24.01.2022 Our hearts are broken for our sister in Alice. Her powerful voice on domestic violence was cut short, too early, by the same violence she fought to end. #domesticviolence

24.01.2022 Our number one fundraiser Golden Years - '80s/'90s-ish Rock/Indie/Pop Club Night + Charity Fundraiser is selling these fabulous masks with $5 from each mask donated to us and @thestreetbuffet. So far, they've raised over $1500 for us! Buy them here: ebay.com.au/itm/383660922551

21.01.2022 This is going to be huge-everyone of these 'All-Stars' are inspirational and will make a big difference to our shelter network.

20.01.2022 In the wake of the decision to abolish the Family Court of Australia, 3 things everyone agrees upon are that we need resources, specialisation, and better integration with state domestic violence courts if we are going to keep children & families safe. #SafetyFirstInFamilyLaw

20.01.2022 This is why we must criminalise coercive control and the murders of Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey sparks change. https://www.smh.com.au//intimate-terrorism-why-the-murders

20.01.2022 Can you spare $2 a month? We are reaching out to 1000 local families and asking them for only $2 each week. In order to support our shelter, the only one of its kind. We provide short term accommodation, counselling and other support services for women and children leaving domestic violence and homelessness in South-East Sydney. This is less than the cost of a cup of coffee and will play a vital role in allowing us to continue our operations. We’ve recently seen both a surg...e in domestic violence and diminished access to safe spaces for women and children escaping perpetrators. The number of domestic and family violence victims seeking urgent assistance has increased by 10 per cent since COVID-19 lockdown began in March. Donate today: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr

20.01.2022 You can't see us right now but we are smiling! Thank you to the generosity of Eastside Realty, Randwick for your donation. This gives us so much JOY when our local community comes together to donate funds. http://www.eastsiderealty.com.au #givewhereyoulive #community #thankyou #socialgood #stopdv #domesticviolence

20.01.2022 Vale Susan Ryan. We are saddened today of losing a pioneering hero. Susan Ryan’s 1984 legislation made sexual harassment unlawful the first jurisdiction in the world to do so. These reforms improved the wellbeing and dignity of Australian women and families. https://womensagenda.com.au//vale-susan-ryan-pioneer-labo/

13.01.2022 Please read the latest news from Women's Community Shelters network.

13.01.2022 School holiday baking activities were so much fun and yummy Thanks to our beautiful community for donating all the ingredients An extra big shout out to the incredibly generous Rebecca Tabakoff of Temple Executive Search for her generosity!

13.01.2022 This Christmas leave no woman and child in need. And we are always in need of Coles and Woolworths gift cards. Give the gift that will make a difference to our shelter and the women and children we help. If you are thinking about a meaningful present for your family or friends in lieu of gifts a fantastic idea would be donating one of these gift cards to our shelter. Please buy a gift card and drop off to Clovelly Community Bank Branch, Matt Thistlethwaite MP, or Marjorie O’Neill - Member for Coogee.

12.01.2022 COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING We are so thankful to Pagewood Botany FC President, Glenn Redding who is embarking on a mammoth bike ride to raise funds to help us support our women & children escaping DV. Please support him via the go fund me page #communitylove

12.01.2022 A big shout out and thank you to Recruitment Edge who handed over a $15,300 cheque to our shelter before Christmas. This generous donation was from businesses and individuals who donated funds to the Recruitment Edge International Women’s Day Breakfast which was cancelled earlier last year. Thank you for all your hard work last year in organising this Tania and team! Clr Christina Curry #IWD2020 #thankyou #domesticviolence #stopdv

11.01.2022 Hannah Clarke was murdered a year ago. Criminalising coercive control is only one part of the response that's needed to tackle domestic violence. Coercive violence-includes behaviours such as controlling what someone wears, limiting access to money, tracking someone’s location, controlling who they see and persistent texting, and it can lead to physical violence. Legislation against coercive control exists in many other parts of the world. Sign this petition: https://www.nowtolove.com.au//criminalise-coercive-control

11.01.2022 Our first board meeting came together last week to discuss our big year ahead! 2021 is going to be big and we are PUMPED. Everything we do is with a focus on supporting women and their children escaping domestic violence, women's homelessness and in 2021 we will continue to develop educational programs to stop domestic violence. We are part of Women's Community Shelters and work with the local community to support women escaping domestic violence. If you as a local business would like to partner with us to support our educational programs or fundraise for us please email [email protected] #stopdomesticviolence #domesticviolence #dv #southeastsydneywomen #strategy #givewhereyoulive

10.01.2022 The Women's Community Shelters page is sadly involved in the Facebook news ban and you will not be able to receive news from this page. In light of Facebook taking down news media sites along with our Women's Community Shelter site, we would like to be prepared for Facebook not being our main communication tool with you our community. Please sign up to our newsletters so that we have an alternative way to connect with you rather than relying on Facebook. We would not like... to wake up tomorrow and find our page has been taken down. Just head to https://baysidewomensshelter.org and there's a link to receive our newsletter.

10.01.2022 Michaela Coel explores stealthing and consent in her acclaimed series I May Destroy You. No criminal law in Australia explicitly identifies stealthing as a sexual offence. Stealthing is the non-consensual removal of a condom during sex. This exposes victims to physical risks of pregnancy and STIs, and is a violation of dignity and autonomy.

10.01.2022 'Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give' and the kindness and generosity of Astrid and Ellectra Graham has made us super proud. Both spent the last few months of 2020 raising money and putting together Christmas children care packs. These are cherished by our staff as it means when we have a new family arrive the staff can grab a bag, check the tag for the gender and age, and place it in their room on arrival. Absolutely priceless!!! Thank you. x

08.01.2022 Christmas Wish List Thank you to the businesses and community who have already donated items from our Christmas wish list. The list is getting smaller and smaller which we are loving! Please drop any presents you would like to donate to the donation boxes located at Clovelly Community Bank Branch, Matt Thistlethwaite MP, or Marjorie O’Neill - Member for Coogee... No wrapping please

07.01.2022 Always was, Always will be.

05.01.2022 We would like to take a moment to thank EISS Super for providing us with rent for the last six months of this year. It's been a challenging year for many community groups like us due to the pandemic. Numbers in DV have doubled and homelessness is on the rise. When community groups receive a lift like this it's a brilliant feeling. We are phenomenally proud of partnering with EISS Super who goes above and beyond in making a difference to those who need a bit of extra support in these hard times. #community #PartnershipsMatter #domestcviolence #StopDV
