25.01.2022 There is still time to visit the battlefields of PNG without trekking. Why not join us this coming October/November as we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the retaking of Kokoda. This tour will see you attend the official retaking of Kokoda-ceremony at the Kokoda Plateau for the 75th anniversary. In addition other key battlefields of the Kokoda campaign will be visited. These areas include Port Moresby, Owers’ & McDonalds Corners, Sogeri, Koitaki Showgrounds, Kokoda Station (village) and visiting the Northern Beachheads of Buna, Gona and Sanananda. 22.01.2022 On This Day: The 39th Battalion War Diary entry for the 3rd January 1942 reads:- ‘3 Jan ‘42 - 0900 hrs: Coy Parade Special Roll Check & Inspection. Troop ship Aquitania with 39th Bn farewell on board. Anchored 1 miles from Port Moresby at 1500 hrs. Troops issued with 10 rounds ammunition each. Disembarkation of troops commenced at 1630 hrs in HMAS Swan, HMNS Achilles and life boats from other Cruisers in convoy. 39th Bn disembarked by 1930 hrs. Personal baggage & kits p...laced in heaps at wharf and troops marched to 7 mile aerodrome. Settled in by 2300 hrs. No casualties in disembarkation. Convoy from Sydney to Port Moresby consisted of Aquitania, 2 merchant ships carrying heavy baggage, vehicles and provisions. 4600 troops onboard Aquitania. Escort ships were HMAS Perth, Canberra, Australia and HMNS Achilles. Corvettes HMAS Swan & Yarra and convoy at 1200 hrs 2 Jan 41 and remained until disembarkation completed. No enemy opposition encountered throughout trip’. The Aquitania was far too big to berth in Port Moresby hence the reason why they anchored 1 miles offshore.

08.01.2022 This news just in, Havala Laula has passed away this morning in the village of Kagi. With his passing we loose one of the last links to the famous Fuzzy Wuzzy A...ngels. Seen here is Havala with Sinead and Kila earlier this year by the sea side on the Mornington Peninsula. Our thoughts reach out to his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Rest In Peace Havala.
