23.01.2022 Urgent Special Bulletin for ALL Victorian Sheds The Premier of Victoria has just announced a lockdown for the Melbourne Metropolitan area and the Mitchell Shire as from midnight the 8th July 2020 for six weeks. Exercise and recreation Study and work if you can’t do it from home The lockdown will apply to ALL SHEDS in the Metropolitan area and to those in the Mitchell Shire. In other words - Sheds must be closed down from midnight tonight for six weeks or until further advised. This applies to ALL SHEDS in the following Council areas and the Mitchell Shed: Banyule, Port Phillip ,Frankston,Hume, Cardinia ,Melton,Bayside Maribyrnong, Wyndham,,Kingston, Stonnington, Glen Eira, Mornington Peninsula, Casey, Monash ,Boroondara, Maroondah , Yarra Ranges, Knox Whitehorse, Hobson’s Bay,Nillumbik ,Darebin, Moreland, Manningham, Brimbank, Melbourne, Whittlesea, Yarra Moonee Valley, Greater Dandenong ,Mitchell Shire Sheds are reminded that they must follow the lockdown announcement. The safety of our Shedders, of our loved ones and those living in our communities is crucial to our overall health and well-being. The VMSA recognizes that the closing down of our Sheds in the above Metropolitan areas and the Mitchell Shire may place additional stress on some of our Shedders and their mental health and well-being. These are trying times for us all and we will get through this with your help. If any Shedder needs help please contact: Lifeline 13 11 14 for crisis support chat. The VMSA sincerely thanks ALL SHEDDERS for their perseverance and ability to cope with the pressures and many changes that this Covid 19 pandemic has brought to our lives in the last 5 months. The VMSA would also like to remind ALL SHEDDERS to please keep up the regular contact with your fellow Shedders through phone, or out on exercise walks or when shopping for essential items, or letters or dropping off cards, or via e-mail, zoom or skype or Facebook or other means. The VMSA is pleased and most grateful for the care and contact in the way that Shedders kept up in contact and cared about each other during our earlier lockdown for which the VMSA received an award from The Australian Men’s Health Forum. Keep up the great work Shedders. Please ensure that your Shed is regularly inspected for security purposes and that any security systems are working. 22.01.2022 APMS Fitness & Flexibility Activity July -2020 Attached is the Certificate from Fitness Australia which shows APMS Fitness & Flexibility Programme was a finalist in the Community Exercise Program Award in 2020. There were over 2,000 nominations submitted so it is with great pleasure that APMS accept this certificate.... The submission was made by Casey YMCA who provide professional Trainers Brett & Tina to attend the Shed each Friday 10-11am, to direct and instruct the Mens group in exercises that provide fitness, flexibility, improved balance necessary to prevent falls and endurance. The age range of the 25 weekly attendees is 68 to 94 years young. The pool of members who attend is 42. Importantly this active group is sponsored by a Grant from Casey/Cardinia Foundation, this is the second year out of three years we have been fortunate to have received their valuable support. Ernie Bird is the originator and leader of this group, it is the dedication of the YMCA Trainers with exercises to match the needs of the group. Twice yearly assessments give motivation to keep doing the best they can to show fitness improvement, which impacts on social and mental health with enjoyment. Even in this Covid 19 Pandemic the Shed was closed 23/3/2020 until further notice, our group continues to operate in Members homes with at least 15 active members. Brett Andreasen one of the YMCA professional Trainers who has been leading the exercise program at the Shed, has devised U Tube exercise programs. These exercises which cover a total of 60 minutes, reinforces exercises previously directed by Brett & Tina, each participant can record their activity on a chart as a record for themselves on each activity. The above I believe shows the commitment APMS Fitness & Flexibility Group have, in pursuing this program even in difficult times. APMS hope this achievement, but more importantly the benefits shown, will encourage additional members to join the group even a second hour of activity. Other group’s throughout Casey will be formed to gain the benefits of YMCA skills. Welfare & Wellbeing There have been at least two members having surgery, with others still recovering from illness. No Covid 19! Committee meetings have been held to put in place protocols of entry & activity when Government directions allow the Shed to reopen.
