25.01.2022 I totally agree ..."Research suggests that singing and listening to music can help people with dementia, in some cases reducing the need for medication. Studies suggest it can help reduce agitation and minimise the need for restraint, helping people with dementia and their families cope better with symptoms." ...

23.01.2022 Meet Jan Thompson-Hillier, a true professional I'm sure you will agree. We were very fortunate to capture this interview while in NSW. Jan was 92 when she recorded this number. Sadly she died twelve months later in 2017 leaving a legacy of her wonderful talented piano playing for all to enjoy. Her beautiful piano music is now available for streaming and downloading via Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify and most other music streaming apps around the world. Type 'Jan Thompson-Hillier' in the album search to display a large variety of classics, dance and sing-along favourites, shows, nursery rhymes, Christmas carols and many of your favourite old inspirational hymns.

22.01.2022 Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and as Aged Care Suppliers and committed Christians both Graeme Pope (creator of Aged Care Music Resources) and Linda Hoogenboom (founder of the social enterprise QualityLife in New Zealand) believe they need to offer some practical assistance to support the Aged Care industry at this difficult time. To this end, they have agreed to supply the Aged Care Music Resources to those of you who are interested, at a substantial di...scount* (and a substantial loss for them) Their hope is that these resources will help you meet the needs of your residents and add some vital fun that can be enjoyed from a safe distance until we return to our normal routines! The good news is that when things get back to normal these resources will continue to provide hours of enjoyment and engagement for your residents. Take care and bless you all for the work you do to make the lives of those elderly in our care engaging and worthwhile. https://www.agedcaremusicresources.com//lan/covid_19.phtml

18.01.2022 Spot on article! For those associated with the aged care industry, this article, 'Rethinking aged care: emphasising the rights of older Australians' by Stephen Duckett, is well worth a read. https://grattan.edu.au/report/rethinking-aged-care/

14.01.2022 Graeme here ... Seniors love this, I know because I am one! The piano was central to their lives when they were young ... I still remember. Enjoy these guys. They are wonderful. Thank you Sharon for sending through the link.

14.01.2022 Looking forward to the NZSDRT Conference in August ... be there if you can.

13.01.2022 Absolutely correct! ... You can’t just keep putting more legislation and more rigorous checks on people. ... regulation may be necessary but it needs a commonsense approach to 'de clutter' the bureaucratic processes so staff can get on with the work they were engaged to do. Legislating behaviour never works. A better way to effect change in a positive way within residential care would be through the introduction of a ‘HUMAN FACTORS’ TRAINING PROGRAM. Human Factors training ...had its beginning in the Aviation Industry in 1987 under the guise of Crew Resource Management (CRM) training. It worked so well in aviation, human factors training has expanded to other professions where it is now referred to as Non-Technical Skills (NTS) training, a training program the Aged Care Industry needs to embrace. NTS training is designed to educate people engaged in a diversity of roles at all levels to think differently about how they work together as valued and respected members of a team. The aim being to transform the current broad variation in industry culture built around a vertical management hierarchical structure to a culture based on good teamwork. This means the various roles, 'Leisure and Lifestyle' included, are connected synergistically with a focus on quality outcomes that are recognised and standardised industry wide and documented as company policy. It becomes the platform whereby everyone at all levels can have an equal say without fear of recrimination. On the other side of this 'human game' we play, are the lives of our aged citizens who have given so much across their lives to contribute to a great Australia. We must never forget that.

11.01.2022 When we engage in enjoyable experiences, such as listening to our favourite music, the brain is stimulated to release specific chemicals which create a sense of happiness and wellbeing. For those living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s it is essential that those who are responsible for their care, provide such happy moments. Here you will see why, as you watch the amazing change in the demeanour of an Alzheimer’s sufferer, as she responds to music stimulus, and learn more about the science behind this response.

04.01.2022 Colette Baya is the Musical Armchair Travels program developer, a music-based resource designed to support the work of facilitators conducting reminisce and activity programs in aged care. While in search of 'age appropriate' music for her residents with dementia, Colette discoved the music of John Sidney, and a few years later, Barry Hall. Music recorded by these two great old time Australian musicians can be downloaded or streamed online via most online music apps. If you work with our elders in care, they will be ever so grateful to you for embracing this music on their behalf. Enjoy.

04.01.2022 "...No one says playing music will be a cure for Alzheimer's disease, but it might make the symptoms more manageable, decrease the cost of care and improve a patient's quality of life." ... this is a good read, especially for those caring for our elders living with the symptoms of dementia.

03.01.2022 A big Thanks to the Clifton Community Op Shop for funding C.C.H.S to purchase some great new music resources for our Baby Boomers.

02.01.2022 This is nostalgia at its best. For anyone who loves music from the golden days when the piano was king and dancing and sing-a-longs were central to community life, this collection is pure joy. This wonderful collection shared from Graeme’s Google Play playlist showcases the extent and depth of John Sidney’s magnificent talent as a pianist. Most residents in care will be ever so grateful to you for embracing this music on their behalf. John’s beautiful piano is sure to brighten their day. Enjoy.

01.01.2022 Musical Armchair Travels is certainly a one-of-its-kind musical activity. Facilitators are slowly wrapping their minds around this as they search for something new, or a different way to approach an activity. In our effort to offer some practical assistance to support the Aged Care industry at this difficult time, we have significantly reduced the price of this resource for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic period. Take care and bless you all for the work you do to make the lives of those elderly in our care engaging and worthwhile.

01.01.2022 'THE CASE FOR LEISURE AND LIFESTYLE IN RESIDENTIAL CARE' is a submission we uploaded to the Aged Care Royal Commission July 30th. The aim of this submission is to provide the commission with an accurate reference as to how aged care works in Australia today. The submission focuses on the definite need for change in industry culture and outlines a sound solution to successfully implement such change. If you share our passion, please feel free to share this for all and sundre to read. Graeme Pope

01.01.2022 Kim Bromley Best CDs ever, I use them nearly every afternoon ... create a amazing atmosphere, help settle behaviours, turn it quite loud then bring down the volume slowly and most often it will work to calm the room ... you just need to observe, no conversation maybe blow bubbles, hold hands a smile and let the music do its work....
