17.01.2022 I’d like to say it was my green thumb but alas I am the cooker of our bounty and my partner is responsible for how fantastic they are. Fresh picked Asian greens (pak choi) and baby English spinach. The larger leaves have been plucked from the edges as the plants continue to burst forth their luxurious leaves! This is what we have been doing in lock down. Getting our green thumb on :)

16.01.2022 ? Our body runs on required vitamins and nutrients. Our digestive system runs on required balanced bacteria to function properly. When I had all my bloods tested in December and lung function done in January things were reasonable but I could have been better.... I am notoriously low in Vitamin D, even though I spend time outdoors. So given my results were only a 1 notch above badly deficient I was told to take Vitamin D. Great for the immune system but also great for mood. Given the huge amount of antibiotics and prednisone I was on my poor guts are still struggling to be normal. SO I am currently taking a multi-strain probiotic and some gut rebuilding powders with specific fibres and amino acids to support the mucous lining in my gut and lungs. Every other day I am taking a multi-vitamin. Because although I cook all my meals at home I am concerned about the vitamin content if they are stored, canned or frozen. What supplements are you taking and why?

16.01.2022 Kick start your Spring Detox with my Top 4 Simple Steps #1. Hydrate with more water Did you notice when you drink more water you feel better? Water helps your body to run better and will even help you to lose weight. Water will help give you a beautiful, youthful glow too. Make sure that you don’t just chug it all at once. Grab a water bottle and keep it with you throughout the day. This will make it that much easier for every cell to keep itself clean, and it will be so be...Continue reading

15.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day This year’s campaign has been developed with the aim of challenging negative perceptions around mental illness and encouraging people to take a more positive view. You can support the campaign by making a #MentalHealthPromise like the ones I have listed below.... Number 1 is my favourite. For someone like me who is a chatterbox, you will be surprised to hear that my listening skills around your health and wellbeing are on point. If you are struggling with anxiety and other areas of your mental health, along with counselling and therapy it is important to look at what you are eating (or not eating) and how well (or if) you are sleeping and exercising. If you would like to book a free call to see how a consultation with me might help then drop me a message here

14.01.2022 WOW what a year we all have had .. and it doesn't look like it's letting up just yet either does it? Dealing with burnout or being overwhelmed are both consequences of high amounts of stress. With overwhelm, you might be experiencing stress for a long time, which leads you to becoming overwhelmed with everything you are thinking and dealing with at the same time. Burnout is similar, though it is typically when you become so exhausted mentally and physically, then it can affe...ct your work, motivation, and energy. Join Amanda in Burnout Bunker group to catch up on all the info, hints and tips related to stress and how it affects you physically and emotionally.

14.01.2022 How are you all doing today? Have you taken time today to check in on your mental health? Regular mental health checks play a big part in your well-being.... Regular physical health tests, like blood tests, can catch issues early before they become serious. The same theory applies to your mental health. We’re all guilty of waiting until we’re in a lot of pain to be motivated enough to get help But If we don't seek help sooner, our mental health problems start showing up in other parts of our lives which makes things a whole lot harder to manage Sometimes we might not even realize that our mental health issues can affect our physical health. Checking in on your mental health can be a simple task - take a moment and assess how you’re feeling on a scale of zero to 10 Or it can be more general like the examples in this post How good have I been feeling lately? You may have specific indicators, for example, you may have noticed that you become more impatient at work or with your children. Or others may notice they’re finding it harder to fall asleep. For those new to mental health checks, online tests can help guide this process. They usually feature lists of questions around your sense of self, resilience and enjoyment of life. Just like taking your multivitamins, I believe that mental health check-ins should be something we do every day. It could be before bed, when you’re brushing your teeth in the morning or when you’re having your breakfast. Tying the check in to a daily task acts as a reminder to assess your mental health. Was this helpful? Let me know in the comments

13.01.2022 ? This step sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it? But, when was the last time you let your body freely flow in the form of thoughtless movement and pure joy? Too often, we create a workout routine which involves timed movement and scheduled routines. Having a workout routine is absolutely excellent for your health and for your mood because you are moving those needed endorphins to boost your mood. But- I really want you to freely mo...ve, freely dance, as if nobody else is around. Not only will you be releasing tension, but you will be having a good time! I love to dance around when I’m by myself because it releases tension, it isn’t timed, and I get to jam out to awesome music that by the end of my jam out session leaves me feeling fabulous and stress-free. Given the ability to play music while you are at home working ... what are some of the streaming links you are listening too?

10.01.2022 Looking forward to ageing gracefully and by practising what I preach!

10.01.2022 Every day in my clinic I see acute flare-ups of underlying skin conditions because of stress. So what am I doing on a Sunday might you ask? Welll ... I am attending this online all-day 3-part Dermatology seminar from 10-4pm! Thank you #MediHerb... For a thorough understanding of the structure and function of skin, skin ecology and the underlying drivers of common skin conditions, as well as clear clinical guidelines on managing these conditions. Our skin is our most obvious and prominent feature, and skin conditions can have a significant impact on confidence, self-esteem and mental wellbeing. Far from being a simple barrier, our skin is a complex organ that is a vital part of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. Skin conditions can be complex and difficult to treat, but natural medicine can be very effective when applied appropriately. Practitioner grade skin related treatment options are often available by attending an Acute Consultation, call Amanda to see if this approach may work for you. #skinhealth #acnetips #psoriasisrelief

04.01.2022 Is your common medication causing you to gain weight or struggle to lose weight during perimenopause or menopuase? This video by Fatima Cody Stanford, MD, MPH, MPA (Obesity Scientist) explains the role some commonly prescribed medications may lead to weight gain in women during menopause. It should be noted that hormonal changes associated with menopause already lead to weight gain. However, weight gain may be exacerbated with the use of several commonly prescribed medications which are discussed in this short video: Paxil/Aropax, Cymbalta, Depakote/Valoprate, Celexa/Citalopram, Effexor, Ambien/Stilnox, Lunesta/eszopiclone), gabapentin/Neurontin) and also the long term use of either prednisone or insulin.

If you know you already are heading that way .. or you are already there ... then you might like to join me in the Burnout Bunker and see what hints, tips and solutions are available to you to make your life easier.

02.01.2022 Something to think about

02.01.2022 ? Often called the "second brain" the gut is lined with millions of nerves and what research has uncovered is that the gut [enteric nervous system (ENS)] is actually composed of the very same tissue(s) as your central nervous system (CNS). Chemical "messages" go back and forth from brain to gut. Basically, your gut conducts an orchestra of neurotransmitters, hormones, and electrical impulses through what they call the Gut-Brain Axis.... Often signs and symptoms in the gut aren't food-related, they are brain-related. Such as butterflies in the stomach, having a gut feeling or maybe an incident is gut-wrenching. Because of this connection just eating the right foods will not keep the gut feeling balanced. This is where how your ability to cope with stress and trauma comes in so learning some simple meditation techniques is important. 1) Find a quiet space with fresh air and a good temperature to sit or lie comfortably. Some might acquire a meditation mat, chair or cushion. Make sure you won't be disturbed 2) Now close your eyes. ... 3) Breathe naturally, don't make an effort to control it. Just breathe as naturally as possible 4) Now try to focus attention on your breath. Feel how the body (lungs and diaphragm) move with each inhalation and exhalation. 5) Notice if you are breathing more with the chest area only (shallow breathing) or if you are also breathing using your diaphragm (deep or lowering breathing) 6) If you take your focus to the diaphragm and bringing the muscles in and out deeply this will also help your digestion by stimulating the natural motility of food through the digestive process A little as 10min a day is a great start ... so who is meditating today?
