25.01.2022 ATTA EARLY BIRDS TT - 1 DECEMBER 2020 Well, the weather forecast was spot onthe breeze did rise a bit. Luke wasn't about to complain about the conditions, he just wasn't too impresed with his new team bike and its seat-post collapse; MattB didn't make any comment about it that I could hear. But, at least for the couple of laps Luke did complete, a few observers had a good lesson in dead-turn skills.... The most notable 'battle', one we hadn't anticipated, was the one we saw between the youngest rider on course, Campbell McDowell, and the slightly older Chloe Dal Passo. Campbell had a lap completed when Chloe began and it was 'on' for the next few laps until Campbell finally got clear for his final, quickest lap and a PBthe best of the day. Rachael Wales joined in the BIP competition today and grabbed the top points on offer but Teneal was right there with her and Steff only a few seconds away. Steff, of course has a bit of advantage at this stage, being able to discard her two least successful rides if she continues to ride all events. Wanda Jansen will, no doubt be aiming to discard today's score that was somewhat sullied during lap 4 when her bib number belt came loose and tangled in her bike. She lost over a minute on that lap and, until that point, was on track for a PB; she remained sanguine. Nicholas Connan again had to take on the role of trouble shooter when the occupants of a van with trailer in tow, parked in the carpark overnight, woke up and decided to leave. Nicholas managed the situation perfectly. He had to leave Debra Rho to manage the desk on her own for a while but she could manage that; Lou Rho was across the road doing his now-familiar job of bib caller/recorder while Lorraine and Cathi were the start team. Steve Oates had set up the course, had a ride before he packed it down again and, in the meantime the Lovekin barriers were manned firstly by Steve himself and Lachlan Connan, then Gregor McNab and Lachlan with Mark Lommers at the other (UWA) end. Thank you all once more. Race report by Peter Meyer

23.01.2022 December 2015 was the last ATTA time trial Jai Hindley rode, in a field of champions. All the best from everyone at ATTA for the race of truth today Jai. #Giro

22.01.2022 RACE REPORT - BIRDS IN THE PARK ON CUP DAY There are always a few rough edges to rub down at the first event of the series but, despite the things Murphy tried to test us with, we coped fairly well. Quite a few first time riders were able to establish benchmarks for the coming six rides and, despite the greyness of the skies, the riding conditions were pretty good: the flag wasn't flapping and the road was dry. Finlay McRobbie has found a lot of speed in the past year and ...easily topped the PB rankings with his 3km/h and Kerina Puttman was almost 1km/h faster than her best of the previous series and looks set to move up a BIP group. Steff VanA grabbed the maximum BIP points for the morning and Busso 70.3 champion, Matt Burton begins this series 0.4km/h faster than his average for the previous one. But who knows what Oliver Bleddyn might have done if he'd kept his chain on the sprockets; he seemed a tad frustrated at the finish. My bib-caller for back-up timing, Lou Rho, slipped easily into the role and we readily overcame Murphy's attempt at sabotage with a few transponders calling 'quits'there was no chance for complacency to set in there as the first passing of the timing loop set the scene. Lorraine was back in the starter's chair and being fed riders by Cat Dixon; Phil Deisel and Craig James manned the barriers and were sorely tested by rogue bike-riding commuters, not to mention a bunch of runners who, at least kept off the road; Rachel Deisel and Karen Oakes discovered the joys of greeting riders at the rego desk and Steve McKiernan jumped in to do the course set-up and pack-down when we were desperately looking for someone for job. He also managed to slip in his own five-lapper and will be looking to improve on his PB tally from the last series (4/6, the best of the series for the blokes). A post-event visit to the Zamia was very welcome before some more number crunching. And so it goes

21.01.2022 RACE REPORT - CHAMPION LAKES 12 JULY 2020 There's no slowing in the Freebs/Burton challengeMatt regards that record as rightfully HIS and went out and made sure he reclaimed it today. And, in doing so, Matt went so very close to the sub-six-minute lap he's also been chasing. Talking of 'chasing', Craig Wiggins also jumped into the mix today and was the rabbit for both Michael and Matt. He held Michael off for three and a half laps and claimed a spot on the podium. Both Crai...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Race report - early Bird Series round 2 Lou Rho certainly earned his stripes today as the back-up-timing bib callerthere were plenty of distractions and adjustments to be made on the fly during a busy session to test our focus on routine matters. But it was nice to see the BIP numbers creep back to the 40-mark and a nice number of PBs being posted1 in 4 is a pretty good rate. It was even nicer to see riders like Wes Opie and Scotty McDowell claim PBs their involvement wi...th ATTA and the Early-birds goes back a long time, each of them having now posted over 40 EB rides. Tom Gardner is another of the original Old Hairy Legs mob from UWA and now has just over 60 EB rides to his credit and this year's times are well within range of his PBs from the last series, so we're likely to see more from him too. Steff again came up with a PB to keep Amanda's challenge for the maximum BIP points at bay; she makes it look effortless. Malcolm Miller manned the desk once it was delivered by Gregor McNab who did the course set-up and pack-down for us this time; Lorraine and Cathi were the start team; and Phil Deisel and Andy Candy were at either end barriers doing their best to prevent rogue incursions onto the course. But what can you do to curb the arrogance, lack of respect and wholly unjustifiable sense of entitlement of some people? And this was the largest field we've had riding in Kings Parkafter almost 160 events. Race report by Peter Meyer

19.01.2022 EARLY BIRDS TT - 5 JANUARY 2021 Only one ride in the series to go now: in two weeks time and it'll be a 6:00am start, five minutes later than we've been until now. It's not that we're heading into winter in any hurry but the sun is getting lazy and taking longer to get above the trees. And today even saw a few people looking for jackets, given the breeze that was blowing; again. But today it stayed to the end of the event. All the same, there was a jump in the number of PBs p...Continue reading

14.01.2022 RACE REPORT - CHAMPION LAKES SEASON OPENER 2020/21 We had quite a relaxed 'ambience' down at Champion Lakes today, the start of out thirty-third season, and could fill in quite a bit of time deleting a very long list of names from the timing sheet folk who had sent messages through to say: 'nope'. By the time that was finished, from an initial list of 168 who, at some stage thought they might ride, we were down to sixty and then there were another thirteen who were simply '...no-shows'. But the forty-three riders who did ride in damp, but otherwise OK conditions, seemed happy enough. And yes, there is a list of PBs; the first finisher, young Oscar Barratt was the first to post one and he was definitely very pleasedfirst unchaperoned ride too. There was an interesting tie for the Para- honours between Neil and Hayden and a nice mix of rider categories through the rankings. And we had a great mob of helpers: Heather Connan and Debra Rho were the faces behind the desk; Nicholas Connan was today's starter with Angie McRobbie to assist and keep me updated with start-time changes (there were a few, not surprisingly). Olivia McIntyre called and recorded numbers for the back-up timing (once again flawlessly). Sofia Erhard looked after the bridge crossing and down at the southerly limits Michelle and daughter Althea kept things in order. Once again Iain and Lorraine MacLennan had set up and packed away the course. We didn't have anyone to spare for the exit today but, fortunately only one first-time rider followed a finishing rider back across the island, posted a two-minute Lap 1 time and opted for a restart. Now, to dry out a few bits of gear before Tuesday morning, recharge a few batteries and have another cup of tea

13.01.2022 "THE GENTS" OCTOBER 2020 RACE REPORT It's possibly a good thing we don't have people riding in gorilla suits (or similar) in the old tradition of the 'Gents'there are enough categories already! But it was very nice to see a few faces we haven't seen for quite a long time amongst a fairly large number of first-time-ridersPaul Measey for one, back to enter his 150th result in the ATTA database. It was a fine morning: the first two pairs in the rankings EACH bettered the not-s...o-old course record that we thought was going to last for much longer; still, four years isn't bad and Freebs was one of the previous owners and the other, Chris Glasby, was the fastest of the 'Solos' today. And Andrew Ballam and Amanda collected the 'Mixed-team' record and possibly Matt Connan and Calum Milne collected a Junior pairs record but I'll need to check that out. Regardless, they rode an impressive PB. It is a long list of PBs above (47) and even though the breeze was 'officially' light, it clearly did make the return journey a minute or so more satisfying than the outward one. Lorraine was back with us today (with her new shoulder) to look after the start with Cate Wray to marshal the starters while simultaneously directing traffic into and out from the carpark. And, once again, Heather Connan was the girl behind the desk. Alex Cairndeff and Steve Oates set up the course and Iain MacLennan and Paul Williams then looked after the turn and collected the intermediate times. Amos dispensed his excellent brew. So there we leave 'Season 2019-20'; we didn't do too badly really, did we?

10.01.2022 We are currently looking for a number of volunteers for upcoming events and it would be great to share the load. Roles include managing the registration desk, marshalling on a corner, or assisting at the start or finish line. At Champion Lakes you can share a role with a fellow rider, allowing you both to ride. Put your name (or a family members or friends or your coach!) down here; Good Friday, 2 April: Champion Lakes https://atta.asn.au/forms/marshal.php... Easter Monday, 5 April. 10.01.2022 RACE REPORT - CHIDLOW 27km - 7 DECEMBER 2020 Brady Gilmore wanted an early start for his first 'Hilly' with ushe's used to the flatlands around Kalgoorlie; not that we offered him mountains around Chidlow as an alternative but there are certainly a few uphill bits: 'Needham's needle' is one. Anyway when he powered past the finish line less than 40min from his start, he was in for a long wait to see his time bettered. In fact we, at the finish were in for a fairly long wait u...ntil another rider came past, but then it was a constant trickle (intermittent stream?) although they all looked, and were quick after cresting that final climb and putting on a sprint for the 300m along the flat to the flag. And it was the last man to start, Stu Helm who, not surprisingly, was the bloke to jump to the top of the rankings with a 0.58km/h improvement to his previous best speed around the circuit. Wanda had signed up her father for this event and we possibly, quite unwittingly of course, provided her with a handy target to chase. Anyway she assured us she had given Tertius plenty of encouragement as she passed him on her way to a PB. Last year's FT, David Thompson and Colin Rose each achieved significant PB milestones when they passed the 40km/h mark for this course. And Colin also came out on top of the Rose/Glasby challenge this time, with both the Standards AND raw time honours, even though Chris also posted a PB. This ride had at least one other quite notable achievement: the first time we've not seen a single 'No-show'; yes we had a number of scratchings but our desk manager, Rachel Thompson could actually afford to nip around to the start without being concerned there were riders, unaccounted for at that point, who might suddenly turn up. Lorraine was our starter; Paul Loring was the man marshalling the first corner while further down the road, John Helm pointed riders in the direction of Needham's Needle, and thence, further on, to our intermediate timing point, where Mark Taylor had sacrificed a ride to make sure no-one missed the turn into Breeze Rd and headed off to Toodyay or Gidge. Iain and Lorraine MacLennan had set up the course and I had the assistance of young Oscar Barratt keeping the bib tally while he waited for Tom to finish his ride. Thank you alla memorable morning. The PBs Table (in km/hr) 1 David Sofield 1.54 2 Vern Merchant 1.34 3 Steve Oates 0.86 4 David Thompson 0.78 5 Stu Helm 0.58 6 Wanda Jansen Van Vuuren 0.26 7 Darren Wright 0.23 8 Colin Rose 0.18 9 Chris Glasby 30.16 10 Gregor McNab 0.05

10.01.2022 RACE REPORT - SERPENTINE 40, 22 NOVEMBER 2020 Riders love to hate Hopeland Roadnorth or southand, yes there were complaints today. The loudest was, in fact, coming from Neil McDougall's bike and you could hear it coming from the turn out of Rowe Rd, about 1500m away. But I was personally surprised and thought the road upgrade was just that: a considerable improvement, nice and wide, potholes gone and lacking the loose aggregate that covered it the last time I saw it, follow...Continue reading

10.01.2022 RACE REPORT - PANTHER CUP AUGUST 2020 There was a record number of scratchings but only six 'no-shows': and the field was reduced by 50% Logan Calder showed the same sort of form we were used to when he previously rode ATTA events and, showing the CX riders what can be done on a MTB, now has custody of the Panther for the next twelve months at least.... Quite a lot of work went into the production of this event and a great many thanks are due to the people who did that work: David Equid and Kim Van A had sussed out the course and done the necessary preliminary stuff like permissions and hiring of dunnies for the anticipated cast of thousands. Colin Rose took on the starter's task, assisted by Olivia McIntyre; Jo Blacker and Marcel Weijers kept the rego desk in order; John Andrews and Paul van der Walt were kept busy managing traffic through the roundabout that separated the start and finish and we were also fortunate to have Angie McRobbie to assist there it was a busy place for a couple of hours; Travis George was my caller for the back-up timing and our first-aid person, Michelle Young, fortunately only had to deal with one calamity: Hayden Long who came to grief on his last lap, lost a bit of skin (and time, perhaps) but cleaned up quite nicely and still collected the Para points! Iain MacLennan marshalled up at the 'top' of the course and Damien Wyer has a heap of his usual great pics to share with everyone very soon. John Healy had organised the help roster.

07.01.2022 RACE REPORT GIDGE A HILLY TT - 15 NOVEMBER 2020 I've always been able to gaffer-tape the timing loop to the tarmac on this Gidge course, but not todaytoo damp after the overnight rain. Still, the conditions for riding weren't too bada very brief shower for the last couple of finishers and plenty of sunny periods. But there were a couple of slippery corners and Stuart Murray managed to come to grief on one of them, which made a bit of a mess of his time but, fortunately, not... himself, and he completed the course but not with the PB that was looking a certainty at the time. Adelia lost even more time on her first lap when she overshot the turn into the Stoneville big-dipper. And first-timer, Andrei Navalov, somewhat unsure of the local geography or just eager to hand back his number, did a brief excursion through the carpark before crossing the finish line. It added a minute or so to his time and a few places on the rankings but provides a great opportunity for a big PB when he returns for Hilly 5 in February. First man off, Mathew Connan, has finished his final school exams and was on a high intensity return-to-training-day. He flew through his two laps with a 1min+ PB but didn't hang around to savour the accomplishment because he headed off to the Rockingham crit. He would have needed to wait for the final few finishers to see his ranking slip, but only by one spot, when Stu Helm powered home. Not too far down the list, Steff VanA had to give 'best' to Rachael Wales today but not by much, and both of them posted PBs. Kerina Puttman added another PB to her growing collection: this one almost 3min. Colin Rose was back to collect yet another #1 Standards ranking. When Rick Churchill fronted up to the start line just before 8:15, he reckoned it was time for an afternoon kip. He and Kim VanA had been busy since 5:30 signing the course, made an order of magnitude more difficult this time by MRWA insistence that we reduce the speed limit down the Toodyay Rd section of the coursenot a great distance but a lot of extra signage to put in place; and collect again at the end of the event. Big thanks, fellas. Simone Wright was the person greeting people as they 'signed on'; while Lorraine was back again in the Starter's chair; Dave Nangle and Iain MacLennan controlled the entrance of riders onto Toodyay Rd, while further around the course, John Andrews and Joe Grasso looked after the intersections either end of the Anketell-Mildura Rd segment of the circuit. It all seemed a good start to another Hilly series. Race report by Peter Meyer.

06.01.2022 We are looking for some helpers for the remainder of the Early Birds TT series in Kings Park on Tuesday mornings. Nominate here! 06.01.2022 RACE REPORT - CHAMPION LAKES 2 AUGUST 2020 mutter, mutter it was a very brisk morning but pretty calm except for the activity around the events path. Matt-and-Michael took a break and left it up to the lads to set the pacebut Stu, Patrick, Chris and Colin were, of course up there, keeping an eye on things. Colin reclaimed the Standards honours but Chris still has the edge in speed. Another in that category grouping, Chris Roberts was out there, celebrating his 300th ride i...n an ATTA event; and like those others, not getting appreciably slower. Steff is never content to rest on her laurels, so added another half-kilometer to her speed and another PB. There is again a greater proportional representation of women in the PBs list than blokes. There might have been a greater proportion of PBs overall, given yesterday's conditions, but there were a lot of first-time riders; so there's lots of opportunity for next time. Andrew Bannister leaped to the top of the Para's table, just displacing para-Olympic team candidate, David Bryant. AS always, thanks to the 'staff' for another great morning's work: Heather Connan did a fantastic job, single-handedly coping with the desk for most of the morning; Lorraine and Nicholas sent off the biggest field we've had for a long time (only three 'no-shows' today and a few late withdrawals substituted by reserves); Cathi and Debra managed the southern borders and Tom called and recorded bib numbers on a morning when a number of transponders were objecting to the cold and bib numbers were rendered invisible by owner's extra clothing. Rick Churchill and Sally set up and pulled down the course. Camilla did a stint on the exit so new riders in particular could find their way back across the island. And Amos' hot drinks were very welcome.

06.01.2022 Sunday 10 January 2020, Hennessy Rd two-up and solo time trial. Thank you David Carter for sharing your fabulous photos.

05.01.2022 THANK YOU PETER AND WELCOME STEVE ATTA was founded in 1988 by a group of riders who saw the need for a specialist club to cater for Time Triallists in WA and it has been since then that Peter Meyer has been the President. Peter's contribution in the role as President has been too great for words! I'm sure you will all join us in thanking Peter for everything that he has done in this role. At the recent AGM we welcomed our new ATTA President, Steve Oates. You may recognise... Steve on his Giant TT rig, or as the friendly face organising volunteers at events. Thank you Steve for taking this important position on. The Committee supporting Steve in 2020 consists of David Equid; John Healy; Hayden Long; Lorraine MacLennan; Neil McRae; Peter Meyer; Alison Ramm; Lorraine Schutz; Kim van Amerongen; and Steff van Amerongen. 04.01.2022 RACE REPORT - CHAMPION LAKES TT - 6 SEPT 2020 mmmm without doubt, the ride of the day came from the last finisher: Matt Burton's course record on the 8-lapper: 49:56.3 at 48.1km/h. He said a few days ago he had Oli's record in his sights and, even though it mightn't have seemed to be the ideal day for it, he made no mistakes and he looked good, negatively splitting his two twenties. It was magnificent. He said he wouldn't keep us waiting; he didn't. Anyway, it made my day... Thanks Matt. Twenty seven PBs from a total of 107 is not a bad result either for a day that was not entirely 'friendly'. One of them was Rob Hurst, making the most of his fiftieth ride with ATTA; and Dennis Devereaux made sure that his journey up from Bunbury wasn't wasteda huge FIVE minute PB! Vern Merchant also made the journey and took home a PBslightly more modest, but a 'best' all the same. Up at the pointy end, Rafael Amouroux made his first appearance with ATTA and was not a lot slower than Matt: 47.8km/h. But Colin Rose was up there with him and once again made sure the top Standards ranking was his. Most riders looked fairly quick through the finish but Steff VanA was nearly 3km/h faster than any of the other women and, as usual, looked totally in control of her ride. Many thanks as always to our team of helpers and I'm very glad not to have subjected them to conditions like those we had at our last visit to Champion Lakes, the Junior ITT Championships. Iain and Lorraine MacLennan set up the course; Heather Connan was our desk manager; Rachel Thompson and Angie McRobbie were our start team; Lenny and Jenny McIntyre were down at the southern reaches of the lake while Olivia McIntyre was today's number caller for the back-ups. Sophia Erhardt looked after a fairly busy bridge crossing and Darren Gilbert came to have a look at ATTA so we gave him a job for a while at the course exit. Steve was our manager of proceedings. And Amos (Cosmo Coffee) was particularly welcome I thought so. For the record, more than two hundred riders (206) had pre-registered for this ride. 03.01.2022 ATTA CHAMPION LAKES RACE REPORT Thinks It's been a good morning: 35PBs! Finally the weather-man relented and played nicely. Rafael found an extra 1km/h compared to what he had early this month, putting him on equal third best time on the course; with both Rafael and Oli slipping through under 25min, maybe Matt needs to return to the short course to protect his record. It was nice to see three of the 2-lappers finally getting a chance at decent conditions too and recording ...PBs. Today, Heather Connan and Megan Stalker were our rego people; Rachel Thompson was our starter again, assisted by Angie McRobbie and down south, Sue Challen and Michelle Wong kept marauders at bay; Anthea Powell did the back-up calling while Steve McKiernan managed the bridge crossing and, up at the top end, Debra Rho looked after the exit from the events path. Iain and Lorraine MacLennan once more were busy either end of the ride, setting up and packing down the course. It's nice now to be setting up in daylight and a reminder that, not too far away, we'll be actually starting events an hour and a half earlier on Tuesday mornings in Kings Park. PS: What was #77 (Daniel Marks) riding?

01.01.2022 RACE REPORT: WANDI STATE ITT 40km CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 so it goes. What a difference a week makes! Today it was a total contrast to last Monday and we saw top performances to go with what were pretty good conditions. The first FOUR women riders all flew faster than the old benchmark for the course and, indeed, the medal winners each had a taste of the new record: Steff was the first to savour itfor a bit over five minutesbefore Kirsty Turner claimed it as hers.
