22.01.2022 It's a veritable menagerie here at Ashdowns. Our cat Bruiser is quite wary of the lamb and the chicken as usual has no idea what's going on. And the lamb just wants more food and to frolic. ... Just another day at the B&B.

21.01.2022 Today's walk around Dover. Lots of people out and about enjoying the spring day. Lots of families too celebrating Father's Day.... Shout out to those doing it tough in isolation and lockdown and missing their dads. We're thinking of you

21.01.2022 Summer in the garden is a busy time. Busy harvesting all the fruit and vegetables that are coming into season. Most of the produce makes it into the meals we prepare for our guests.... Fresh is best.

21.01.2022 There's lots of pluses living in a fishing town and the abundance of fresh seafood is certainly one of them. Tonight we took one for the team and trialled what we're calling our Deluxe Seafood Platter. It's delicious!... Fresh Tasmanian crayfish served with Australian prawns, served on a bed of salad greens, tomatoes and cucumbers from our garden and augmented with olives and fetta cheese. Available in season for in-house guests. #seafoodplatter #rocklobster

19.01.2022 Yum! Platter for tonight's guests. Home made sushi rolls with salmon & chicken, various cheeses, fruits, crackers and home baked bread. As I say....yum!

19.01.2022 This little badge of honour is so precious to us. We're still absorbing the enormity of our achievement. We are both honoured and humbled that our two-man show is up there amongst the titans of Australia's Tourism Industry. It spurs us on to continue improving our services and to provide the best guest experience we possibly can.

19.01.2022 Our orphaned ram is 10 days old today and as you can see, he's quite robust. We're down to 5 bottle feeds a day (thankfully no more 2am feeds!). He's hanging out with the rest of the flock and slowly coming to the realisation that he's a sheep and not human.... So far, so good and may the good luck continue

19.01.2022 Went for a walk around Dover this morning and came across this lovely garden of snowdrops. Spring is definitely in the air when these little beauties are in bloom. Ahh Spring. Warmth, new life, hope.... Some of the things we need as we navigate our way out of this pandemic. We'll get there, I'm sure of it.

16.01.2022 This poor little dependent boy came into the world today and was regrettably rejected by his mother. Nature can be so harsh sometimes. We now have him in a little pen, are keeping him warm and feeding him every 3 hours.... That's right, every three hours even through the night We're trying not to get too attached because bottle feeding new borns is fraught with risks and it's 50/50 if he makes it. But he's so very cute #anyonewanttoadoptalamb

16.01.2022 Pandemic! Recession! Jobkeeper! Jobseeker! There's so much noise around us these days. Sometimes there's nothing for it but to take yourself to a quiet place, surrounded by nature, breathe deeply the fresh air and allow the world's noise to be drowned out by birdsong and the sound of the river babbling by. I know just the place.

16.01.2022 Tonight's guest meal: our take on the French classic, Steak Diane. Aged porterhouse steak cooked in a sous vide, served with thrice cooked pommes pont neuf, vegetables and of course, Diane sauce. Dessert is an orange & lemon olive oil cake served with poached pear, berries from the garden, ice cream and topped with crumbed, baked white chocolate. ... Now all that's left to do is to take a seat by the fire with a glass of local Tassie wine or cider.

16.01.2022 If only Sunday chores could be done in hyperlapse time!

14.01.2022 Our ewes couldn't have picked a better Spring day to start lambing. Topsy has introduced us to her twins that were born earlier this morning and another ewe had a lamb today as well. That means the rest of the girls will be lambing in the next few days and that means........ Lamb spam!

10.01.2022 When you're next driving down to Dover, make sure you stop and have a walk around the town of Geeveston. Lots of artisan's and shops to entice including Harvest and Light where you can have a delicious coffee while checking out the preserves, pickles and sauces made by Cassy as well as gaze upon some beautiful local artwork. Our favourite is the lime pickle

10.01.2022 I am not bonding with him. I am not bonding with him!

09.01.2022 The lengths we go to to bring you content! It was absolutely freezing this afternoon at Arve Falls Track but worth it for the first and probably only big snow dump of the season. Winter ain't over yet!

09.01.2022 It's blossom season! In addition to the beautiful golden wattle trees currently in bloom, fruit trees and ornamental fruit trees are letting us know that warmer weather is just around the corner. And do you know what's next?... Lambing season!

09.01.2022 This season's first strawberries from our garden. I hope there'll be a glut that we can turn into jam. However I have my doubts this handful will make it anywhere near the jam pot.... #getinmabelly

08.01.2022 He's cute, but I'll be glad when night time feeds are over.

08.01.2022 We had a bumper autumn harvest of fruits this year and a lot of time to make jams, jellies and preserves. You'll always be served home-made jam with breakfast at Ashdowns of Dover hosted B&B. And you'll never leave hungry.

08.01.2022 And to think, only 4 short days ago we were in the snow throwing snowballs and building a snowman. Winter in Tasmania is all things and it's one of my favourite seasons. Oh, who am I kidding? I love every season in Tassie!

06.01.2022 It turns out, Gary is fluent in lamb. They were having a good ol' chat when Gary introduced our ram lamb to his new overnight lodgings. Complete with heating.

04.01.2022 Evenings down by the river are so peaceful. Did you know that in the height of summer it's still light at 9pm to 9.30pm in southern Tasmania? Sitting down here with a glass of something, hoping to see a platypus or wallaby and definitely watching and listening to the myriad of birds coming home to nest is the best way to see out the day.

03.01.2022 Our goal is to provide our guests with an experience that exceeds expectations and reviews let us know if we're achieving that goal or have more work to do. Reviews; good or bad help us improve. So sincere thanks to all our previous guests who've taken the time to leave a review.
