22.01.2022 We are looking to raise funds for a 4 wheel, wheelchair adapted vehicle to use at APRDA. We have been using a 2 wheel carriage which was built many years ago and has been refurbished several times but now we really need to change. 4 wheelers are preferable for us as there is no weight on the horses back (as you can see from the photo of Pizzazz trying out a 4 wheeler). We are looking for any ideas to raise the $12,000 including sponsorship, donations and fund raising campaigns. If you would like to support us please contact our office, email or PM us. Thank you

18.01.2022 We have quite a few riders at APRDA who love dinosaurs so we thought we would have dinosaur week to look at these incredible creatures. Interestingly ( and spoiler alert) one of the most famous dinosaurs from Jurassic Park, the velociraptors were infact only the size of a turkey weighing it at as little as 7 kg. We hope you enjoy this week’s topic.

08.01.2022 Next week we are holding our second session for Horsemanship skills (week 6 Mon 16th - Sat 21st Nov) and the coaching staff and participants have come up with some new and exciting activities for all our participants to engage with. Some of the options for next week are: - Washing horses and ponies - Horse and pony makeovers - Natural horsemanship (round pen)... - Horses in hand (obstacle course / bush walk) - Lunging and training - Long reining Why are we holding horsemanship weeks? The reasons for engaging participants in these activities is to provide benefits for both our participant and our horses. With a large influx of new participants wishing to attend our programs, this has created an extremely long waitlist, therefore we need to look at ways we can offer more places in our programs while keeping our horses riding workloads at a manageable level and providing continuous support. What are the benefits to participants? Ground based activities give our riders the chance to practise a number of skills including gross and fine motor skills, empathy, experiential learning, problem solving and the opportunity to understand and predict horse behaviour from their own body language. These skills are enormously important for physical, social, and emotional development and give a different understanding of their mount from the ridden experience. It also allows our riders to practise calming behaviours and reduce impulsive tendencies as they are close up with a relatively large animal. The next horsemanship week will be in week 9 (Monday 30th Nov Saturday 5th Dec) If you have any questions, feedback or concerns please contact our office on [email protected] See you all next week See more
