24.01.2022 I know that today is a tough day for Victorians with news the state will face increased restrictions as it battles to get on top of the #COVID19 outbreak. From ...tonight, Melbourne will enter Stage 4 restrictions for six weeks, with a curfew for metropolitan Melbourne in effect from 8pm to 5am, and regional Victoria will also enter Stage 3 restrictions from midnight on Wednesday. Australians all around the country are backing you in, because we all know for Australia to succeed, we need for Victoria to get through this. These measures are regrettably necessary given the high rate of community transmission in the state. Victoria now has more than 6,300 active cases and new cases show little sign of slowing down, with 671 further new cases reported today. This terrible and deadly virus writes its own rules and weve seen from other countries just how quickly it can get out of control. Just today, India has reported over 57,000 new cases. Thats why we must act now. The Federal and Victorian State Government are working together and doing everything we can to get on top of this latest outbreak. We are offering every support we can to Victoria and already have 1400 Australian Defence Force personnel on the ground in Victoria helping in the response, as well as AUSMAT specialist health teams. Now all Victorians need to do their part. That is stay home and dont got to work if youre sick, get tested if you have any symptoms at all, no matter how mild, and if you have tested positive or been in contact with a positive case, then you must isolate for 14 days. The lives of your fellow Australians depend on it. Sadly, 208 Australians have already lost their lives to this virus and my deepest sympathies and condolences go out to their families and loved ones. Thank you to the amazing health professionals and all those who are on the frontline working to support our communities in these tough times. Thank you for everything you are doing, and will do as we continue to battle this global pandemic. We are all in this together and we will get through it. Weve done this before and we will do it again.

It is time for Perth to have its third river crossing from south to north and we can achieve this by linking Melville to Nedlands, not by the bridge proposed in 1955 but by a tunnel which would be more cost effective, less intrusive and cheaper. 07.01.2022 I dont think this news will come as much of a surprise - but weve made the decision to delay the commencement of Phase 5 by at least another fortnight. Phase ...5 will see the removal of the 2 square metre capacity rule and the 50 per cent capacity limit for our major venues. But given we have already come so far as a State there is just no need to risk everything for the sake of two weeks. We are closely monitoring the situation in Victoria and New South Wales in relation to our decisions here. With that in mind, and in line with health advice, we will be delaying the introduction of Phase 5 until at least Saturday, August 15. This is a tentative date only, we will provide clarity on whether it will proceed in advance of that date. We are already able to enjoy significantly reduced restrictions and were making the most of our freedoms. A recent ANZ survey showed Perth is the most confident city in the nation and we must keep it that way. So far, it appears that our measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 from reaching Western Australia from overseas, Victoria or New South Wales appear to be working, but we have to remain cautious and vigilant. So lets keep up our efforts, be sensible, keep up good hygiene, physical distance between others where possible and stay home if unwell. Lets work together to keep our community safe.
