20.01.2022 Could You Be Who We Are Looking For?? WE'RE LOOKING FOR LEADERS! Do you know any young people in Scouts? Have you ever been in Scouts or Guides? Have you ever thought about it?... More importantly do you know the fun they have, the importance of the activities we provide and the role Scouting has in the lives of the young people in Traralgon? Or the importance Scouting has in our community, the opportunities available through Scouting, and the spirit we have amongst our Leaders? We are on the search for keen adults (18+ years) who want to take an active role in the lives of over 100 youth members at 1st Traralgon, and have fun doing it! Over the past century, more than a billion young people have been learning by doing through the global Scouting movement. Instead of learning in a formal way, our members have been getting their hands dirty, independently solving problems and learning from their mistakes. We emphasise active learning for young people through adventure and challenge. Scouts Victoria has 17,500 youth members and 5000 volunteer Leaders, all proving that adventure and the Scouting way are a wonderful way to learn, whatever your age. Scouting offers adults a host of rewarding opportunities to help make a difference in young people’s lives. You’re never too old to join the adventurous life of Scouting, even if you haven’t been involved before. https://youtu.be/OIzEbEIh77c

20.01.2022 Wed love to see you there. Have you bought your tickets yet?

20.01.2022 What is a Kangaree? A Kangaree is a major event for Joey Scouts, held every two years in Victoria. It is similar to a Cuboree for Cub Scouts, or a Jamboree for Scouts, but shorter just two nights and three days. A Kangaree is about 60 times the size of an average school camp! Joey Scouts are our youngest Section, aged 5* - 7 years. ... Enquiries and questions can be directed to the Group Leader Killara (aka Narelle) at [email protected]

20.01.2022 Months in the making..and opening night is tomorrow! I have my tickets ready. Dont miss out!!

19.01.2022 What is the loudest pet? A trumpet

19.01.2022 Congratulations to all the recipients!

The hosts, Scouts Victoria conducted an extensive search, and in January 2022, 10,000 Australian Scouts w...ill be heading to the Elmore Field Day site in Victoria. Since the Jamboree was held there in 2007, the site has been upgraded its green, flat, with lots more infrastructure and lots more water a great base for adventure. See more

19.01.2022 At Scouts, we’re an inquisitive bunch. If you are too, you might like to check this out.

19.01.2022 Today we celebrate Zach Cook receiving the Queens Scout award. Zach is a Venturer that truly helps others and has done every possible activity and event in Venturers. We are immensely proud of Zach and wish him all the best as he continues into Rovers.

18.01.2022 Did you know there are Scouts all over the world ? You can find a great local Group at 1st Traralgon in Peterkin St. If youd like to know more, comment below or email the Group Leader [email protected] https://youtu.be/VQOFUy24YLk

18.01.2022 What is the purpose of Kangaree? The purpose of Scouting is to help young people achieve their potential physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually as individuals, and as members of their local, national and international communities. Its the same for Kangaree a weekend that helps our youngest Scouts grow in confidence, learn to play and work with others, and to help others.

18.01.2022 Its nearly tax time! EOFY TODAY is the LAST DAY of this financial year so if you are looking at supporting your local Scout Group with a tax deductible donation for your 2019/2020 return, please do so RIGHT NOW! ... Our world was turned upside down in a very short time, and has continued changing quickly for longer than we may have thought. Many families have been affected financially, and everyone has been affected by the stress and uncertainty of these changes. Scouting has continued during Term 2 and played an important role in supporting young people, in particular by keeping them connected with friends! The benefits of Scouting such as resilience, supportive networks, problem solving, planning, and long-term positive mental health, have continued through our online contact. Of course, we cant wait to support our youth members through a complete social experience enriched by learning outdoors. Our Leaders have been doing an A M A Z I N G job providing online programs. They have dropped accessories into letterboxes for some activities, and badges into other letterboxes. We have had parents participating in our programs, having the opportunity to give their youth member well earned badges. Weve had ceremonies, opening and closing parades, celebrations, trivia, construction, and lots and lots of food activities - from marshmallow and spaghetti bridges to microwave cakes to armpit fudge! Weve had backyard campfires and astronomy sessions. Weve even had combined nights between sections and with other groups! To support Scouting families, Scouts Victoria suspended all membership fees across Victoria until March 31 2021. Annual fees were due today. The good news for our community is thats FREE Scouting! However, it means that I am asking for your help. 1st Traralgon still has most of their regular costs, and will pay a one-off Levy to Scouts Victoria, to maintain essential services like insurance, IT, and other support. So, while Groups arent charging fees, we still have some operational costs and the Levy to cover. We will be using rainy-day savings and other sources of income, as well as deferring repairs and new equipment. We appreciate not everyone may be financially affected in the same way. Families and community members who can afford to help 1st Traralgon are warmly invited to consider making a tax-deductible donation - whatever you can manage - all donations over $2 are tax deductible. Donations should be made to Scouts Victoria via their website. Remember to write in Notes that you are supporting 1st Traralgon! And thank you!

17.01.2022 Protecting yourself, and being protected by others, is an essential ingredient to being resilient. To be protected means to hold ourselves and others in care, with regard to safety, mental and physical health and learning. #TheScoutingEffect #ResilientScouts #beascout #scoutsvictoria

17.01.2022 FUN PEOPLE WANTED When we have a combination of new ideas, old experience, a network of support, training opportunities and laughter til your face hurts, we have a solid team who can share the load, and our young people get the best opportunities Did you know we have shift workers so having more Adult Helpers and Leaders helps us continue the program and takes the pressure off? ... We have parents. We have Rovers. We have individuals who love the vision of Scouting. And we have Scouts who have grown up to become big Scouts! Be part of something amazing! Please comment below or message us or send an email to [email protected]

16.01.2022 What do Joeys do at a Kangaree? Joeys enjoy a busy program of activities and entertainment, plus yummy food and plenty of rest. Joeys eat in large dining areas with hundreds of their friends, and either sleep in tents or on stretchers in large pavilions. ... This is a life-changing adventure!

16.01.2022 Our new Chief Scout.

15.01.2022 Last night we had the 1st Traralgon Scout Group and Churchill 1st Scouts Joeys come up to the station for a quick chat about what to do in the event of a fire i...n their home. The kids had a ball playing on the Fire truck and learning about all the cool equipment that we carry on board with us! Thank you everyone for a good night and for bringing the kids up to say hi! We hope you all enjoyed it!

15.01.2022 Did you know that the first person to walk on the Moon was a #Scout? In 1947 Neil Armstrong earned the highest achievement for Scouts in Boy Scouts of America, ...the Eagle Scout rank. He was from Troop 14 in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Scouting was part of everything that Neil Armstrong did and hence his space endeavours and travel to the Moon had many Scout elements. 15.01.2022 Fridays Fun Fact! World wide membership of Scouting is rapidly heading for 40 million members and is active in all but five countries!!

15.01.2022 The goal of Scouting is to help children and young people to flourish. We do that through a carefully designed program and method that focuses on the social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual development to build character. The program and method has been proven over more than a century of Scouting! If you would like more information or a chance to try Scouts, please message us.

13.01.2022 Have you seen our recent posts about Kangaree? Wed love it if you would comment and let us know what you thought!

11.01.2022 Where is Kangaree held? Kangaree is held at Lardner Park, near Drouin in west Gippsland, 100 kms from Melbourne. This is a grassy green site, with gentle slopes, abundant water, and many large permanent buildings, surrounded by cleared farms. (This is a dairy and beef area.) For an aerial view of the camp, go to Google Maps, search for Lardner Park, and then choose the satellite view.

11.01.2022 Its a Scout Cook-A-Long! Sunday 3pm in your kitchen

10.01.2022 Tomorrow at 4pm!

10.01.2022 Why let the youth members have all the fun? Did you know there are many opportunities for adults in Scouts too? You are never too old to join the adventure! And you neednt have been a Scout when you were younger to try it out now. We are always on the lookout for enthusiastic members of the community who are looking for a way to help young people grow and achieve their goals whilst building friendships with like-minded people. ... Imagine participating in an organisation that supports us through training, where we get to build our networks, where we can travel, where age isnt a limit, and we can share our knowledge and learn new skills from camp cooking to abseiling to everything in between! Check out the information on the Scouts Victoria website at https://scoutsvictoria.com.au/age-secti/adults-in-scouting/ If you want to know more, message us through this page!

09.01.2022 Scouting: more important now than ever. And its nearly tax time! Our world was turned upside down in a very short time. Many families have been affected financially, or by the stress and uncertainty of these changes.... Sport stopped. Young people were missing school. But Scouting continued and played an important role in supporting young people, keeping them connected with friends, and giving them useful things to do. Our Leaders have been doing an amazing job running online programs, but the real benefits of Scouting leadership, resilience and long-term positive mental health are enriched by a complete social experience that includes learning outdoors. Well get back to it soon! Scouts Victoria suspended all membership fees across Victoria until March 31 2021. Annual fees were due June 30 2020. Thats FREE Scouting! And it will be even better when were back in our halls and outdoors again. How can we afford this? To be honest, we cant. Groups still have most of their regular costs, and will pay a one-off Levy to Scouts Victoria, proportional to the size of the Group, to maintain essential services like insurance, IT, and other support. This is a fraction of the normal annual fee because the Scouts Victoria office has slashed every possible cost, and heavily reduced staffing. Groups are making similar cost-savings and deferring expenditure. So, while Groups arent charging fees, we still have some operational costs and the Levy to cover. We will be using any rainy-day savings and other sources of income, as well as deferring repairs and new equipment. How can you help? We appreciate not everyone may be financially affected in the same way. Families and community members who can afford to help 1st Traralgon are warmly invited to consider making a tax-deductible donation or whatever you can manage. Donations should be made to Scouts Victoria via their website. Remember to write in Notes that you are supporting 1st Traralgon! And thank you!

09.01.2022 Were excited to show you the new designs for our peak award badges. Following our members survey last year, the badges were developed in conjunction with the d...esigners of our new brand, Cato Brand Partners to reflect Scouting as the contemporary dynamic youth movement that it is. You will start to see them appear throughout 2020 as the old badges sell out. See the designs http://bit.ly/peakawarddesigns : Cecilia Jackson Art and Photography

07.01.2022 Its National Volunteer Week! And we want to say THANK YOU to all our Volunteers! We have adult helpers who help in our youth sections and committee members, and people who drive our youth members to events and activities, and some who sew our scarves, or make food and cook sausage sizzles, others who organise our fundraising...the list goes on! We couldnt do what we do without you! THANK YOU!... And we have LEADERS! Our Leaders undertake training on their weekends off and support future Scouting by training others, they organise events, they supply food and fix gear and pack trailers, they teach youth members and encourage our youth members to learn things and teach us, and they show up week after weekend after week. These people are dedicated and vulnerable and enthusiastic and just sometimes they are tired (have you seen us return from camp!?!) They have been thrown into an entirely new environment with Scouting @ Home and have done an incredible job. I know they are keen to get back to Scouting face to face, and more will come about this soon. But for now, on behalf of myself and the whole 1st Traralgon Scouting family, THANK YOU LEADERS!

04.01.2022 Scouting Leaders have incredible travel opportunities, interstate and overseas, to share discoveries with youth members.
