18.01.2022 This is an X-ray of a 2 week old puppy, it really shows how far the bones have to grow before they become a proper joint! Puppy exercise is sooo importan...t as young dogs undergo significant physical changes. Most growth takes place between the ages of 4 to 8 months however, in some large/giant dog breeds the growth plates may remain open up to 18-20 months! There is no question that puppies LOVE to exercise & we want nothing more than to make them happy BUT puppy exercise limits MUST be applied to prevent damage to the puppy’s developing skeletal system. So here’s a guide to help; Over-training, such as long-distance running, is unhealthy for young dogs and the benefits are minimal. Some dogs are driven to exercise and, as owners, we feel we are doing them a service by giving them what they want... So... what is enough? Appropriate Puppy Exercise 0-6mths Walking slow, short walks up to 30 mins, with plenty of opportunities for your puppy to stop & sniff sniff sniff Formal skills training sit, stay, down, touch no more than 2 mins per session. Free play no more than 10 mins; discourage rough play, such as body slamming. Chasing objects roll balls and drag toys along the ground. Avoid repetitive ball throwing & chasing. Tugging do not pull against the dog hold the toy and let the puppy pull against you; keep the toy low, to maintain the puppy’s neck in a straight line with its back. Avoid direct running , jumping, indoor/outdoor stairs, fast turns, sudden stops like chasing a ball! Young puppies, up to six months, should not be exercised with the intent to increase strength or endurance. These puppies should be allowed to play naturally, i.e. self-directed play. Jumping is often encouraged, with little understanding of the damage it can cause a young pup. Do not allow your puppy up on high objects without good supervision and assist them when getting down. We hope you share this with all your friends, students & puppy owners - Let’s spread the word and make positive changes

17.01.2022 AMAZING WORK by Tony Nevin the Zoo Ost Ltd Great to see Animal Osteopathy on TV in the UK. Now time to bring it to Australia !!

16.01.2022 In this video we see: 1. An asymmetric rider? 2. An asymmetric horse? 3. A saddle slip?... As horse and human physios, we can see all 3. This footage was captured with our high speed camera, set at 400 frames per second, showing us in great detail what is occurring with this horse, rider and saddle. So how do we determine which is causing what - is it the horse making the saddle slip and the therefore the rider to be asymmetrical? Or is it an asymmetrical rider causing the saddle to slip and therefore making the horse move unevenly? Or is it a poorly fitting saddle that is causing the horse and rider to move in this way? You’ll likely get different answers from different people you ask! What this video highlights is the necessity to consider all 3 - the horse, the rider and the saddle. There continues to be more research coming out that investigates the horse-rider-saddle relationship, and while there is no definitive answer (as it’s not possible to independently assess horse and rider movement during riding), the conclusion is generally made that a comprehensive assessment factoring in all 3 contributing variables needs to be undertaken. This is where we feel that using objective measures, as we do with our biomechanical analysis, and utilising a team approach, (which may include vet, physio, saddle fitter, trainer/coach, farrier etc) is so important in order to optimise the connection and symmetry between horse-rider-saddle. #equinebiomechanics #riderbiomechanics #horsebiomechanics #horseriderphysio #saddlefit #equestrianbiomechanics #equestrianperformance #horseperformance

11.01.2022 . You already know what healthy food looks like. You know... processed foods aren't healthy. You know you feel better when you eat real food. You know you would never live on a packet food day in and day out because apparently it is all you need to "survive". You know the basics of what a natural diet of a dog looks like and you know that doesn't come from packet. You know healthy food improves health & well-being long term. You know healthy food improves mental outlook. Take a step back today and have a think about how we understand what a healthy diet looks like for us but somehow we ended up feeding completely the opposite to our dogs: Synthetic vitamins & minerals. Many kibbles are mostly plant matter with as little as 25% animal protein even some of the most expensive ones. You could be feeding a mostly Vegetarian diet to your dog. Cheap calories in large amounts from carbohydrates such as rice, sweet potato, potato & grains. High carbohydrates i.e. 20-60%, whereas a dogs natural diet is under 10%. Our fresh food pyramid is a only guide, just like in humans, there is no one way to consume a healthy diet, every individual is different and whilst something might be healthy, an individual may not be able to consume it for various reasons but professionals such as myself can help you find a way forward. Don't think you can afford to feed a healthy diet to your dog? Think again! This is just because you don't have the know how. I can make a balanced kilo batch for under $3! How awesome is that. Finding suppliers is the absolute key! Learn more about feeding a healthy diet to you dog at our supportive mostly Australian group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh/

02.01.2022 Animal Aid Shelter, Rajasthan, India - Dog Hydrotherapy

02.01.2022 Osteopathy Australia and The Animal Ozteo Interview - 2019: : ‘, ’ ... ?’ Animals truly are my greatest passion. I believe Osteopathy has a lot to offer all animals. Working for a vets practice came about after doing a home visit for a patient back in the UK. When I had finished, she told me her dog was also having trouble, so I decided to treat her dog too. After the dog went back to the vet for a retu...rn visit, he was apparently surprised at the dog’s improvement and it was then that I received a call to join his practice at Colne Valley Vets as an Animal Osteopath. Then in 2016, while travelling through India, I spent a few weeks in an animal aid shelter (Animal Aid Unlimited) in Rajasthan. They were helping treat injured street dogs, donkeys, goats and cattle. It was a shock to see the state they were in and incredibly tough to witness them in so much pain. I did what I could to help their mobility. A goat named Annabel is one that sticks in my mind. She had both her forelegs run over, but was the most loving animal I’ve ever encountered. I’ve since been told she has fully recovered which is a relief to hear. For me, there’s no greater feeling in witnessing improvement in the mobility and quality of life of an animal, and of course, humans too.
