23.01.2022 Suffering from tight and sore muscles? Then dry needling may benefit you! Have you ever complained of a ‘knot’ in your muscle, which causes pain and restriction in movement? This ‘knot’ is called a myofascial trigger point. With dry needling treatment, a thin needle is inserted into the trigger point, which releases tension and inflammation markers in the muscle. It promotes an increase in circulation (blood flow) to the area, facilitating healing, as well as improving ran...ge of movement and reducing muscle tightness and pain. Here at Forge, all our Physiotherapists are trained to use dry needling which can improve your rehabilitation and recovery. Call our clinic to book your appointment. #physiotherapist #physiotherapybrisbane #physiotherapywestend #dryneedling #dryneedlingwestend See more

22.01.2022 Alcohol Balance You’re not alone if you feel like you’ve been drinking more than you should have lately! 2020 found the average Australian drinking a lot more than previous years. Thanks COVID for less social outings, less events and less opportunities for activities other than drinking! So what can we do to encourage healthy habits and create more BALANCE? ... MINDFUL drinking. Hah! You might laugh, but here’s some things to think about to employ some healthier and more mindful habits. Building a better relationship with alcohol doesn’t mean you have to completely cut it out. There are things you can monitor and reflect on to encourage better habits and reduce overall intake. Here are some consistent, guided tools to create that change in your routine: 1. Reduce the volume of your drink at each sitting 2. Track your drinks 3. Explore alternatives, low carb beer, soda water to replace tonic/ and sugary beverages 4. Regular reflection and habit reinforcement. Trial no mid-week drinking, replace with sparkling or soda water with citrus?! For every drink, drink a glass of water, if you stay hydrated it will be easier to adhere to your goals the following day. From Krissy Thank you very much to @sw1winesandales for sponsoring one of our weekly challenges with this generous prize.

21.01.2022 Have a look to the bodily system changes that take place during pregnancy Pregnancy is a wonderful journey, but can leave some women with feelings of anxiety, depression and body dissatisfaction. Research has shown that exercise in general can have significant positive impacts upon a person’s mental health. ... Pregnancy causes a cascade of cardiovascular changes right from the very beginning (week 5-7). These are designed to support and prepare the mother’s body for labour and delivery, and to ensure adequate exchange of nutrients and respiratory gases to the child. The mother’s respiratory system adapts to accommodate the growing baby. This means she has to alter her breathing mechanics to facilitate gas and O2 exchange to the baby, and to safeguard against elevated maternal CO2 levels. Expectant mothers can experience a variety of musculoskeletal injuries or pains due to the changes in weight, centre of gravity and loading mechanics that come with pregnancy. These generally occur in the pelvic region, lower back and shoulders, and can be alleviated and treated with regular structured exercise. / Pregnancy is a natural diabetogenic state - this increased amount of circling blood glucose provides an energy source for the developing baby. The mother’s insulin response is greatly manipulated by pregnancy hormones, which can lead to excessive gestational weight gain and maternal insulin resistance. Training these systems through exercise will result in better long term health outcomes for both mother and baby! #pregnancywestend #pregnancy #pregnancybrisbane #pregnancyhealth #pregnancymassage #pregnancyexercise #pregnancypilates #pregnancyphysiotherapy #pregnancychanges See more

13.01.2022 PRE-RUNNING Stretches & Activation Exercises Pre-run prep is a great way to get your muscles, tendons and joints ready to absorb the load of running. Start with some stretches, triggering and mobility exercises then activate through the glutes, quadriceps, hamstring, and calves. You can start with some simple, quick and easy exercises as shown in this video, or add more of a specific pre-run preparation if you’re struggling with those nasty running niggles. You will find those first few steps are less of a struggle and you warm up quicker into your run

08.01.2022 Believe it or not, there is some controversy around the famous R.I.C.E. principle, especially in regards to the 'Rest' and 'Ice' when it comes to ankle sprains. Some more recent research has suggested that lateral ankle sprains, especially low grade, do better when mobilised early in most cases, while ‘Ice’ has been demonised by some as it does not stop inflammation as previously thought, and even if it did, we do not want this! But ‘Ice’ can still have a place within the management of ankle injuries. Watch this video from our Physiotherapist Chris Hitchins on one way research has shown that ‘Ice’ can be used to speed up recovery with early mobilisation. #physiotherapy #physiotherapywestend #physiotherapybrisbane #anklesprain #inflammation #ankle #injuryrehab

01.01.2022 A question we sometimes get is what’s the difference between an Exercise Physiologist and a Personal trainer? Exercise Physiologists are Allied Health Professionals. That is to say we have completed a 4 year University Degree and are qualified to work with all conditions ranging from diabetes, cancer, sports injuries and chronic pain. We have access to private health funds and Medicare to assist in billing of the appointments but by no means is this needed! A typical ...Exercise Physiologist initial appointment will involve an extensive assessment followed by planning to map out the exercises that will help achieve your goals, whatever they may be. In your following consultations here at Forge we believe in a practical approach and will take you through any and all exercises prescribed for classes, your own gym or even at home. This is to ensure the exercises are performed optimally and in the best interest of your goals. Keen to see one of our EPs?
