21.01.2022 Focus on Faces Here is my portrait of the lovely @gracefleming - photographer, eco-warrior, animal lover, vegetarian, nutritionist and personal trainer. She was happy for me to use her facial features to explore the tension... between the facial expression we observe and the thoughts that are hidden in the background. I love reading people! It's a challenge to capture the essence of a person, rather than making it perfect. If the facial features are skewed too much, it can look like a completely different person. When you're an author with a paintbrush, you can create whatever story you like, but you're never in control of how it is interpreted......

19.01.2022 FOCUS ON ANIMALS I love most animals; I'm obsessed with their expressive eyes, personalities, you can't beat their trusting, unconditional love and want to protect their fragility & vulnerability. This was a bit of fun for teaching kids about collage..... a form of mixed media art created by sticking different materials such as scraps of ribbon, papers & fabric on to a background............and painting over the top.

07.01.2022 Faces I like painting women that have more to them than their appearance! This one looks fierce. When you're an author with a paintbrush, you can create whatever expression/emotion you like but you're never in control of how the viewer will perceive it......

07.01.2022 My obsession with painting flowers started 17 years ago because I found them empowering. I remember the exact moment well because it was 2003 and I had breast cancer. My soul-less hospital room was full of vibrant-looking and sweet-smelling flowers which had the opposite energy to the grim news that I had a high grade, 9.5cm tumour and a 35% chance of survival. ... Plus I'd just had my right breast hacked off as it had morphed itself into a 'weapon of mass destruction.' All that was left was a flat chest and a neat line of stiches. Those flowers helped me to realise that nothing in life is ever under control so it's easier to become a 'flow-er' & go with life's flow. To this day, I still love painting any kind of flower, in any style.

This style was from an online course; I enjoy learning new techniques and then incorporate them into the way I paint. I raffled it as an art prize. What do you do with your practice pieces?
