25.01.2022 TWICE. . Twice I have attempted this soap and twice it has failed. The piping on the first one looked Bomb, but the base was not pretty. This one, I attempted piping it TWICE (first lot didnt set up right, second lot set up too fast) and now I just. . I just dont know at what point do you write off a design ... . I am plenty anxious about the cut. The soap is.... squishy. This does not bode well. BUT ITS ALSO KINDA EXCITING because when stuff fails, you learn, right? And there is only so much research you can do, and that lived experience is kinda priceless, in a way. . Possibly I need a drink. . So I can raise my glass and toast, to Squishy Soap! . 24.01.2022 I was so honoured to work on this special custom soap order for the birthday of a very special lady . (CW: infant loss) . The design brief was Yellow - her favourite colour; Peonies - her favourite flower; and Daisies, in honour of their daughter, born sleeping, named Daisy... . I have never seen a family have such an amazing and pure grieving process that they shared. It was not hidden, as so many mothers and fathers feel they must do. It was not unspoken. . There are a few amazing women in my life who have experienced this heartbreaking journey . Most feel silenced, and alone. . . I saw Amanda Palmers show There Will Be No Intermission earlier this year, and honestly, it was the first time I had heard anyone speak so candidly about all these issues affecting women, on such a large platform. Being the anxious type, the idea of losing a baby had utterly terrified me. Hearing Amandas incredibly candid but beautiful tale of a miscarriage transformed my fear, so that I actually felt, for the first time in my life, that if it happened to me, that it would actually be survivable. I wonder how many women do not feel that. . These strong women, and others like them, and their families - sharing their grief, sharing their stories, give light and hope to me, and also Im sure to many others out there who have experienced losing a baby, or fear it . 23.01.2022 So someone on Insta challenged Scott to make an Iron wand - and a seed like that is a hard one to dislodge . While he still wants to put a bit of a finish on it, this wand, made of Thunderbolt Iron, and with amazing balance (he says it was a fluke, but I disagree), features 3 different twists down the length as it transitions through shaft and handle, finishing with a twist in the tail . 17.01.2022 Well. . This is one of those ones Ill chalk up to a learning experience . The piping turned out waaaaaay busier than I had hoped - but I know why and how to improve it next time, so thats a plus. The inside also didnt quite get the pop i had hoped, but I have thoughts on that... . This was a design made by my 6 year old. She requested a dark base, with flecks of colour, to represent jewels in the darkness of a mine. For the top she wanted rainbow piping, with blue diamonds. I think i mostly got there, but if I redo it, I have plans . 16.01.2022 I have to say I was a bit dismissive of this soap to begin with. I regretted not making the base soap white, and it was quite translucent, a little yellow . But after it has cured, I have come back to it and I actually quite like it. The base has mellowed and is creamier, and the smell - a sweet, crisp apple fragrance, is absolutely divine . This one is super popular with my kids, who loved it all along, even when my own heart was traitorous ... . 15.01.2022 Blacksmiths Friend will be back in stock in a few weeks! . I think this is still my favourite. A Mechanics soap that isnt too aggressive on the pumice, but with a beautiful Lemon Tea Tree scent and rich in cocoa butter - it is amazing for the skin . Lemon Tea Tree is a pretty amazing essential oil. It is both antimicrobial and antifungal, and is believed to promote healing in the skin by encouraging scar tissue. Activated Charcoal draws toxins and grease/oil, and has amazi...ng cleaning qualities. Finally, the Cocoa Butter both nourishes and protects, leaving your skin feeling amazing . I made this one for my husband to replace solvol (which got bloody hard to come by, and I also wanted something more natural that would care for his skin). But it is so nice on the skin that I use it as a body soap, as do many customers. Not to mention a few ladies who work in a factory who swear by it for their hands. I have found it to be a great facial soap as well, with gentle application, and its done wonders when I have breakouts . So I am probably not going to be making painted wax melts in bulk (at least not any time soon) but I couldnt go past making my first test batch of Soy Wax Melts a little bit EXTRA. 04.01.2022 Fifty - thats right, fifty! - wedding favour soaps - cured, labelled, and about to be sent off! . Because apparently in Queensland you can still do things like have weddings and gatherings and I dont know, probably even *gasp* touch people . I realised I showed the top a while back but never got around to showing the cut. *cough* TADAAA!... . I really loved this project. The soaps are coloured in an ombr pattern using a caramel coloured clay and a touch of gold mica, and also dusted on top with the mica again for a hint of luxury in a wedding set to earthy tones. They feature Shea Butter, and a delightful Babys Breath fragrance, which I really like as it features hints of grapefruit, bergamot, tea leaf, jasmine, peach, lily, musk, amber, and balsam .
