24.01.2022 Sometimes negativity around R U OK? Day comes up on social media because shouldnt this be the case every day? Much like other special days, for example, Mothers/Fathers day and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, it would be nice if we showed appreciation for our parents everyday or we supported awareness for breast cancer every day. But, our mental load (i.e. all the things we think about) is already high and its impossible to consider all of the things society t...ells us we should be thinking aboutdaily! Hello burnout anyone?! With so much happening in our lives, days like R U OK? Day are simply a gentle reminder for us to pause and reflect on not only on the well-being of those around us, but also checking in with our own well-being. R U OK?

24.01.2022 + : ? Anti-inflammatory foods contribute to reducing inflammation in the body which may help stave off (and perhaps even help manage) depression. These foods include: Eating a variety of vegetables- different colours and cooked in different ways... Fruit Wholegrains- oats, brown rice, wholemeal pasta, grainy bread, quinoa, barley Nuts and seeds Avocado Olive oil Oily fish- salmon, tuna, sardines Over the course of a week, aim to include a wide variety of these foods. #antiinflammatory #moodfood #dietitian #healthyeating #allinonehealth

23.01.2022 An interesting article shared with us from a follower in Western Australia! As a quick summary: In our attempts to be great parents (with a lot of judgement coming from other parents!) and trying to provide our children with a healthy diet, it can sometimes frame less healthy foods as "the forbidden fruit"- something highly desirable.... The result of this is that when given the opportunity to access these high value foods (think birthday cake, lollies at Halloween), some kids seem to eat uncontrollably! The article suggests a different approach: Giving children more regular opportunities to enjoy these foods without controlling how much they can have on theses occasions. The goal of this is that over time, children will: 1. Develop a better relationship with food (less likely to use as a reward or for comfort). 2. "Treat" foods will be less valuable because there is no fear that they may not have it again --> less likely to overeat it when they do have it. What are your thoughts? #dietitian #allinonehealth #divisionofresponsibility

17.01.2022 And finally, to round out our healthy bones week, Dietitian, Kayla, talks us through a group of people who are at risk of not getting enough calcium (and other nutrients from their diets). - People following a vegan diet need careful planning to make sure their bodies get all of the nutrients they need. -This is because a vegan diet removes whole groups of foods which are high in nutrients, like calcium. -These nutrients are often in lower amounts and harder to absorb from p...lant foods compared to animal products Check out this blog for every nutrient you need to consider in a vegan diet! www.allinonehealth.com.au/b/vegan-diets-the-dietitians-tips

14.01.2022 ? You need to lead by example and the best way to do this is to eat with your children. If children see you eating everything on your plate, they are likely to copy you and try everything on their plate.... Remember to eat slowly as this will give the children time to see you eat each item. Remain at the table during meal times and enjoy the relaxing family time. If you cant manage to eat your whole meal with your kids, try to at least have a very small plate with all the items that your kids are eating.

14.01.2022 Flat feet (termed pes planus) is a very common concern for parents in their children from a young age. For a lot of children, having flat feet can be considered normal and very much a part of their normal development.... Occasionally, however, flat feet can be a sign of an underling issue. Common causes of flat feet in children include: Normal child development and growth Joint hypermobility Structural (bone) deformity Soft tissue (muscle) deformity Low muscle tone / muscle spasticity ? If you are concerned about your childs feet or development then we would recommend making an appointment to see our Podiatrists. We recommend that if your child is frequently complaining of sore feet, or has a history of tripping/clumsiness, then having a Podiatry review may be beneficial. ? Absolutely not! At All in one health we pride ourselves on providing the most evidence based treatment, and in the case of children with flat feet, a lot of the time treatment is not necessary. A general foot check is always good to just make sure there are no small concerns with your childrens feet. Our Podiatrists are available five days a week, Monday to Friday, and conveniently till 7:30pm on both Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you have any questions about whether we would be able to help, please dont hesitate to call us on 5499 0345!

13.01.2022 . Understand the role all foods play in our diet. Educate your child that there are sometimes foods and everyday foods, explaining that the difference between them is that everyday foods are full of different nutrients that help take care of our bodies so that we can think clearly and function properly to play, where as sometimes foods are made by companies to offer different textures and tastes however these foods lack those really important nutrients... therefore you can enjoy them sometimes. If there is someone in your family with different health needs such as coeliac disease, explain to your children that even though everyday foods provide nutrients and can be enjoyed by most individuals, sometimes peoples’ bodies react differently to different nutrients as everyone is unique. This can mean that an everyday food needs to be substituted so that they can still enjoy the range of nutrients while caring for their bodies.

09.01.2022 Winter tips Comment below on the areas of your life that you could improve on

09.01.2022 Wondering where our stepping has got us? We are now at a combined total 1,287,107 steps (or around 900km). This means we have:... 1. Reached Mackay in Queensland 2. Zoomed past Mt Vesuvius in Pompeii to a small town called Latina in Italy 3. Nearly arrived at Currawinya National Park (or nearly 1/4 of the way across Australia) See more

09.01.2022 + : ? Pro-inflammatory foods not only contribute to inflammation in the body, but also don’t nourish your gut bacteria. These are two factors which contribute to depression. Pro-inflammatory foods include:... Foods high in refined carbohydrates: the white flour used in making cakes/biscuits, white bread, sugary drinks, lollies/chocolate Foods high in saturated fats: processed/fatty meats (sausages, salami), butter/lard, coconut oil, cream, visible fats in meat, skin on chicken, baked goods high in butter (pastries, cakes/biscuits) Foods high in trans fats: fried foods Healthy eating is about balance. There is no need to completely avoid these foods, but we aim to tip the balance of our choices towards the healthier foods. #moodfood #healthyeating #dietitian #proinflammatory #antiinflammatory

09.01.2022 Movember is almost over, so don’t forget to show us your amazing moustaches for your chance to go on our Mo’ Wall of Fame!

08.01.2022 At an average step of 70cm, our team's total step count has us walking: Just past Miriam Vale OR... 08.01.2022 Let's Celebrate World Diabetes Day!! The theme this year (very fittingly) is: Nurses Make the Difference. There's a lot of misunderstanding around the causes and management of diabetes. It can be overwhelming and mentally exhausting, so making sure you have a great support team (with a care nurse, diabetes educator, GP and dietitian) can make the difference!... Find out your risk of type 2 diabetes here: https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/risk-calculator Here is a beautiful video from 2015 that breaks down some myths and stigma around diabetes. https://youtu.be/jjNbzaJuquU

08.01.2022 AAAANNNDD they're off! Step-tember has started ! ... Get behind your pick- your support will definitely make us more competitive! 6 !

08.01.2022 Be considerate of your child without catering to them. Ensure that there is at least one food at the table that your child always or sometimes eats. Studies show that it can take children up to 32 steps to accept a food, from seeing the food for the first time, tolerating the food on the plate, touching the food, smelling the food, licking the food all the way to chewing and swallowing the food.... So, try new foods 1 at a time and let the child become familiar with the food at their own pace. Once you acknowledge this process, understanding your childs food-related behaviour is easier. See more

07.01.2022 A big thank you to the Beachmere Slimmers group for having our dietitian, Kelly, come out to chat! We LOVE getting out of the office and into the community. 04.01.2022 As a parent you decide what is plated on your child’s plate however always let the child decide how much they eat. Set a rule that what is placed on the plate remains on the plate and doesn’t get chucked or thrown (this can be a process depending where your kid is in the acceptance stage) and let them choose how much they consume of the meal. This fosters your childs understanding of fullness and independence. This is also a great strategy to use to increase a childs acceptance of new foods.

02.01.2022 ? This can be as simple as taking seeds out of watermelon every-time you have it, commenting that you dont want watermelons to grow in your belly. Or stating that you dont enjoy wasting time cooking a meal. You don't have to eat everything, rather be aware of your actions and behaviours around foods as this impacts your childs opinion.... Make meal-time fun and involve your children to help prepare meals. Comment positively about foods such as the colours of the dish are as pretty as a rainbow, or I can smell it is going to be flavoursome by adding those fresh herbs.

02.01.2022 Dads are ordinary guys Turned by love into: Elegant princesses at tea parties Adventurers on a quest to conquer dragons Coaches of the footy team... Story-tellers and terrible joke makers Fixers of toys And of course a cheeky Dad joke: Due to the quarantine, I'll only be telling inside jokes. Here's to all the great Dads out there!

02.01.2022 . A few months ago my daughter came back from day care stating that she couldn’t eat seeds anymore as they would grow in her belly. Childrens minds think of thing literally so rather than telling children stories, thinking that this will encourage them to eat, rather keep to the facts and assist their learning. One day the child will learn the truth and this will only reduce their respect to you. I had to explain to my daughter that seeds were full of fibre which assist with keeping her full, giving her energy to play and assisting her stools to come out without pain. She is now happy to eat seeds again and couldn’t wait to tell her friends that they were wrong :’)

01.01.2022 Sometimes negativity around R U OK? Day comes up on social media because shouldn't this be the case every day? Much like other special days, for example, Mother's/Father's day and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, it would be nice if we showed appreciation for our parents everyday or we supported awareness for breast cancer every day. R U OK?

01.01.2022 ? The biggest thing to question is, what are your attitudes around this meal and how do you talk about food? Kids learn from their role models and as parents, we are the biggest role model our children can have. :... Are you eating the foods you want your children to eat? Are they familiar with these foods? Do you comment on or act negatively towards food or meals? What portion are you providing your child? Do you bribe your children with food? Is the eating environment distracting? Is the child hungry? There are many things that we as parents can do that, without noticing, is causing our child to refuse certain foods. Over the next few weeks, we are going to discuss each of the above points in further detail. Follow All in One Health socials to stay informed or come in store and visit our friendly dietitians for more information.

01.01.2022 We're up to week 3 in Steptember and the top place has changed hands again! Our top three are now: 1. Jarrod 2. Alyce... 3. Rachael No doubt it will be a fierce battle right up until the last hour for the top place! Keep it up team, we're nearly there!!
