18.01.2022 Some good news for farmers. The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy recently released that they have extended the waiver on annual water licence fees for another 2 years for water users in drought declared and disaster-affected areas through 2020-21 and 2021-22. Extra land rent relief for drought affected farmers is also available. More than 8,500 Queensland farmers and businesses doing it tough from the drought will have an extra year before having to pay thei...r state land rent, and half could also receive a discount. To be eligible for consideration, a recipient must be attending a school located in the Mareeba Shire, as a student, in the year of the award and use the Bursary for educational purposes.... Students interested in applying for the Bursary must provide a written statement (no more than 1 page) addressing the following: 1. Demonstrated commitment to pursue academic study (may include drama, musical theatre, the arts or sports); 2. Demonstrated commitment to showing a positive attitude and behaviour in all areas; 3. Has provided or is likely to provide significant contribution to the local community; and 4. Positive involvement in school activities. 14.01.2022 Mareeba State High School held a careers expo for their year 10 students on Thursday 17th. This was a great opportunity for students to talk to people working in trades and professions about their jobs and careers. Peter Apel was there, talking to the students about where a Law Degree can take them, and what a career in Law is really like. A very well behaved and interested group of students- our futures are in good hands.

It’s a great privilege to be part of an even that does so much good for the community. There are already a number of major renewable energy generating projects in the Far North, and each involves a Landowner where the project will be built.
