07.01.2022 .::Spirituality at the end of life::. Spirituality can be very important to a terminally ill person at the end of their life, even if they do not follow a relig...ion. Some people may experience regret, unfulfillment, anxiety and fear. They may also worry about unresolved issues with family and friends or feel sadness about leaving loved ones and fear of being alone when death comes. Spiritual practice helps one to feel better during difficult situations in life. Spiritual practice such as that of 'Chanting the Name of God’ is such that can be done even when one is bedridden, terminally ill or in coma. Chanting helps create an impression of God's Name in our subconscious mind and after sometime, it begins to happen naturally like breathing. For a person in vegetative state or coma, the subconscious mind is still active and the spiritual practice of chanting can continue internally. However, it is very difficult to start spiritual practice when one is terminally ill and suffering and impossible to start when in coma. Hence, it is very important to develop the habit of chanting the Name of God when healthy. Additionally chanting increases our tolerance to emotional or physical pain, reduces our fear, and makes us more capable to resolve all life-issues in a calm manner with a spiritual viewpoint. Spiritual practice also helps us reduce our personality defects and develop Divine qualities such as acceptance, contentment and faith that 'God is with me no matter what.'
