14.01.2022 Wood chippers (and brush chippers) are dangerous machines. Reducing the risk of serious injury is vital. Check out our pre-operational chipper video with our trainer, Julian Vickers. Wood chipper claims and incidents (circumstances and injuries) reported to WorkSafe over the last few years include:... Finger squashed between log and tray on back of chipper. Left index finger amputation. Lifting tree branches over barrier to be chipped. Torn ligament in shoulder/bursitis. Fell off the wood chipper when getting traffic cones off the top of chipper. Dislocated shoulder. Feeding a large branch into the chipper, pulling myself forward. Lumbar spine affected parts of neck, spine between shoulder. Loading branch into the chipper, end of branch hit worker in face. Groundy taking tree to chipper. Rope going into chipper and he grabbed it and tried to stop it and has been caught in rope and pulled towards chipper. Chipper was stopped by hitting emergency stop. Sustained rope burn, broken finger, lacerated forearm. Stiches to arm, head and hands. Woodchippers are inherently dangerous machines. Employers must identify hazards and control all risks in relation to their use. Ensure you and your staff are qualified with Arbortrims nationally accredited wood chipper training: FWPHAR2206 Operate a mobile chipper/mulcher 1 day course $300 per person Next course: Friday 22 November 2019 Call Rob on 0401 623 301 to book.
