25.01.2022 This week, Australia celebrates NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme, 'Always Was, Always Will Be', recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for the Australian continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Happy NAIDOC Week! #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
22.01.2022 Thank you to the wonderful women of the Niue Council of Women for inviting me, and my colleague Nigel from the New Zealand High Commission, to be part of your Tivaivai Exhibition event this week. I was honoured to be one of the first recipients of products woven from your pandanus plantation. Your joy and fellowship with one another is to be treasured - Susan.
19.01.2022 Premier Dalton Tagelagi is leading by example in Niue’s efforts to tackle climate change. The Premier now uses his e-bike to commute to work and for short trips around town - staying fit while reducing his carbon footprint.
19.01.2022 A new website showcasing the Pacific region’s rich and diverse cultural heritage went live recently. Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has partnered with Pacific museums, galleries and archives to bring this virtual museum to life - sharing Pacific stories with the world. The virtual museum shares the diverse culture and histories of the Pacific and will be used for education and learning. We hope the museum helps Pacific people connect with and celebrate t...heir heritage, wherever they live around the world. The virtual museum is currently displaying items held by New Zealand and Australian institutions. Over time, the collection will grow to include items held by institutions and collectors in the Pacific and around the world. 17.01.2022 The Australian Government now allows some limited quarantine-free travel from New Zealand to Australia. Unfortunately this does not apply to travellers from Niue. Travellers from Niue are still required to undertake 14 days quarantine either in New Zealand, or on arrival in Australia. For more details on the Safe Travel Zone and requirements to enter Australia, please visit the website of Australia’s Department of Home Affairs. https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/
12.01.2022 Congratulations to the Government of Niue for the launch of the AREAN project. Like Niue, Australia is committed to practical action to achieve net zero emissions. We are on track to exceed our 2030 Paris Agreement target and are investing $18 billion in low-emissions technologies over the next decade. And I’m already using my fabulous new water bottle instead of the disposable ones - Susan. Project Management and Coordination Unit - PMCU - Government of NIUE
12.01.2022 A big thank you to Stan Kalauni and the team at Niue Vanilla for your excellent and informative tour of the vanilla farm. Nigel Ewers, Deputy at the New Zealand High Commission, and I had the honour of planting a vanilla vine. I’m hoping the vine will prosper despite my inexperience with the crop. Vanilla is a product with a growing export market and is helping to showcase Niue as a producer of high quality, organic gourmet produce - Susan.
