #proofreading #proofreaders #womeninbusiness

09.01.2022 For those of us who lived through the Black Summer bushfires, New Year’s Eve feels eerie. Because last year, there were no fireworks. No parties.... No dancing, no singing, no welcoming in the new year with laughter and joy. I spent last New Year’s Eve being woken up early in the morning to the news: get out, the fire is coming. We rushed to the evacuation centre, with fire all around us. Everything we’d ever known; burning. It’s the most surreal thing to experience. The sky turned deep, dark red. Black smoke whirled above, with ash raining from the sky. It blinded us; choked usand the smoke was so thick it made our heads hurt. With no power, no electricity and (for the most part) no reception, we didn’t know where the fire was, where it was going, or if the people we loved were alive. I vividly remember on NYE as the clock struck twelve. And it was silent, aside from the dozens and dozens of fire trucks that zoomed past all through the night. I saw people in cities celebrating on social mediawhile we feared for our lives. Like I said, surreal. Now, a year later, it’s hard to find the words. I’m happy, because we are safe. We aren’t burning. But I’m on edge, waiting for dangeras if the fire can sense our fear. And it’s not something you can understand if you haven’t lived through it. To my fellow south coasters: be gentle with yourself today. It’s a hard day; but remember to find joy in the small moments. Take a deep breath. We are alive We are here. We are safe. Happy New Year

03.01.2022 Love hearing feedback from my awesome clients! Cindy runs Prettify, an online Melbourne boutique that sells stylish and comfortable clothes for busy women. I helped write Cindy’s about page, undertook SEO keyword research (and implemented it on her about page), and even helped create a snazzy new tag line!... You can check out Cindy’s gorgeous clothes here: https://prettify.com.au/ Need words for your business? Get in touch. I can’t wait to meet you. [Image description: a review from Cindy, a client of Zoe Simmons. The review says: Love Zoe’s work! Highly recommended. Zoe has helped us rewrite our about us page and SEO keyword research for our website. Absolutely happy with how it turned out. Thank you so much!]

02.01.2022 Woo hoo! I've finally hit 15k words on my book. I know that might not seem like much, but I'm proud. I've managed to write this book while not only running my own #copywriting business, but while working four days a week in government communications, too.... The book tells the bushfire stories of the people from my hometown of Batemans Bay, myself included. The good, the bad, and how we survived. It's been such a hard book to write. The sheer amount of trauma of everyone involved makes it a mammoth task alone: but I'm determined to keep going. I don't want people to forget what we went through. I don't want people to forget that even now, we're still hurting. I don't want people to battles we had to overcome, and the people we lost. We might no longer be on your screens, but the bushfires will live with each and every one of us forever--and that's why it's so important to share these stories. 15k down, like 50k to go, I guess? #Bushfires #AustralianBushfires #NSWBushfires #NSWFires #AustralianFires #BatemansBay #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

01.01.2022 Oh, hey thereguess who is officially a published author? A big shout out to the incredible Kathy Divine: it was an honour to play even a small part in this project. My contribution explored ethical journalismand how it really isn’t hard to be ethical: you just have to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. I’m so excited to finally hold a copy in my hands! ... The Golden Age of Politics is OUT NOW! [Image description: Zoe holds The Golden Age of Politics, a small pink book she helped write. The book cover reads: Golden Age of Politics. Inspired, ethical politics for a peaceful, thriving world.]
