25.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of much loved Valleys premiership great Paul Richards. Paul is seated on the right of captain-coach Ross Strudwick in both these photos, the first from1980 and the second, Valleys' 1979 team photo, which commemorates the resounding 26-0 over Souths in the BRL grand final. During our work on Wally Lewis's soon-to-be-released autobiography, "Wally Lewis: My Life", the King often spoke fondly of Paul and asked me to sa...y the following about his popular teammate - "Paul's on-field performances might have been impressive, but it was his determination to ensure all his teammates were happy that stays with me. I never heard him complain once although occasionally he felt he'd let his teammates down. Paul Richards never ever let his teammates down. 12.01.2022 As work progresses on our fantastic new book "WALLY LEWIS: My Life", it was only last week that Wally and I were discussing the deep affection and respect he held for one of his favorite Diehard teammates, Ian "Elke" Sommer. And then earlier this week comes news, Ian has suddenly and tragically passed away at the age of 68, I believe. It was only a couple of weeks ago that Ian and I had a chat in the Cannon Hill shopping centre car park, and now this. Our thoughts are with hi...s family who like all of us, just loved him. Every time you met Ian he made you feel like a million dollars, a tough as teak old school footballer from Camp Hill, who had a magic touch, a disarming kindness. I loved writing about Ian in my book "OUR GAME" and in subsequent years, sharing his company down at Emerson Park, with his mates from the late 70s. RIP Elke.
