18.01.2022 Wishing all members of our community and friends around the world A Very Happy Anglo-Indian Day! This day was created by the International Federation of Anglo-Indians to commemorate and celebrate the exceptional achievements of our microscopic community who have consistently performed way above our numbers and available opportunities. This applies to both India and in the various countries that our community have migrated to.... Stay proud in the fact that we have excelled and will continue to do so in whatever we put our minds to. Gordon Maher, President AAIA (Inc.) and President, International Federation of Anglo-Indian Associations (Inc.) A POEM THAT SOME CAN RELATE TO...... I remember the food of my childhood, the curries and pickles made with chillies and spice When the servants helped with the housework, And the dog chased buffaloes, goats, cats and mice The curries never needed a fridge, And the chappaties were so well baked and hot We children were seldom unhappy And Ma was content with her lot. I remember the milk from the Dudhwalla Mixed with water and no cream on the top, So we had a few Buffalo's .... for milk, cream, and yoghurt as needed. Our dinner came hot from a firewood stove And not from the fridge and the take-away shop. The kids were a lot more contented, They didn't need money for kicks, Just a game of goolly-danda or cricket with their mates on the road, And sometimes the Saturday flicks. I remember the shop or cart on the corner, Where bhajias, bhondas and jignut toffee, peanuts were sold Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic? Or is it...I'm just getting old? I remember the 'loo' was the lavatory And the bogey man came in the night, It wasn't the least bit funny When the electricity failed and there was no light Clothes were washed on the riverbed rocks By dhobis who mixed up the wash And they used a hot coal iron That burnt a hole in our jocks I remember the slap on my back And the taste of soap if I swore Anorexia and diets weren't heard of And we hadn't much choice what we wore. Do you think that bruised our ego? Or our initiative was destroyed? We ate what was put on the table And I think life was better enjoyed. ENJOY YOUR DAY!

06.01.2022 Sorry, something went wrong with this recording!

05.01.2022 Our childrens Christmas tree was held on 1 December 2019, with 29 happy little faces eager to explore the arts and crafts table. The children had a great time, as did the adults from comments received. The hall was decorated beautifully yet again. As the kids arrived they got stuck into the various craft activities. This year we had them making Christmas tree decorations using cupcake cases, popsticks and various stickers, Christmas cards were a favourite, too (among ot...her things), which were really nice. This year we had the return of some young face-painters who did a great job. Our tattoos were also very popular the adults didnt miss out on this either! All games/races went off very well and the kids enjoyed these immensely. Winners were presented with a gift later in the day. Comments received were that the gifts were very nice and they had a fun time! We served a variety of food and the menu was certainly scrumptious The adults received home-made patty, aloo bhondas, ham and cheese and tuna sandwiches, coconut balls, Christmas cake and tea/coffee. . There was a short session of Carol singing where everyone joined in and, as always, it was such a delight to hear the young ones sing! My two grand-daughters surprised me by joining their Papa in the Carols! We also had a nativity scene with some of our children participating and Isabel read a scene, which the kids enacted. I thank all of them and their parents and special thanks to Isabel for reading and organising this and thanks to Heather, Bridget and Inge for assisting with the kids and Gordon for playing guitar and leading the Carols. As usual Santas entrance was a joyous moment to see the little eyes light up was wonderful. Gifts were handed out, photos taken and then, all too soon, it was time to leave. It was a great afternoon with everything running smoothly. I would also like to thank everyone involved with set-up, clearing away, making food and assisting with games, etc. It was truly a team effort. PLEASE DO NOT TAG ANY OF OUR CHILDREN. THANK YOU. HOWEVER, FEEL FREE TO TAG THE ADULTS. Jennie Maher Membership Convenor
