25.01.2022 ABA is celebrating National Mothering Week from 6-12 May 2019! This is an important event for ABA that celebrates all things motherhood. This year our theme is... 'All for mums'. We know just how important support is for new mothers and National Mothering Week is a perfect opportunity to let a mum know she is doing an amazing job. In today's day and age, particularly on social media, it is easy for mums to become discouraged about her parenting decisions. So let's take a vow of #nojudgement and help lift each other up! Help us celebrate National Mothering Week by sharing this post and tagging your mum friends, or mums-to-be, below. More information on how we will be celebrating National Mothering Week will be revealed soon! <3 #NMW2019

24.01.2022 Locally we are in 'emergency season' #bushfires #blackouts #closedroads #evacuation #hightemperatures Having an emergency plan to care for your baby is very important. Babies under 6 months of age rely on #breastmilk and/or infant formula. Offer breastfeeds or formula more often during hot weather. Water or other drinks are not needed unless recommended by a doctor. Link for anyone with infants and children https://aba.asn.au/MRiVI pics Martin Von Stoll Oct 19, Adam Stevenson Nov 19

22.01.2022 Infants are particularly vulnerable in emergencies. Without access to appropriate food and fluid they can become seriously ill within hours, particularly in hot weather. Families can be isolated without power or water in their homes for long periods. They can be stranded in their cars while evacuating for hours or even days. -We are so used to having reliable power and water that it’s hard to imagine what it’s like not to have them.... -Gathering supplies at the last minute can be dangerous as it can delay leaving. -So, what do parents and caregivers need in their kit? -Emergency kits should have everything you need to look after your baby for at least three days without having any access to electricity or water. If your baby is less than six months old and fully breastfed, you will need nappies, wipes, and some extra water to keep hydrated. If you feed your baby expressed breastmilk, you need to learn how to hand express, as it may not be possible to wash pump parts. You will also need drinking water for yourself, detergent, around 400ml of water per feed for washing hands, disposable plastic cups or single-use bottles and teats for feeding the baby, as well as nappies and nappy wipes. #bushfire #infantfeedinginemergencies #evacuation

09.01.2022 This really is a bushfire emergency the likes of which we have never seen before in Australia. This is the sort of situation where people need to be prepared fo...r an emergency. Breastfeeding should be considered an emergency preparedness activity with mothers being encouraged from June onwards to avoid weaning if possible until after the summer. Parents and caregivers of formula fed infants should have been advised to have an emergency kit for their baby that included everything they need to feed their baby without access to mains water or power. But this didn't happen. How many now are stuck on roads or isolated in their homes or communities without access to what they need to safely feed their baby?? See more

08.01.2022 The Australian Breastfeeding Association was born 56 years ago when a group of 6 mothers met in the home of Mary Paton. The association they formed has grown to be a national volunteer organisation, supporting thousands of families to breastfeed every year through face to face meetings, the National Breastfeeding Helpline, and live chat service. We provide education to expectant parents and to health professionals, and we work with all levels of governments and organisa...tions to help create breastfeeding-friendly communities. Join thousands of other mums to be a part of the fun and help us continue the work we do https://aba.asn.au/join-now #56today #happybirthday #ozbreastfeeding #mum2mum #breastfeeding

07.01.2022 There is lots of news media about COVID-19 and many people are concerned. If either a mother or baby is unwell it is important to keep breastfeeding.
