25.01.2022 Suffering with Autoimmune Dis-ease Our immune system's ability to distinguish self from non self can be negatively impacted by both genetic factors and environmental triggers. Although genetics may be the source, it normally takes a very long time for the human genetic pattern to change enough on a worldwide scale. The strongest evidence-based research that has been published on the underlying causes are a rapidly changing and evolving civilisation. New technology, new ind...ustries, new inventions, new chemicals and drugs, and new foods and fad diets are constantly and rapidly being introduced in our ever-changing world. Toxicants, infections, epitope spreading, parasites, dysfunctions of immune homeostasis, and dietary components, imbalanced gut microbiome can all a have an impact on the body's delicate immune recognition system. Most allopathic diagnoses are a name given to a list of symptoms or how the body is responding/reacting to something that is in the body creating an imbalance or dysbiosis. Autoimmune can be painful, scary, lonely and debilitating to our emotional health, no matter how much love and support we may have around us. If you are in the grip of autoimmune - the question for you is, what is causing it? Always, always ask why. Our philosophy in approaching most of these conditions is to address the underlying cause - treat, realign, repair, and rebuild health. It is something that involves commitment, and sometimes it can be tough, but with consistency and the right condition everything is repairable. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

24.01.2022 Can We Eat Too Much Healthy Fat? Unfortunately, the answer is a big, fat 'yes'! Just because something is labelled as good doesn't mean we need to overindulge in it. While 'healthy fats' are a better alternative to artery-clogging saturated and trans fats, overdoing it can still lead to weight gain and health issues.... Healthy fat is still a fat, and just like unhealthy types of fat, is loaded with calories and extremely dense. If we eat too much, we will gain weight and if we are lean - it goes straight to our liver and other organs. Not only that, but excessive amounts of any type of fat increase our risk of other dis-ease in our bodies. Fat is a hormonally active tissue, it produces estrogen, which can make some of us prone to certain cancers such as breast, colorectal and prostate cancer. Even with the healthiest types of fat, such as avocado, flax seeds, chia seeds and nuts, which seem to be all the rage right now - it is so important to watch the quantities. To put it into perspective, a single avocado can have up to 500 calories. Although this number may be eye-opening, it doesn’t mean we should stay away from healthy fat altogether. It is the oils in these foods that feed our body (brain) in Omegas 3,6 and 9 so we must have them with each meal. The important thing is to limit our portion sizes. Our 10 year old loves these foods and if we load him up with them thinking we are doing the right thing - we will be setting him up for an awful puberty and doing far more damage than we know. This is a very common misconception and we see heavy overloaded livers in our clinic every day ranging from ages 8 through to 87. To learn about this and so much more, join us in one of our upcoming retreats. Limited space available in November 2020 and 2021 dates to be released shortly. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

24.01.2022 Healthy Gut leads to Healthy Skin ... Psoriasis, rosacea, persistent acne, eczema, dermatitis, fungal skin conditions - we all know someone who is trying to manage one, if not more than one of these skin conditions. If in this situation, we sometimes find ourselves starting with switching soaps, hair products, cleaning products, removing foods we enjoy and anything else we can think of. When we feel we have exhausted all options, we can end up in the hands of a specialist wal...king out with a prescription for antibiotics, steroid creams or other medications to assist in treating the symptom. Although, we are advocates for medication when used in the right way - when it is not treating the cause we will always ask why and we encourage our patients to always, always ask why? We cannot emphasise enough the importance of gut health and the influence it has on our skin, which is another major pathway of elimination in our body. Psoriasis and rosacea have been linked to dysbiosis in our microbiome along with pathogens such as Strep or H. Pylori. Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) is a bacterium and can be one of the main causes of chronic gastritis, gastric cancer, gastrointestinal ulcers and recent evidence-based research suggests that H. Pylori infection plays a role in the pathogenesis of a variety of skin dis-eases. Our philosophy is to listen to our patients, work with them to find the cause and treat accordingly. When working with facial skin conditions, we also like to suggest working with Lousie Michell in supporting our treatment. Healthy Gut, Healthy Life, Healthy Mind .... And Skin!

23.01.2022 Gluten-Free - Do We or Don't We? Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley and lately it seems to have become hip to go gluten free. Based on little or no evidence, we have been switching to gluten-free diets to lose weight, boost energy, treat autism, or generally feel healthier. It can be hard to make sense of this based on current clinical research. Those who are sensitive to gluten may feel better, but a larger portion will derive no significant benefit from the... practice. We simply waste our money, because these products can be expensive. How Gluten Causes Trouble ... When we have celiac disease, gluten triggers an immune response that damages the lining of the small intestine. This can interfere with the absorption of nutrients from food, cause a host of symptoms, and can lead to serious health problems. A related condition called gluten intolerance or non-celiac gluten sensitivity can generate symptoms similar to celiac disease but without the intestinal damage. Not long ago, celiac disease was diagnosed by a process of elimination. Now it can be identified with a blood test for the presence of antibodies against a protein called tissue transglutaminase. A biopsy of the intestine confirms the diagnosis. In this case we may be required to have a strict, life-long gluten-free nutrition plan to support our health. Going Gluten Free ... Avoiding gluten means more than giving up traditional breads, cereals, pasta, pizza, and beer. Gluten also lurks in many other products, including frozen vegetables in sauces, soy sauce, some foods made with natural flavorings,, vitamin and mineral supplements, some medications, and even toothpaste. This can make following a gluten-free diet extremely challenging. When we are determined to go gluten free, it is really important to know that it can set us up for some nutritional deficiencies and have other serious repercussions. When we remove gluten, we are removing a major source of B vitamins. Some being B1,2, 3 and 9. These vitamins are potent in having a CNS (central nervous system) that alerts us quickly. The quicker it alerts us, the better our brain. These vitamins are also responsible for good hormonal flow. Our hormones are our chemical messengers and assist in creating homeostasis in our body (balance). Vitamin B9, more commonly known as folate or folic acid, so important for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. For most of us, the presence or absence of gluten alone is not related to nutrition quality. What is important are the overall food choices made within our nutrition plan, whether it is gluten-free or not. Don't be to quick to remove foods from the plate without understanding what else we might be compromising. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

23.01.2022 It Takes a Village Sitting in peak hour traffic driving my boy to school when I receive the call Nardia, the cleaner has arrived and there is water gushing from your room and out into the hallway - it’s an inch deep. Can you hear it swishing around?... I’ve got traffic surrounding me, I cannot do anything but start making phone calls. I was literally forced to sit in the space. Thank you to my brilliant landlord Jen and her team, the cleaner, Laura, Rob, my parents, plumber and my patients for their patience! With their effort and support - I was able to be back up and running to see to everyone. On the upside - at least it wasn’t sh$&;t! Thank you for being my village today, simply ~ thank you Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

It has been our privilege to walk beside you in this process ‘I cannot even begin to express the gratitude I have for this wonderful human Nardia and the work she does at Adelaide Wellness Clinic. Years upon years of stomach issues, countless bills, diets, naturopaths, regime after regime, and in a point of destitute fate had me find her. As all things in life the most important moments com...e completely unexpected. An initial colonic but this time resulting in me leaving the session with a smile on my face and a new lease on life. Her immense knowledge, warm kind energy, her ability to genuinely read me and formulate what I needed, bringing me into harmony in such a simple yet elegant way. Over just a few sessions I now have the knowledge and tools I wish I had found many, many years ago. It brings a slight tear to my eyes reflecting on the impact she has had on my life. She is nothing short of an angel. 21.01.2022 Lovely words Nikki - thank you for sharing your experience with us. Our exchange is reciprocal, and we truly feel that we are only giving what was given to us. We pass it on, and the change you are experiencing is a credit to you. We are excited to continue walking beside you ‘I came to Nardia looking for a fat camp, I was so over being a bigger girl. Nothing was working, I had 2 weightloss surgeries and both had failed. I was beginning to feel horrible and really sta...rting to resent myself. I was in a desperate state and then found Nardia! My first consultation went well, she educated me on how the digestive system works and how this links in with mental health and how it’s so important! Nardia is extremely professional and so understanding, and so incredibly supportive and most of all so educated! Nardia pointed me in the right direction, and gave me a directive to follow. Since then I have made a simple change and have lost 4 kilos in the first 2 weeks of my journey. My skin started clearing up, I have more energy, and I’m feeling great! My life is starting to change so much and without the help of Nardia constantly supporting me and being by my side I wouldn’t have changed, I would be the same miserable person I was before. Thank you Nardia for being the positive and the amazing person that you are! You are truly a blessing In my life!’ Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

20.01.2022 Listening to Ourselves and Others During times of discomfort, we must try not to concern ourselves with how other people respond or react (as much as possible), that is their business over which we have no say or control. Our business is who we are being. Try to always check before we speak: 'why are we saying this'? Many times we realise that our intention is to coerce, compel or control. If that's the case, then don't say it. When we speak only from love, care and compass...ion things just work more peacefully (we hope). Something I have to work on every moment every day. I don't always get what I want from others and that is something I have learned to accept. What I can do is give myself what I need, and that is often harder than it sounds. Speak less, listen more Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

20.01.2022 Thank you for sharing your story and experience with us Peta. The commitment you are making to your health every day is inspiring and we will continue to walk the path with you. Thank you for trusting us to do so 'About four years ago I was diagnosed with spondyloarthritis (auto-immune disease) and I have been on numerous medications in an attempt to curb the pain associated with the disease. However the medication caused disastrous side effects. Almost a year and a half a...go a friend recommended I book in to see Nardia at the Adelaide Wellness Clinic. From the first session I felt an instant connection with Nardia and her warmth and support of me was really just what I needed. She is a fantastic listener and also happy to share her own experiences with chronic illness. Nardia is very knowledgeable on gut health and the digestive system. I have recently started a lifestyle program including a cleanse and elimination diet and with the help of Nardia I hope to heal my body and leave this disease behind. Nardia is genuinely interested in helping me and will do what she can to accommodate me and assist with my healing process. I am very grateful to her.' 20.01.2022 Change ... Whether the change be through our own choice or through circumstance - it can be painful. With time, most of us get used to life after change. No matter how big or how small - it is still fine and things settle back into their traditional rhythms season after season and are much as they have always been.... Remember, time is big and precious and unrenewable. Try not to travel back or forward, not even for the day. Just try to live every day as if we have deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it as if it was our full final day of an extraordinary, ordinary life. Know that all we can do is our best to embellish this remarkable ride, and just be. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind ,Healthy Life

17.01.2022 Addiction - what is the portal? Whether it be drugs, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine need not matter - stimulus is stimulus, it is detrimental to our brains and the driver of foolish energy. While most may suggest the portal opens through trauma in our life, particularly childhood - it is definitely not always the case.... It is so important to understand that every traumatised child doesn’t grow into an addict and every addict has not been a traumatised child. In recent decades the addiction label has expanded to behaviours including overeating, overthinking, gambling, shopping, perfectionism, overworking, phone and internet overuse and gaming. When looking at these - a clear indication that we all sit on the addiction spectrum somewhere. If we can ask not what’s wrong with addiction, but what’s right with it? What is the addict getting from it that makes their addiction worth the price they pay? Why is the therapeutic quality of a behaviour so necessary for so many? If addicts can find peace and control only when they’re using, what agonising discomfort must they feel when they’re not? We work with addiction every day from adolescent to adult and we cannot treat everyone the same. It is not always about letting go of or working through trauma, flicking a switch and changing mindset, thinking positively or having one program or set of tools that works for everyone. It is far more complex, however just because something or someone is complex does not mean they don't deserve to be helped or loved. It may be a friend, a child, a partner, a team mate a colleague, a family member. Don't be too busy to give up or reach out - you could be the difference. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

16.01.2022 Success in Life ... Success including creation of wealth has always been considered to many a process that requires hard work and often at the expense of others. What if we made it about the progression in happiness?... If we can take a more simple approach to success which is the abundant flow of all good things to us, we may have the ability to fulfill our desires - the law of least effort. Even when we feel all our desires have been fulfilled - we may still remain unfulfilled if we are unable to nurture the happiness that sits within us. True success is the unfolding of the happiness inside us - the unravelling of our soul. When we begin to experience our life as a miracle, not occasionally but all the time, then we will understand the true meaning of success. Allow us to walk beside you gently in your unravelling. 15.01.2022 Working with an autoimmune condition ... We commonly hear the frustration in our patients as they move between different medications over time trying to find the one that works for their body - one with manageable side effects. Despite all of their efforts and those of their specialists, the conditions often still present themselves and remain uncontrolled in many cases Our philosophy in approaching most of these conditions is to address the underlying cause - realign, repair... and rebuild health. The strongest evidence based research that has been published on the underlying causes are an imbalanced gut microbiome and oxidative stress. When working with our patients, it is important that whilst we keep the inflammation as low as possible, we must also address the underlying cause with the focus in stopping dis-ease progression and prevention. We support and assist this with the practice of absolute detoxification, colon hydrotherpay, gentle cleansing and healing of the gut, nutrition, movement and other holistic disciplines. With combination and consistency we create the right condition to nurture a vital sense of wellbeing, better daily movement and less required medication. In some cases, having reversed symptoms to the point of medication not being needed at all. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

14.01.2022 Jason - thank you much for taking the time to share your experience with us. You came with some doubt, some guilt, some fear, a wild story but most of all with heart, honesty, vulnerability, courage and the love and support of your beautiful family. We did it - you are still doing it! Thank you all for trusting me and allowing me to walk beside you in this process. Keep flying! 'I went to Nardia for the sole purpose of overcoming my addictions that are hurting my body. At o...ur initial meeting I felt really comfortable with her and what she was all about. After a week or so I decided to book a detox retreat. Well, from the first day I realised I was in for much more than I expected! Nardia leads you through an awesome process that detoxes you but she educates you about nutrition & your body and what it needs to run at its best. There are no products or supplements for sale, she truly is doing this to help you. If you're ready, you need to commit! Thanks Nardia for all the walks, talks, swims. The best part is that Nardia is not telling you how to do, she is showing you how she does .... big difference!' Jason Sander Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

13.01.2022 Thank you Tash for sharing your experience with Adelaide Wellness Clinic. You certainly came in having done the work and ready to let go - a credit to you! It has been our pleasure walking beside you in this process and we look forward to continuing to connect, educate and inspire

12.01.2022 Giving Our Self Permission Some of us get caught in the belief that if we are not doing anything or achieving something, we are wasting our time. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Although we might not be working, learning, burning calories or building muscle. What we are doing is tapping into the part of our nervous system that knows how to repair, recharge, replenish - our parasympathetic nervous system. The ripple effect is a more calm, relaxed, serene mind shift...ing the body into healing. 80-90% of dis-ease can be connected to stress, so there may not be many more important things we can be doing than the simple act of stopping. A big part of our practice is giving our patients permission to indulge in the time, and space of letting go in the clinic, and teaching them how to create this ritual every day of their life. We see patients regularly who have been constantly pushing and striving to 'fix' themselves - too much, too fast and it often leads to scatter, confusion, and deregulation. What is happening in our life will determine if we need to ground and have stability or if we need to be curious in growth. A gentle reminder: S - Stop T - Take 3 deep breaths O - Observe what is happening in body P - Proceed slowly, gently with kindness Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

11.01.2022 Stuck in Indecision When buried in non essentials we can lose track of what is truly significant. In these moments, I encourage patients to think about their values and allow these to guide them with choice.... Using guiding values like who we want to be, how we treat ourselves and others can point us toward the people and actions and habits that are best for us. Without values we begin to wander aimlessly and we can take wrong turns, we become lost and we find ourselves trapped by indecision. If we take a moment to think about the value behind the choice we are about to make, it becomes a value driven decision. In time it becomes instinctive so we make conscious choices about what matters and how much energy we devote to it. Filtering out the opinions, expectations and obligations of others becomes easier. We don’t want to block them of course, as we want to learn from other people - the challenge is in doing so consciously. Trust, Respect, Confidence, Determination, Honesty are some of my own values and what I admire in my family, friends and peers. Nonetheless, whatever they may be for each of us, they are the landmarks that we can use to guide us through our own life. When we are not alone, it is nice to surround ourselves with people who fit well with our values. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

11.01.2022 Learning From or Letting Go For some of us the past can be intoxicating, it can draw us in, create the illusion that things were better, that we were happier, or experiences were richer back then - we romanticise it. It can also debilitate us, leaving us stuck in our memories of pain, heartbreak, and disappointment, holding us back from even attempting another shot at happiness. ... We often hear that if we don’t learn from our past mistakes, we’re bound to repeat them. Can we also learn to let go of the past? Learn to forge ahead, keeping the knowledge close but not letting it overtake our ability to try again, to feel again. When we feel, we can do anything. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

08.01.2022 How many colonics will I need? A great question, and one we are often asked, along with: . Will I need more than one colonic?... . Will it help me lose weight? . How many do you think I will need? . Is there any obligation? There is absolutely no obligation, however most of us will really need around 3 to 5 colonics to truly cleanse our colon. Our colon is around 2 metres long that is much taller than me (not hard!). Keeping this in mind, the average person is holding around 5-7kg of waste in their colon. To suggest that we may remove all of this in one session is unrealistic, especially if we have been constipated or have had issues with our gut health for some time. Everything will more than likely be quite hard and dry even if we use our bowels once a day, there will still be an accumulation of years of stuff (physical, environmental, and emotional). As a guide we may suggest 3 colonics, depending on what we are working with. It is important that we take a very individual approach with each patient. We cannot treat our patients who have suffered with chronic constipation the same as we treat our patients working with addiction, chronic health, emotional health or weight loss. If we can do 3 colonics within 3 days, we will get an amazing result as our body has less time to put more toxicity in while we are taking it out - this is a great starting point for most. We can also get a good result if we have 3 colonics over 3 weeks. In this scenario, we need to be mindful of what we are putting back into our body. Poor eating every night between these sessions will not produce the best result as if we fed ourselves with simple whole food meals or juice fasting. The cleansing process is totally up to you and can be empowering. As your belly starts to become cleaner and you begin to feel more hydrated and comfortable in both body and mind, it may inspire you to make healthier choices. You will begin to see and feel a shift after 2 or 3 colonics. In your first session you may feel a little nervous, and you will hold on a little more. By your second session you will feel calmer, relaxed and ready to let go. You will begin to experience what the result will look like. In overview - we all respond differently, every session will be different, there is not a one size fits all option and we will walk beside you as long you need us to. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

08.01.2022 The Gift of Pain Physical, emotional, psychosomatic - pain in our body can be our greatest teacher. Although there is a time and a place for pain medication, if we nullify the voice of pain altogether we may miss our opportunity in hearing what our body is trying to communicate.... Pain can be the signal - telling us there is an imbalance or that there is something wrong. If we can accept the pain as information, listen to and honour it we begin to learn, to grow, to understand in a deeper way. Of course, it can be very humbling and very challenging when we’re moving through pain. I have learnt so much in my own experience of feeling pain - often reminding me that it is time to slow down or in many instances to bring greater kindness and compassion to how I work within my own body. On the other side of the suffering is an intense connection with life and with being embodied, having a body and feeling sensations. Feeling good, feeling not so good almost made no difference. The pure experience of it was all that mattered. Being in the moment without judgement. When we learn this for ourselves, the shift begins and we allow our body's innate intelligence to do what it knows - the small self gently merges into the big self. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life.

05.01.2022 Oestrogen, Our Gut and Fertility ... Did you know that the health of our gut has a serious impact on our hormonal health? Most women know that each month... at the beginning of our cycle we start to produce oestrogen. Production rises until we ovulate and then reduces while progesterone starts to increase, preparing the uterus for the possibility of a fertilised egg. Oestrogen plays a key role in reproductive health and fertility in both females and males, and surprisingly, our gut health can have a big impact on this hormone. The gut microbiome is one of the main regulators of oestrogen, however, if the gut microbiome is imbalanced, this process can be impaired and interferes with the detoxification of oestrogen. This may lead to an increased risk for elevated oestrogen levels. This is otherwise known as ‘oestrogen dominance’. This oestrogen dominance may then contribute to the development of conditions related to reproductive health and infertility, such as endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome in women, and reduction in sperm production for males. If our gut health is affected by poor nutrition or damaged gut flora - constipation can result and if the oestrogen is unable to regulate and we cannot detoxify properly they can be broken down into more harmful metabolites again and swing around the system for another go. This interferes with the natural balance, which allows our bodies to produce a healthy egg and then provide the right environment for implantation. Often the first sign of this is constipation in the run up to our period. Many women with PMS report constipation in the days before a period - often this resolves as soon as bleeding starts. However, for women with chronic constipation this easing of symptoms may not occur. Colon hydrotherapy is an excellent starting point for improving our gut health. Paired with quality nutrition support, it can also aid in enhancing liver function to promote hormone balance. Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life
