25.01.2022 Don’t confuse price with value. I used to spend hundreds (which over the years became thousands) on gym memberships I never used. Until one day I decided enough was enough and started to work with a personal trainer. ... While on the surface it may seem to cost more, that wasn’t the case when I factor in the health benefits I gained (did I mention I put on 25kg in each pregnancy? Thanks Balkan genes!) Many people make the same mistake when it comes to looking for home or income protection insurance. While cost is one factor, what’s of greater importance here is that you get value from it. In other words, what is their customer service and claim support like. How quickly and easily will they pay your claim? Same goes for your home loan. Interest rates are one factor, but so is their internet banking, customer support and ability to meet your settlement in time. Super funds are yet another example where cost isn’t the only factor. How transparent are they - do you know exactly how your money is invested and being managed? Can you pick your own insurance? How easily can you deal with them and get information you need? What other support do they offer? The list goes on, but I think I’ve made my point. When it comes to products you’ll use for a while (be they financial or otherwise), always prioritise value and quality over price. You’ll gain more in the long run.

24.01.2022 This is what the path to financial freedom looks like - free for the taking! But most people don’t strive for it for one simple reason: They don’t *really* know what financial freedom means to them.... They don’t have a number. They don’t have a clear goal. And what’s more, they don’t have a light a fire under you motivating reason to go for it. So they play small. So if this is you, I have a simple exercise for you to do. Write down ALL the things that make you feel financially anxious. Now write down how you would feel if you didn’t have to worry about these things. What would your life look like? Would you have more energy? Would you have fewer arguments? How would you spend your spare time? How would you spend your work time? Would you still want to work? Would you be doing something else entirely? Where would you live? Now, next to each item filling you with worry, write down how much money it would take to make that anxious feeling go away. Then break these things down in order of priority - what’s your biggest worry to your smallest In other words, how much money would you need in order to feel safe - in order to believe that no matter what life throws at you, you will be ok. It’s time to stop living with a pit in your stomach, and time to start LIVING! Tell me the first number you’re focusing on, and let’s do this! #financialgoals #money #freedom #claritycounts #withinreach #imgoingforit #youvegotthis #yourenotalone #anythingispossible

18.01.2022 It's not something anyone likes to discuss, but it can make a world of difference to your family members if the unexpected happens. Don’t put the added burden on your loved ones on guessing what you would want. Funnily enough, as much as we dread having these conversations we also sleep SO much better once they are done, knowing the people we love will be taken care of. So if you haven’t had the talk yet, I encourage you to make a point of doing it tonight. No time like the present, as they say!

15.01.2022 Money mindset hack So here’s the thing. Most people, regardless of their incomes, struggle to create wealth (consistently or at all) because somewhere along the way we bought into negative self talk. Without even realising it, deep down we tell ourselves things like:... I’m not good enough I could never do that Knowing my luck no matter how hard I try something always goes wrong Success is for other people Don’t believe me you tell yourself this? Here’s a question. How do you respond when someone gives you a compliment? Most people will feel uncomfortable and will brush it off. Instead of thank you we say: Oh, this old thing? I bought it second hand Nah, I just got lucky Me? OMG YOU are the one who is amazing! Etc. instead of thank you our instinct is to dismiss it. Or we say thank you but tell ourselves yeah but they were just saying that to be nice. OR What about accepting an offer of help? For many, again we feel uncomfortable. We don’t want to be a burden. Inconvenience others. Or again we tell ourselves they weren’t really offering, it’s just something people say to be nice. As long as deep down you feel not good enough, unworthy or undeserving. As long as you criticise yourself to no end when you make a mistake yet any time you get something right you put it down to being lucky. You will struggle to achieve financial freedom. Why? Because when WE don’t believe we are enough, we: won’t charge what we are worth are afraid to go for that promotion won’t ask for a pay rise won’t say no will take on other people’s debt will overextend ourselves financially to keep up will seek other’s approval will overspend on skincare and beauty products will blindly follow other people’s advice (of course that keyboard warrior on Facebook knows what you should do better than you do! Not) will second guess our decisions will avoid financial matters in case we get them wrong will put others needs before our own The list goes on! So. Here is one simple hack I discovered to help you change your negative self talk. It will feel silly at first but it really makes a difference.

14.01.2022 I remember 15 years ago looking at a job ad and saying to my husband this is my dream job! and then proceeding to explain all the reasons why I would never get it so there was no point in applying: the pay was double my current salary - so a significant step up the role was nothing like anything I had previously done... it called for management experience I didn’t have The list went on. Luckily for me, he encouraged me to give it a go anyway, and so I did. I gave that cover letter everything I had, and made sure my CV looked as transferable and relevant as possible. And you know what - I got the job!!! In fact, it wasn’t the first time that I succeeded in doing something that I was convinced I could never do. It wasn’t the first time someone gave me an opportunity that threw me in the deep end. Yet so often, we excel at putting down our abilities and dismissing opportunities that come our way out of fear that we aren’t good enough. So let this be the year that you start backing yourself! Take a moment to pause and consider: is there an opportunity available to you now that you’re afraid to take up because you’re worried you won’t be good enough or won’t succeed? If there is, I say bite the bullet and give it a go anyway! Chances are, you’ll surprise yourself.

10.01.2022 Wanna know the secret to saving and spending less? Doing something that fulfils you. That could be having a job you are passionate about, volunteering, hobbies.... The more time you spend doing things you are passionate about the sooner you will start to build your wealth. So the question is - What’s your creative outlet? What’s something that makes you lose track of time because you are so immersed in what you are doing? I love making cakes. It helps my mind to switch off and focus just on one thing It challenges me It connects me to my community It sparks my creativity And best of all, It brings me immense joy to see how happy it makes those around me. Here’s a few of my creations over the years #bragpost What about you? What’s something you love to do that brings you joy?

09.01.2022 If you are struggling with getting on top of debt, take a moment to consider where that debt is coming from. And in particular- are you overspending because you are using money to make yourself feel better? I know this feeling all too well. When I was in my late 20s I got my dream job and by all accounts I was living my dream life: I was making more money than ever, travelling the world, climbing the corporate ladder - yet I was racking up debt like it was going out of fashio...n! What I didn’t realise at the time was that deep down, my dream job wasn’t fulfilling me. It ticked a lot of boxes on paper, but it was sucking the life right out of my soul! So to cheer myself up I did what so many of us do: I spent money. New car, fancy clothes, expensive holidays - all to give me something to get excited about and feel like it’s all worthwhile. Nowadays I am debt free and have really turned my finances around. It all started with recognising what was driving my spending and taking steps to correct course. So ask yourself - what is the emotion that’s bothering me? Boredom? Sadness? Stress? Guilt? And then consider, what is causing that emotion? Your job? Your environment? Your relationship? Although it can be hard and even painful to admit the truth to yourself, no matter how hard you try your finances won’t improve until you address the true underlying cause of your spending. Change can be scary, but I and the WWC private Facebook community are here to back you every step of the way!

09.01.2022 Tax time is fast approaching! Give yourself a time extension and avoid penalties by engaging a registered tax agent in time.

07.01.2022 Toxic people are a drain on your time, money and energy - all of which could be getting put to better use! If you are struggling to make financial progress, it might be time to take a look at the people around you. Do arguments errupt over the smallest things?... Do you regularly feel sad, stressed, anxious, worn out? Are you always giving yet rarely if ever receiving? Are you often criticised, belittled or made to feel not good enough in some way? If the answer is yes, then it might be time to start looking for a new network of friends. People who are like minded and who fill you with a sense of love, acceptance, strength, optimism. You don't have to ditch your toxic friends overnight, but it is definitely time to invite some positive influences into your life!

06.01.2022 Wooohooo! I am so excited to announce that our fundraising target for @onegirlorg has been reached! Thank you SO much to everyone in the Women with Cents community who so generously supported this beautiful organisation. Together we have made a massive impact to the lives of little girls in Africa.... Your donations are going a long way to helping these young girls have access to education which is going to set them on a completely different life trajectory, and one where they have more say in their future and ability to contribute to their family. Before joining One Girl I had no idea how even the simplest of things we take for granted in developed countries can impact the lives of young girls. Things like getting your period meaning that you cannot attend school! Lack of schooling and education means that often these young girls are married off at a young age and forced to have children before they are even ready. I was so saddened to hear that in Uganda the median national age is 16. 16!!! So thank you so much for helping to make a positive difference in their lives. #fundraising #africa #education #girlpower #genderequality #endpoverty #climatechange #money #financialindependence #financialeducation #womensupportingwomen

06.01.2022 Needs some inspiration for simple ways to save more cash in 2021? Then look no further! Here’s 21 ideas to help you boost your savings!

06.01.2022 Do you earn a good income but struggle to save? I’ve been there, and let me tell you what I eventually learned: The more we earn, the more we spend because we think we can.... We buy into false messages: second hand is only for those who can’t afford better I’m too busy to shop around people will think less of me I probably won’t save much anyway new will last longer This doesn’t apply just to school uniforms. We apply it to everything! The car we drive. How much interest we pay on our mortgage. How much we pay for phone, electricity, internet and insurance bills. We overpay everywhere because we think we can afford to. But here is the tough truth. If you are struggling to save money and invest for the future, I’m sorry my friend, but it doesn’t matter how much you earn - you still can’t afford to be paying the lazy tax! The good news? You can still lead the lifestyle you’re accustomed to AND save a tonne of money with very little effort. Easy money DOES exist! Things like: buying second hand uniforms - I was shocked. The quality is practically brand new!! But a fraction of the price. I just saved $500! reviewing your home loan can easily save you thousands calling your energy provider, probably another thousand right there phone plans - for the same cover I dropped my bill from $600 a year to $200! Want to learn how I saved $18k WHILE on maternity leave? Check out this link: https://womenwithcents.com.au/the-surprisingly-simple-way-/ And btw - now is a great time to stock up on second hand uniforms when very few people are thinking about the start of the school year! 04.01.2022 Does the word 'budget' make you cringe? You're not alone! It's a common reaction! This is because many people associate the idea of a budget with deprivation, a sense of having to go without the things we want.... We also imagine it to be a lot of work - having to plan every little purchase carefully and track our progress. Nothing could be further from the truth. To me, a budget is about spending our money more consciously rather than on autopilot, and in doing so making sure that we spend money on the things that really matter to us rather than spending mindlessly, reactively and on autopilot. If you would like to know how I manage our household finances so we stay on track and spend freely WITHOUT having to track every single expense - check out this article. The first step was a game changer for us! https://womenwithcents.com.au/4-simple-steps-to-manage-you/

03.01.2022 We're all guilty of it! So why not spend some time this weekend taking a look at what items you can afford to sell off - it will help you declutter as well as boost your emergency savings fund. Thanks to technology, it has never been easier to do!

03.01.2022 Let’s talk phone plans. This is an area where many people are overpaying because they don’t realise what’s on the market. The best savings to be had are if you own the handset. So let’s share.... What plan are you on and which network is it on? I am with Kogan mobile on Vodafone network, $200 for 12 months, unlimited talk and text, 13GB a month data. So that comes to about $16 a month. What about you? P.S. to stay up to date with more money tips and saving ideas, make sure you join the Women with Cents Facebook group if you haven’t already! #bargain #bargainhunter #mobile #mobilephone #bills #savingmoney #womenwithcents #frugal #frugalfriday

01.01.2022 What stories do you tell yourself when things don't go your way or when you face a setback? I'm a failure? I could never do it? I'm not good enough?... It is easy to get into a spiral of negative self talk any time we experience rejection or a set back. But here is the truth: Things not going your way, does not make you a failure! The truth is that everyone experiences setbacks in their life - hurt, rejection, knock-backs. What separates those who are successful from the rest is not that they never experience set backs or that life was handed to them on a platter. It comes down to how they choose to interpret those setbacks and how quickly they bounce back. While we are quick to take things personally, a set back usually comes with a silver lining. Perhaps we are not on the path we are meant to be, or there is something even better awaiting us. History is full of examples of how what appeared to be failure turned out to simply be a stepping stone to the right path. Penicillin was discovered because of a failed experiment. Lisa Cudrow was fired after one episode on Frasier before landing her role as Phoebe on Friends. Henry Ford failed at three businesses before succeeding with Ford Motor Company. J.K. Rowling's first Harry Potter novel was rejected by 12 publishing houses before becoming an international success. The list goes on! So if you are hurting from a rejection or a setback ask yourself - what is another, more positive way, I can choose to view this situation? See more
