25.01.2022 Pain, symptoms, massage guns & kinesio tape TBB - Episode 3 Respect Symptoms Does your practitioner ask all the right questions and build the whole picture before starting treatment? In our offices we ask a lot of questions and take the time to get it right. This episode explains why. On episode 3 of Two Bald Bastards, Mike and Chris dive into the next of the principles, respecting symptoms. When load exceeds capacity, pathology is the result. When pathology is present, ...you get symptoms. Symptoms are data-points and all of it matters. All of it. Respecting these symptoms is a big deal if you want to get to the cause of the problem and get a treatment that is safe, effective and long-lasting. This show is what happens when two bald men on opposite sides of the globe, catch up via the internet to talk about a shared passion for helping people get out of pain, by focusing on soft tissue treatment. 25.01.2022 In most cases of chronic low back pain, MRI is the diagnostic image of choice. Dr Chris recently had an MRI for his own injury to get an update on how things have changed over the 3 years since undergoing surgery. In this episode Dr Chris and Dr Mike review the findings and discuss the road ahead to be pain-free at 100 years of age! Wildcard Spine and Sport

24.01.2022 The posterior hip capsule is ligamentous tissue surrounding the back portion the hip joint. When this is tight and short, it is one of the tissues that can cause pain and pinching at the front of the hip. This one is DEEP - we have to sink through the overlaying glutes to get to the capsule, but with proper treatment this can be a game-changer for hip mobility. If you are someone that lifts their knee towards the chest (hip flexion) - think of a squat - and you get pain or pinching at the front of the hip, this is a tissue that should be assessed. This is one of the fundamentals of a low back functional assessment. Need some help but not sure where to start? Send through a message and get the ball rolling.

24.01.2022 Low back health check - have you got 90 degrees with a straight leg raise? Sciatic nerve mobility is a big part of having a healthy low back. Sometimes the nerve gets stuck and cant move properly making the hamstrings stop short - we can help find it and fix it

24.01.2022 Episode 24: Why is low back pain such a big problem? Why does it often happen more than once? In many cases there are some fundamental soft tissue components of low back pain that are commonly left untreated. On this episode we explain our approach to assessment, treatment and management of chronic low back pain and what it can mean for you if these issues are not addressed. The ApexST office will be open for a few days between now and the end of December (the online booking system is up to date) and then returning to a normal schedule in the second week of January. 2021 is going to be an exciting year - there will be some new stuff coming and I can't wait to start sharing the updates in the new year. Thank you to ev...eryone that has supported this business and trusted this approach to resolving pain and movement restriction - it's a responsibility that is taken seriously. This morning we sat down to record the last episode of the year which is a recap of 2020 and a bit of a look forward into 2021. As always, thanks for your support and I'm looking forward to working with you soon. Chris. https://youtu.be/fE_L844FIhU

22.01.2022 Two Bald Bastards - Episode 2: Respect Pathology. Mike and Chris follow up with the next in the series of first principles, explaining that when load exceeds capacity, the result is pathology. This episode explains why pathology has to be respected in conservative care and discusses the most common musculoskeletal pathology treated by soft tissue specialists; fibrous adhesion AKA scar tissue. This episode also covers some important scientific research, confirming that bald... men are more attractive, confident and just generally loaded with sex appeal. 20.01.2022 FACE MASKS Currently, these are not 100% mandatory but the situation can shift quickly and its looking a bit dicey in NSW. There are now single use disposable masks in our office and if youre coming in for treatment soon, Id encourage you to use one while we endevour to keep the community safe. The #ApexST office is still operating and hopefully we will be able to keep it that way for a while longer. If you are feeling at all unwell or have any doubts regarding exposure or risk, please cancel your appointment and we can pick it up another time. Thank you for your help and support - stay safe everyone.

20.01.2022 Could there really be one incredible exercise that you can do at home, right now, to get you out of pain? Tune in to episode 15 to find out! https://youtu.be/pa47d428YRc

20.01.2022 The office will be open again this week and taking a limited number of bookings. There will be some necessary changes that come with this. The most significant change is that we are going to focus on serving those with pain and movement restriction related to either the Low Back, Neck or Shoulder regions. These are the most commonly beat up areas due to the recent changes of working from home and generally being out of normal routines. While massage sessions are an important... tool in managing soft tissue (and stress), we wont be offering the regular 60 min remedial massage bookings right now. The goal at this time is to focus on the more specific issues that people need help with and we can do this in much shorter treatment sessions, which is better for everyone. There is less time on the table and less contact time overall. Traffic in and out of the office will be limited and there will be ongoing cleaning and sanitising between each booking. If you have symptoms of fever, cough or shortness of breath, please do not come to your appointment. As a nation we have done a great job to get to this point where some services can begin to resume, however the work is not over and we need to remain vigilant. This situation could change again at anytime, but for now, Apex Soft Tissue cannot wait to work with you again

19.01.2022 When the sciatic nerve is stuck and adhered to the glutes, you get problems Lower back pain, butt pain, leg pain Tingling, numbness Tight, inflexible hamstrings ... These symptoms have other causes too, but entrapment of the sciatic nerve is a BIG ONE and it's often left undiagnosed and untreated. Effective treatment requires laser-focus to apply the precise amount of tension at the site where the nerve is stuck. Massage, foam rollers, lacrosse balls, dry needling, adjustments, exercises - none of these will break down the adhesion and give you sustainable relief. We are the only office on Sydney's North Shore to be trained and certified in Manual Adhesion Release of the sciatic nerve. 14.01.2022 Episode 23: Almost 3 years ago, I had surgery on my low back after an injury got so bad that getting cut open was absolutely necessary to get the best result possible. I've had plenty of time to reflect on the lessons learned and how I could use this experience to help others avoid similar problems. About a year ago I started telling the story, but never actually finished it. In this video I sit down with my bald-brother Wildcard Spine and Sport to recall the whole story a...nd what I learned. I hope it hits the right person in the right place sometime and forces a re-think of how long to live with a problem before really pushing to get answers. Thanks for watching. 09.01.2022 Adductor Magnus is a HUGE muscle! As the name suggests it is an adductor of the hip, but its also an extender, which means it acts as an extra hamstring. The cross-sectional size of adductor magnus is surprising - its a big part of the thigh! Problems with this muscle can lead to pain with hip flexion, specifically at the front of the hip. Pinching at the front of the hip when you squat and cant figure it out? Its time to check out the adductor magnus! Adductor magnus problems are fairly common, but theyre not commonly treated. 01.01.2022 We like it when a spine can FLEX! When its flat, or extended in full flexion (like the last picture), thats not a healthy spine. When the segments cant flex properly, there is going to be poor movement whenever you bend forward, which means something is getting overloaded. This is a common finding in low back pain cases. Our assessment and treatment identifies which segments are not moving well and addresses the soft tissues that restrict it. @ Apex Soft Tissue

01.01.2022 TENSION COMPRESSION A common factor we often see in low back pain cases is that the lumbar erector muscles are not healthy. These are the big chunks of tissue that sit either side of the lower spine and can be a common target for compressive treatments; thumbs, forearms, elbows, lacrosse balls, rollers etc When the erectors are loaded up with fibrous adhesion they cant do their job properly; they cant do the work of normal, healthy muscles. Fixing this requires TE...NSION, not compression. This table isolates movement of the lower back, so that with the right depth and pressure, in the right place - we can create the tension and remove the adhesion. Healthy soft tissue Compressive treatment like a deep tissue massage might feel good for a short time - but it wont fix the problem. Episode 6 of TBB with Dr Mike drops soon, where we continue the first principles series and wade into the weeds of treatment. Subscribe on YouTube and Spotify!
