25.01.2022 Malvina Reynolds is a hero and a really great example of a good songwriter: There's an interesting history behind Malvina which is worth checking out. Malvina wrote the music which became the theme for TV Show Weeds, and is often attributed tot he great Peggy Seeger. Thanks to Aussie Legend Margret RoadKnight for sharing this.

25.01.2022 Don't forget you can read all about our beautiful series at our website (built by 16th Floor Graphic Design). https://anotherwisequietroom.com.au/

24.01.2022 Here's a lovely podcast featuring Chloe & Jason Roweth, interview by Andy Busittil.

24.01.2022 Well Into Winter appeared at Newstead Live with The Northern Folk: and dropped in for a little field recording of An Otherwise Quiet Room.

23.01.2022 Corin Raymond's "One Fine Day" with Mandy Connell. Shot by Andi Isalie and recorded by Matt MacKay in the field. Edited by Bob Hutchison and Kerryn Fields. Filmed at the National Folk Festival 2018 for An Otherwise Quiet Room

23.01.2022 AOQR would like to thank the good people, musicians and venues, artists and writers for the work they do in standing up for human decency, institutional accountabilty, and in support of each other and the community at large- even those who have yet to learn empathy. We urge you to visit the ABC and other brilliant sources to learn a bit more about our Aussie history. There are a bunch of great sources of information and heaps of stuff published recently worth a listen. If yo...u like Spotify, Music Victoria did a deadly playlist of indigenous artists ('tho Spotify is problematic, no question) In honour of Reconciliation Week 2020 - with LTSU, SSA, MSA & City Campus AOQR would like to shout out to our indigenous brothers and sisters who have taken time out to perform and chat with u- and give a shout out to Benny Walker on the release of his new album #ChosenLine with artwork from John Patten. Here's a little of a duet from Benny Walker at the The Merri Creek Tavern. Catch the Full episode at our website or on our podcasting platform.

22.01.2022 Here's a clip featuring Moreland Sessions guest Kylie Auldist with The Bamboos. We love the little nod to Glenroy Football Club, and what a clip from Nick Rieve and Studio Kilogram. Another stunner from the legendary Lance Ferguson and Kylie Auldist.

21.01.2022 An Otherwise Quiet Room invited Kelly Skinner to talk about her role as Director of Newstead Live Music Festival. (January 2019) Skinner is a dedicated local artist- and while there is no music in this clip, the Festival Director is an accomplished flute player and trad singer. Newstead was originally held at Chewton, the first event in 2001, and it was the passion of Burke and Wills Vintner Andrew Pattison, who has run the Troubadour Stage at festivals and in venues for we...ll over 30 years. The very first artist on the Troubadour Stage was Paul Wookey. In 2007 the festival moved to Newstead, and has since grown into a larger event, featuring more local and regional performers, and is now run by a committee, partnerships forming with the local sports organisations and businesses continuing to strengthen the event and form new relationships within the community. Skinner was generous with her time and we thank her for speaking with us. Hosted by Mandy Connell, sound and film by Bob Hutchison Media.

19.01.2022 This is Teresa Dixon. She joined us at the Merri Creek Tavern for our series of four live shows. Big Thanks to all who came to support us live... We played a bunch of songs here- Into the Trees by Mandy Connell, Waves by Maddy May, Bring Me Little Water Sylvie (Attributed to Leadbelly) and a bunch of absolutely stunning songs from the brilliant Teresa Dixon- including Big River. 17.01.2022 Here's another cool thing to watch or stream in the background: Nice work The Saltwater Music Festival!

16.01.2022 Flashback to the Yarra Sessions- Here's Jane McArthur at Little Andorra- before the bar was properly set up! McArthur chose a cracker of a song from James Kenyon. His album Imagine You Are Driving is one of the very best to come out of the Northern Suburbs. It's a work of pure genius. Actually his video clips are pretty stunning too! Enjoy the Motorbike Song- another clip from an episode that was never fully published. We hope it will be, one day. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCdKOCbDQ6I You can get James' stuff over on Bandcamp or at his site. And Jane's stuff too. Her record, Ephemeralogica, is a strong favourite. Produced as a track recorded each month.

14.01.2022 We bring you this mini break from the wreckage of humanity in the media to say.... are super proud to (finally) present a new episode from the Newstead Live Music Festival filming in 2019. Thanks to the committee for all their hard work and to the charming Skip Gorman, Ms Philomena Carroll the musician, artist and touring whiz and also to Paul Wookey (Happy Belated 70th Birthday Paul). Stay safe out there in New Hampshire, Mr Gorman, and keep smiling your smile for those in ...need of song and cheer. Solidarity to those keeping up the fight for common decency. Love from us in Vic, Australia. Cheers to Bob Hutchison Photography for the video work on this one- and the audio! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI-m4xIBrhg&feature=youtu.be

10.01.2022 We have been so quiet lately: so here's a piece of really great work from Miguel Rios, featured by the fantastic folks at Rhythm Magazine. Miguel's upcoming release (Slaughterhouse Road) has been a long time coming, and we are excited to see the full release. For now though, check out 'Narcissist' via the Rhythms page. https://rhythms.com.au/miguel-rios-premieres-video-for-nar/

10.01.2022 Check out @Great Aunt as part of Newport Folk Festival 2020 | Online.... you can keep track of the videos as they go up by heading to the Newport Folk Festival Australia page.

06.01.2022 For two episodes of AOQR, Sarah Koschak opened the doors of her studio to host AOQR and our guests. Our published episode from this week, featuring Enda Kenny, was fillmed at Sarah Koschak Ceramics, at Newstead Live Music Festival in Jan 2019. We are so grateful to have a few kind words from Sarah about the positive benefits tof ahving the festival on local business. Sarah makes beautiful flatware and we were stoked to show off her work and her stylish shop. ... Thanks for having us! Hosted by Mandy Connell, Filmed, recorded and edited by Bob Hutchison for AOQR Newstead Sessions.

06.01.2022 Tonight there's a Shoelace Sessions event featuring one of our past guests: Well Into Winter. It is worth tuning in live to these things (although you can probs watch back later) for the sense of community you get. Participation- commenting, listening actively and sharing with mates- is really good for you and us. If you're missing mates and interaction, this is a really good way to get some. Well Into Winter is a brilliant artist, who's songwriting fits snugly in the warm y...oung Melbourne sound alongside Rowena Wise, Bec Sykes, and Little Wise.: and the production house which is Shoelace Sessions produces high quality videos from indie artists who you'll enjoy discovering. Go give both a like and a follow, and if you were wondering what to watch tonight on Netflix then give TV the arse tonight, get snuggled up with your favourite food and beverages, and TUNE IN TO THIS! See more

04.01.2022 Here's a flashback to our earliest series- the Yarra Sessions. Girl Friday joined AOQR at Oh! Jean Records with a beautiful tune by Jesse Younan. We hit trouble and this episode was never fully finished. We hope to get it done one day: This clip earned Friday and Connell a spot on a tribute show at the now exctinct Bella Union, where they discovered the song had previously been cherished by Khristian Mizzi, who later appears in the Moreland Sessions. The song was suggested ...to us by the good folks at Little Andorra, and we all adore it. Younan's stuff has been recorded by a plethora of great talent- including Jen Cloher, Abbe May, Lucie Thorne, and Jordie Lane. We strongly recommend the album from Vitamin Records, Take Something Beautiful- The Songs of Jesse Younan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKr5pLiTkxc

04.01.2022 We are very proud to release this clip, featuring two songs and an interview. Filmed by Bob Hutchison, Logo and Website creation from 16th Floor Designs.

03.01.2022 Here's a clip from a good friend of AOQR- Kerryn worked on the clips of Steve Poltz and Corin Raymond. We are big fans of Little Wise, working with KDOG Kerryn Fields here on an old Bob Dylan song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRR_N10Jt-Y

01.01.2022 Love Your Local #10 - Mandy Connell. Mandy Connell has a voice of startling honesty. There is no mistaking its tortured command and the strength of her presence. A prolific songwriter and collaborator, the former front woman for the Stray Hens presents a captivating solo show.
