25.01.2022 Did you know that in our own state of WA there are over 5000 children and young people in care? That at least one point in their lives home was not a safe place. Keeping children safe is everybodys business because children wont always understand or be able to speak out. Here at TSS our team walks alongside the most resilient, brave and strong young people who were once not safe whilst they transition to a life of independence. Remember that saying someth...ing could save a life. #nationalchildprotectionweek2020 See more

24.01.2022 Hello Monday, let's do this

24.01.2022 The WA Government is providing every household with a Synergy or Horizon account a $600 credit which will automatically go into your accounts in November/December.

24.01.2022 This year the theme for Reconciliation Week was ‘more than a word, reconciliation takes action’. So that’s what we decided to do and we did this through actively seeking out learning opportunities. A group of TSS clients and staff along with our friend from CREATE attended a session at the State Library called ‘Truth Telling & Hidden Histories’, we learnt of the records that are kept within documenting the history and lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and h...ow people with a connection can learn more about their family history, we heard stories of tragedy as well as love. We then headed out to lunch together to debrief about what we had learnt and discuss our plans for Celebration Dinner. We followed this up with a visit to the new WA Museum Boola Bardip, where we spent the majority of our time in the Aboriginal history section and ended the day making red, black and yellow bracelets. The following week the team then joined the WA Walk for Reconciliation from Boola Bardip to Yagan Square, we partook in the smoking ceremony, watched in awe of the traditional dancing displays and listened to the stories along the way.

17.01.2022 Kaya! We are now two days in to NAIDOC Week! Always Was, Always Will Be is the theme this year for NAIDOC Week and recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.... COVID has had a significant impact this year on being able to celebrate the way we normally would but whilst we aren't able to host large-scale events we can all still utilise this time to learn more about the history of the land in which we call home, the Whadjuk Region of the Nygoonar Nation. Here are a few of our favourite suggestions to start with: 1. Watch the documentary In My Blood It Runs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmahNqD3Dvw 2. Visit the Stories of Country exhibition in West Perth to see artwork from Indigenous artists https://www.naidoc.org.au//naidoc-week-eve/stories-country 3. Listen to and learn about the Oral Histories of First Nations people in Western Australia https://slwa.wa.gov.au/explore-d/wa-heritage/oral-histories 4. Check out the mind-opening film 'The Songkeepers' at the Indigenous Film & Language Festival in either Booragoon or Merriwa by searching 'Our Country Speaks' on Facebook https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhEh3kmBSxI Through our commitment to reconciliation, The Salvation Army acknowledges the First Nations peoples of Australia as the traditional custodians of this land. We further acknowledge and pay our respects to past and present Elders, giving thanks for their wisdom that has sustained their people since the beginning of time, and we pledge to support emerging and future generations.
