25.01.2022 The hopes for our garden probably match the sense behind this:

23.01.2022 Recent rain has helped with a burst of new growth and colour. Our bore is now working again as well.

23.01.2022 New seedlings planted today include extra tomatoes, eggplant, various lettuce varieties, radish and extra beetroot. Produce ready to pick include snow peas, rocket and corn wont be too far off. As always, there is also a variety of herbs such as parsley, mint, sage, rosemary and chives. If youre talking a walk nearby, why not pop in and see whats on offer!

23.01.2022 Thanks to Bruce from Council who provided some soil and other stuff to get the beds closer to planting. Good work from Caloundra West Lions Branch Club today with help from Andrew And Connor

22.01.2022 Nasturtiums are a culinary and medicinal flower/ herb that is high in vitamin C and have potent anti-viral and antibiotic properties. They also are highly bene...ficial for nervous depression, constipation, indigestion, sore throats, sinus infections, and eye and skin health. Nasturtium also works as an expectorant and can help break up congestion in the respiratory passages during colds and flu. Nasturtium is high in sulfur and is especially good at helping to increase energy and prevent brain fog. Nasturtium leaves have a peppery taste similar to that of Rocket. They can be juiced, chopped and added to salads, or steamed like spinach. The vibrant flowers make a great addition to salads, wraps, smoothies, and soups. Nasturtium leaves and flowers also make a tasty medicinal tea. Fresh or dried leaves can be added to hot water, allowed to steep for at least 20 minutes, sweeten with raw honey if desired. Crushed leaves and flowers can also work as a natural applied antibiotic for cuts, scrapes, blisters, or wounds. Simply break the flowers and leaves in a little bit of coconut or olive oil and place on the skin. If you wrap lightly with cotton to secure and change twice a day for best results. Nasturtiums are easy to grow straight from seed indoors or out and are a simple, but effective way to include this healing flower and herb into your diet. Cabbage white butterflies like to breed on nasturtiums, making the plant as useful in the garden as they are attractive. Plant them in the vegetable patch near your brassica plot, where they should entice the butterflies to lay their eggs away from the vegetables. See more

22.01.2022 After the Lions of Caloundra West had a great little clean-up a couple of weeks ago, we have started planting some veggies - spinach, zucchini, beans, snow peas, capsicums, chillies, eggplant, corn, lettuce, onions, garlic and Brussels sprouts. Special thanks to Norah from Bunnings Caloundra for the seedlings and some gardening tools. Dont forget, many hands make light work, so if you see someone pottering around, pop over and say hello and introduce yourself. Its great to see some of the local kids coming in and wanting to help with some watering.

20.01.2022 Next time you are out for a walk, why not drop in and see what's growing at the moment. Special mention to Norah at Bunnings Caloundra for donating more seedlings and some equipment. While we encourage everyone to visit, if you would like some veggies or herbs, please make sure that they have got to the ready-to-harvest stage. There's been some damage to parts of the garden recently, so keep your eyes on our community's resource and let's keep it safe and growing.

20.01.2022 The garden is starting to look more loved again - but still a long way to go.

20.01.2022 End of 2019, looking forward to seeing the new year of food producing here at the garden. Happy New Year!!

18.01.2022 As a veteran and a member of the Lions family of Lions Clubs International in District 201Q3 I would like to offer a simple message in support of all veterans, ...past and present and their families on this important day in our calendar. Members of the Lions family and our fellow Australians who have served, or are still serving in our Defence Forces, understand the simple two-word motto adopted by Lions Clubs International in 1954 WE SERVE. This year, as the country struggles with the effects of COVID-19 and veterans and their families and the community are unable to participate in Anzac Day services and marches. Its important to pause and acknowledge the service of those from the past and the present who have joined our Defence Forces. We especially honour the service of those who did not return or those who have gone onto higher service since they returned. We also acknowledge the work and commitment from those currently serving and commit to help then and their families and the families of those who have gone before us where we can. Where there is a need there WILL be a LION. I encourage all Lions to pause this ANZAC Day for at least a minute at 6 AM local time, to remember the past and ongoing sacrifice. AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING - WE WILL REMEMBER THEM LEST WE FORGET Past District Governor Norm Jensen https://www.facebook.com/RSLQueensland/videos/3157753057581779/ #LightuptheDawn #Lestweforget
