21.01.2022 What started with a battle honour awarded to the McIntosh (Mhic an Toisich meaning son of the chief) family 900 years ago and 25 words or less has culminated ...into a family owned craft distillery established in 2013 by Stuart and Naomi. The passion for creating a scrumptious, oily and consistent single malt in the heart of Mornington peninsula was evident in the first few minutes of this mind blowing distillery tour. The core range is unique yet simply spectacular. The 900 sweet peat bottled at cask strength was a stand out for us. The single cask expressions were a level up. Stuart was kind enough to give us a sneak peep into the future and we are genuinely excited. @chiefssondistillery is here to stay and carve a space for itself and one to certainly watch out for. 18.01.2022 #repost @just.azza Lucky bottle 10 - hopefully it receives a 10/10 for drinking #local _ Sunday delivery day (wasn't expecting this at all) as most couriers don't work weekends. ... This single malt is Chief's Son 900 Standard Single Cask 69 Bottle 10/138 from @chiefssondistillery This bottle was the last bottle bought on the website and I knew if I didn't get it I'd be kicking myself with what-ifs for a fair while afterwards. When I opened the box, my immediate thought was "Wow! Look at the deep caramel/amber colour of it. Looks delicious." If the quality of ot is anything like The Tanist then I may just be forced into buying a few more drams from Chief's Son. Thank you also to the team at @chiefssondistillery for the kind message included in the parcel too! Here's to a long partnership with many more bottles to come! Chief’s Son- The Tanist & 900 Standard CS Massive shoutout to @chiefssondistillery for sending us these tasters, been looking forward to sitting down and trying these Aussie Whiskies. The Tanist- A beautiful sweet smoke escapes the bottle filling the nose. With a little more exploration hints of the sherry cask start to break through the smoke, with a touch of the oak woodiness. Honey sweetness with a gentle puff of smoke on entry. Super mellow on the tongue, only leaving gentle oak spice once down the hatch. The sherry, like the nose, shows up after the sweet smoke takes a back seat. Filtered coffee earthiness on the finish. The 900 Standard Cask Strength- Vanilla and Caramel sweetness on the nose with some alcohol vapour that quickly dissipates (thank you cask strength) The beautiful Sherried fruits then start to shine. The moment it enters your mouth a beautiful warming feeling washes over your tongue. A rich, smooth flavour of caramel sweetness mixed in with some toasted grains. You wouldn’t know your drinking a cask strength at 60% apart from the warmth, as this goes down a treat. The sherry influence pops up perfectly on the finish.
