23.01.2022 Five women affected by #childmarriage tell their storiesand of their struggles to protect othersin this captivating photo essay from The Guardian. #EndChildMarriage #ZontaSaysNO

22.01.2022 Saturday was a very special day. Some of our members got to spend time as part of a working bee at The Sanctuary Women, Children and Pets Refuge, the domestic violence refuge who are the very worthy recipients of our Zonta Brisbane City Heart Foundation fundraising over the past year. We were blown away by the incredible work that is being done by Simone, The Sanctuary team and also the Pride of Bettermen all of whom give so much of their time. There was such warmth and ene...rgy from everyone who was there. We are SO GRATEFUL that our members and our very generous Zonta supporters have been able to donate $20,000 to pay for some of the building works that will help to deliver even more units for women, their children and pets to find safe refuge in. Thank you to everyone who donated and attended our events over the past year. You have all made this donation (and the ability to help more women in need) possible. We left with our hearts full.

18.01.2022 "Whether its subconscious or intentional is irrelevant because every time a person resorts to suggesting violence as a response to a person or event they disagree with, it reinforces, on some level, that is an appropriate response." These are the red flags of DV. Learn them, know them, keep yourselves and others safe from this behaviour.

18.01.2022 Zonta says NO to violence against women! Please help us by showing your support and adding this message to your profile pic.

16.01.2022 Last night our wonderful members (and their invited guests) celebrated finally being able to see each other in person! We were lucky enough to have the fabulous Dr Meg Hooper from @thecarouselchangeproject speak to us about resilience in these challenging times, giving us some practical strategies to help us not just cope, but flourish. Louie from Casa Di Louie Restaurant spoilt us with traditional Italian fare. We all left with belly's full, our hearts warmed and a sense ...of great togetherness as we shared in the warm blanket that is Zonta Brisbane City Heart and the work we do to empower women to reach their full potential. Thank you to all who attended and can't wait to see you at the next one!

14.01.2022 A fabulous club meeting last night. We welcomed Kelsey Powell from Zephyr Education Inc who spoke to us of the amazing work they do to support children in domestic violence shelters around Australia by providing them with back to school packs, uniforms and other educational supports. We also welcomed and inducted into membership Nicole Johnston & Alicia Freeman who pledged their service and commitment to our great club and to supporting our work to empower and change the world for women. Another beautiful reminder of what an honour and a privilege it is to be a member of Zonta.

11.01.2022 IN THE NEWS... Brisbane City Heart is over the moon to have received a Zonta International Centennial Anniversary Grant for our partnering organisation, Anglicare SQ for their "Zonta Food Bank Mobile Kitchen" Project! The grant was used to buy food for the The Mobile Kitchen and with that food they engaged with 200 homeless and vulnerable young women around all stages of nutritious food preparation and cooking a vital life-long skill to help avoid nutrition related ailments... and also give the youth opportunities to connect with the community via providing food to events, existing homeless food distributors and respite centres. Anglicare SQ also partners with TAFE Queensland as part of the project to inform and assist these young people via campus visits and presentations - to consider forms of education and training of interest that helps build their skills, qualifications, employment opportunities and their long term resilience. This will include traineeship opportunities within Anglicare SQ. #zontaInternational #ZontaInternationalCentennialAnniversaryGrant #ZontaBrisbaenCityHeart #AnglicareSQ
