24.01.2022 The arrival of the Europeans came with it agricultural colonisation of this continent- this introduced new predators, caused (and continues) mass extinction of species and hooved animals, who hardened the soil and changed the extent to which rain is absorbed or runs off the surface of the land. The beef industry was - and still is, in some states - directly responsible for a very high percentage of deforestation. Farming doesnt sustain the land, it ruins it. It is an extract...ive industry that has gobbled up thousands of years of sustenance in a few generations of sustained plunder. VicForests had insufficient regard to high quality greater glider habitat, the presence of greater gliders in areas it planned to log, and to the additional pressures greater gliders were facing due to bushfires.
