25.01.2022 FATHERS DAY WISHES Tonight, we would like to wish Dads and Granddads everywhere, a fantastic Fathers Day for 2020. We hope it was full of love and family-time.... No doubt there were many proud men celebrating Fathers Day for the very first time. We also stop and think of those who cant be with family for whatever reason. We would also like to acknowledge our tremendous Relay Dads who care for and nurture, not just their family, but our community and our communitys fight against all cancers. THANK YOU for all you do. Our thoughts go out to those families for whom Fathers day is now a day of reflection of wonderful fathers, no longer with them. We trust that great physical void is replaced with warm memories of better times. A special thought and prayer goes out to those Dads for whom Fathers Day will always be tinged with sadness after losing a child of any age. Our thoughts are with you. Take care Dads and have a terrific day. Feel free to send a warm message to an amazing Dad.

25.01.2022 Today is International Dog day! We all need attention and affection and thats just what pets give us. Its hard to put into words the happiness that a pet ...can bring someone. You might be the one caring for your pet but they support and care for you in unspoken ways. Whether its a dog wagging their tail and greeting you at the door, a cat or bunny snuggled in your lap or a bird singing to you, pets provide companionship and unconditional affection. The bond you share with a pet can do a lot to support your mental health. - Show us your pets below.

24.01.2022 FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR GRIFFITHS NEW COMMUNITY CENTRE Griffith City Council is preparing to turn the soil at the site of the new $4.5M Griffith Community Centre ...project, marking a significant moment for the region. The construction of the new Community Centre is fully funded with the NSW Government funding $3.65M and Griffith City Council and Country Universities Centre - Western Riverina each contributing $440K, following years of lobbying by Griffith City Council and Griffith Community Centre Inc. Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said the new state of the art building will replace the existing building, known as Neighbourhood House, in Benerembah Street. The new Community Centre will be constructed along Olympic Street - right in the heart of Griffith and within walking distance to many services, said Councillor Dal Broi. Council has worked very closely with staff from the Community Centre to create a building which is not only functional, but is sustainable and will cater to the growing needs of our community. The Community Centre will act as a centralised one stop shop for members of the Griffith community and will include community services, resources, and house the expanding Country Universities Centre - Western Riverina. Griffith has long needed a facility in which a range of community services could be offered, and the project team have delivered a design which will ensure these services can be delivered, said Councillor Dal Broi. This includes clothing, food bank, counselling services, information resources, IT and printing facilities, after hours comfort rooms, shower and laundry facilities for the homeless, and state of the art change rooms for those with disabilities. The Community Centre will have 12 offices which can be leased by community service providers, as well as a large conference room which can be hired for events or meetings - truly making this a one stop shop, he added. Griffith City Council General Manager, Mr Brett Stonestreet said this project will make a substantial difference to members of the community. Council has long supported the construction of a new community centre and we are pleased to be involved in being able to provide this facility, said Mr Stonestreet. Griffith City Council has approved the Development Application, and contracted Hines Constructions to complete the project. It is anticipated that Hines Constructions will take control of the site over the coming days, with construction to commence as soon as possible. We anticipate the project to be finalised by the end of May 2021, ready for occupation by local services and the Country Universities Centre - Western Riverina, he added.

23.01.2022 UPDATE: Thankyou for your support and concern. The damage is almost repaired and the lights will be operational again on Thursday night. Sorry for any inconveni...ence, but we must make sure everything is safe and secure for when you go to enjoy the lights. CCTV cameras are being installed and extra security has been arranged. THE VANDALS WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi has today expressed his disappointment as two of the City’s Christmas attractions are switched off. Sometime after 11.30pm last night, vandals severely damaged the two electricity boxes which operate the bauble and archway in Memorial Park, this was not only an extremely dangerous act, but has resulted in the closure of these two popular attractions, said Councillor Dal Broi. To say we are disappointed is a gross understatement Council invested heavily in time and money to be able to provide Christmas cheer for this community, and it has taken less than a week for vandals to ruin it for everyone else. Until electricians can attend the site and repair the electricity boxes, we have to keep the arch and bauble switched off to ensure public safety, he added. Council will be installing CCTV cameras in Memorial Park due to the ongoing issues with vandalism. Following the Glow2680 launch last week, the archway was damaged with lights broken. Later that evening, a group of teens took it upon themselves to attempt to push over the bauble thankfully a staff member was present to stop this from occurring, said Councillor Dal Broi. We didn’t believe it was necessary to install CCTV to protect the City’s decorations, however following these incidences it is clear that we need to take steps to protect community property. Council is working to repair the damage to the electrical boxes, however it is unknown how long the decorations will be out of commission. If you have any information relating to the vandalism, please contact the Police on 6969 4299 or Council on 1300 176 077. Council has a policy in place (GC-CP-314) which is there to encourage the public to play a role in safeguarding the assets of the community. Under this policy, Council will pay a reward of up to $2,000 to members of the public for information resulting in the conviction against persons damaging Council property information received will be treated confidentially.

21.01.2022 You’ve raised funds, you’ve raised awareness, you’ve been an all-star member of the Mo community - and from the bottom of our hairy hearts we thank you. It's be...en an epic effort. More than 62,000 upper lips are now the proud bearers of fully fledged moustaches. That’s an estimated 37 million moustache follicles, or 472km of moustache hair that’s tickled upper lips for men’s health around Australia. But don’t stop there. Make the most of your Mo and chase those last minute donations. Let's do it for the men in our lives.

15.01.2022 Drum roll please... Last month I had the pleasure of meeting Shaan, drummer for Wagga/Albury-based metal band Collapsing The Kingdoms who I obviously suggest... you check out (and not just because hes a top bloke!). If you ever want any evidence that my methods are as pain-free as possible, the fact Shaan was happy to chill out and game while I worked on creating his locks was it! Over two sessions we shaved the back and dreadied up the rest he has been wanting dreads for nearly 15 years so safe to say he was stoked I think he said his bandmates postponed their photo shoot so he could rock his new do too. Which is awesome Thanks for the review too Shaan, hugely appreciated mate!

(Ok..I know..I am her husband, so it might sound like I have a massive conflict of interest. But thats what family members and friends do, rightGet behind their loved ones, regardless of the blatantly obvious?) Alsoa big shout out to Barbaras workmates and past/present board members, who supported Barbara and always put the interests of the community, ahead of their own. In particular, Lynda Lane, Val Woodland, Karen Snaidero, Jo Polkinghorne, Helene Webster, Deb Longhurst, Sione Nosa, Joe Bennato and Adrian Bordignon. You guys are 10/10. 07.01.2022 They say mo’ money, mo’ problems. That is certainly the case for AFP Commander Brett James who has graciously put his pride and appearance on the line to help r...aise money for Movember in support of the AFP Men’s Shed. This month, Commander James not only grew a glorious handlebar moustache to promote men’s health, he pledged to rock a mullet for a few days if he reached his fundraising target of $2000. Well, today he hit the magic number! While we’re not sure the haircut and mo’ combo meets the current dress standards, we will let it slide for a good cause. How do you rate Commander James’ mo?

04.01.2022 Nine new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8.00pm last night. One previous case was excluded after further testing, bringing the total number ...of cases in NSW to 3,662. There were 24,421 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 27,937 in the previous 24 hours. Of the nine new cases reported to 8.00pm last night: two are returned international travellers four were locally acquired, all close contacts of known cases three are under investigation with no known source. Two of these are close contacts of each other. One of todays cases is a student of Tangara School for Girls in Cherrybrook. The school has been closed for cleaning and contact tracing is continuing. The source of infection is under investigation. For a list of locations associated with known cases and advice on testing and isolation, see: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates. Of the known clusters: 111 cases are linked to Thai Rock Wetherill Park 55 cases linked to the funeral events in Bankstown and surrounding suburbs, including 15 associated with Mounties in Mount Pritchard. 34 cases linked to Potts Point, including 28 cases linked to the Apollo Restaurant and six cases linked with the Thai Rock Restaurant Potts Point (two cases attended both). While most cases in the past week have been associated with local clusters and close contacts with known cases, nine have not been linked to known cases, indicating that COVID-19 is circulating in the community. Its extremely important we all play our part in prevention all the time. COVID-19 can be a serious disease. There are currently 107 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. There are nine COVID-19 patients in intensive care and six are ventilated. Eighty-six per cent of cases are being treated by NSW Health are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care. To help stop the spread of COVID-19: If you are unwell, stay in, get tested and isolate. Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out. Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others. We strongly recommend you wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance. A full list of COVID-19 testing clinics is available at the following link, or people can visit their GP: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx Isolation is mandatory for anyone identified as a close contact (not a casual contact) of a case. Anyone directed to undertake a 14-day self-isolation period must stay in isolation for the full time, even if they test negative. Early testing may not detect an infection, and release from self-isolation based on a negative test could allow an infectious person to infect others in the community. Most people who are infected and develop symptoms will do so within 14 days of exposure.
