24.01.2022 Turmeric is a powerhouse whole food that contains a compound called curcumin which is essentially its active ingredient. We love turmeric here at FurFresh and include is in our raw dog food as well as our Complete Meal Balancer whole food booster. Curcumin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, wound healing and anticancer activities. So if you’re keen to give your dog turmeric, there are a few things to know.... The curcumin in turmeric is hard for your dog to absorb if it’s given by itself. So it’s important to combine turmeric with a healthy oil like coconut oil. This can increase the absorption significantly and also enables you to incorporate into dry food. You can also add a small pinch of black pepper or lecithin to activate the paste, further enhancing the absorption. Add the Turmeric Golden Paste directly to your dog’s meals by mixing it with some water, bone broth or kefir (fermented goats milk). Most dogs don’t mind the taste at all! Here’s how much turmeric golden paste to give your dog: -Small dogs should start with about 1/4 teaspoon per day -Medium dogs can start with 1/2 teaspoon per day -Large dogs can start with 3/4 teaspoon per day -Giant dogs can start with 1 teaspoon per day This is a rough starting point, but you can increase the amount from there, up to about a Tbsp for larger dogs.
