18.01.2022 DO YOU HAVE HAPPY FEET? Vitality Club Podiatrist Josh shares his top foot care tips. 1) Inspect your feet daily: A quick daily check of your feet to make sure there is nothing abnormal is all you need to do. This will help reduce the risk of complications and will keep your feet happy and healthy. If you have bad eyesight or are not as flexible, ask someone to check your feet or use a mirror low to the ground to inspect the soles of your feet.... 2) Cut toenails straight: Help prevent ingrown nails, by trimming your toenails straight across instead of rounding the edges. 3) Seek advice: Once you have inspected your feet and have found something abnormal such as a callus or a corn, do not try to deal with the issue yourself. Seek professional advice from a podiatrist who can help you get back to your best. 4) Choose correct footwear: Some shoes can increase your risk of falls by making you slip or trip. When buying a shoe look for one with a firm base, with grip and ankle support. If you or a loved one would like to see a Podiatrist to help keep your feet happy don't hesitate to get in touch. #PODIATRY #MOBILEALLIEDHEALTH #HAPPYFEET #AGEDCARE

17.01.2022 ARE YOU USING YOUR CDMP? You may have heard of a Chronic Disease Management plan or CDMP from your GP. If eligible, a CDMP referral allows you to receive 5 Allied Health sessions per calendar year, at a subsidized rate through Medicare to help you to best manage chronic disease. Conditions covered by the CDMP include Diabetes, Asthma, Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer, Musculoskeletal Conditions, Stroke and more.... Getting a CDMP is easy, simply ask your GP if you qualify. They can then send it to Vitality Club and we can assist you from there. Remember, these subsidized sessions expire and then renew at the end of each calendar year so with 2021 still young it’s a timely reminder to make sure you’re utilizing the services available to you. #access #alliedhealth #mobilealliedhealth #CDMP #generalpractice

17.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE!! What is something commonly shared, used everyday, but never really thought about? Language! The power of language is vastly underrated and can make a massive difference in all of our interactions. Using positive phrases instead of neutral or negative terms can really reframe our mindsets and has been shown to have a significant influence on recovery from injury.... This is particularly important in those with lower confidence levels, such as the older population. Choosing more positive, uplifting words when discussing health can make a big impact on our perceptions of health and how other people feel about themselves. At Vitality Club we have been trying to focus on changing the language we use with clients and be more positive in our tone and overall communications. The table below has some examples of alternative phrases that help to avoid some of the natural negative language that is often in place around healthcare. Your challenge is this: for one day this week, pay attention to the specific language you use and think of ways you can change it to be more positive - either in the words themselves, or the tone you are using. Let us know how you go! #powerofpositivity #language #awareness #recovery #agedcare #mobilealliedhealth #impact

15.01.2022 BREAKING BARRIERS WITH TELEHEALTH Here’s our Exercise Physiologist Shannon, smashing out an 'at home' session with her client via telehealth - The launch of telehealth during Covid started as a means of staying connected to high risk clients who needed to continue supervised sessions. That’s now evolved and meant that some of my clients have actually maintained a more consistent routine and has facilitated greater flexibility of session timing. I love that we have been able to solve a problem that would otherwise have left a portion of our community without access to services and clients love it! #TELEHEALTH #FINDINGAWAY #HOMEEXERCISE #EXERCISEPHYSIOLOGY #AGEDCARE #MOBILEALLIEDHEALTH #IMPACT

09.01.2022 HUMANS OF VITALITY CLUB: A deeper look into the lives and experiences of our amazing clients. MARGARET’S STORY: Growing up, we were quite wealthy, having our own personal French pastry chef and ah mahs. Shanghai in the late 1920’s was one of the most prosperous and cosmopolitan cities of East Asia and was known as the Paris of the Orient, a mecca for the rich and famous of the time. The boom ended in 1937 when Japan invaded. My father was interned at the Pootung Camp as ...he refused to renounce his Australian citizenship. I remember as a small child waving to him through the fence at the camp. My father Luther was a journalist with the North China Daily News and fell in love with my mother Alice, a kindergarten teacher. While torn apart, they made the tough choice to send my sister Jessie and I, at 15 and 16, to Sydney. We travelled unaccompanied and were frightened and homesick. As my father was a Chinese Australian, Prime Minister Harold Holt signed our immigration papers. I can remember steaming through Sydney Heads and seeing Sydney Harbour and the City for the first time. It was the beginning of a new life in a new country. I attended Meriden as the first Chinese ethnic. School served as a welcome refuge from where we had fled from. Throughout my life I’ve had an array of first experiences; falling in love with my husband Peter and had a happy marriage lasting for 54 years despite facing a lot of discrimination and backlash. I was the first Chinese Australian to be painted in the Archibald prize in 1959. I met the queen in 1982 and received a letter from Prince Philip, I visited Cuba soon after the revolution. I hope my experiences pave the way for opportunities for the next generations and leave a legacy for my grandchildren too. I leave this to you all: Embrace life with open arms and a warm and happy heart. Face what comes head on, do your best and always look on the bright side. #inspirational #lifestory #wisdom

02.01.2022 VITALITY CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY 2020 Last week the VC team celebrated making it through a pretty crazy year. We are so grateful to have been able to get together - the first time we have all been together since March - and reflect on all we have achieved as a team this year. Despite the challenges and disruptions, we are very proud to have been able to continue to deliver services to our clients and adapt to the changing landscape. We are excited to see what 2021 brings - and fortunately for us, our service is much better than our art skills!
