22.01.2022 Meet our Doulas... Whitney Rose - Birth & Postnatal Doula @whitneyrose.doula ... Hey there, my name is Whitney. Im a wife and mother of 2 children. I have always loved to take care of people which led me to my passion- becoming a doula! Being a doula for me means being there for a mother and her family in their most intimate moments of pregnancy and birth, supporting and caring for them and their needs. I started my journey of becoming a doula in 2017, at the time I had no children myself but now have 2 children of my own. Throughout that time I have had my own experiences with pregnancy and birth as well as other births Ive been lucky enough to be a part of, connecting and being there for them in any way needed. These experiences have opened my eyes to how courageous and strong women are. Whitney is based in QLD. You can get in touch with her and also see our other Doulas by visiting our Doula directory at www.australiandoulacollege.com.au #doulatraining #doula #doulalove #birth #birthdoula #doulasupport #doulalife #postpartumdoula #labouranddelivery #labour #birthstory #positivebirth #pregnancy #mamastory #birthplan #empoweredbirth #birthworker #australiandoulacollege #endoflifedoula #doulasarenotvisitors #doulasarenotguests #doulasareessential #doulasarenotjustforbirth #doulasareawesome #doulasarehereforyou #endoflifecare #endoflife

22.01.2022 Renees experience is a gift that enabled me to freely express my feelings. Engaging the services of a professional doula seemed like the most natural thing to do when my father unexpectedly died late last year. Having Renee support me through honouring my fathers death in the most dignified and intimate space was a truly cathartic and uplifting experience. Renees experience is a gift that enabled me to freely express my feelings and create a pathway to ensure my fathers... memory will live in my heart forever. - Marianne Keevers #doulatraining #doula #doulalove #birth #birthdoula #doulasupport #doulalife #postpartumdoula #labouranddelivery #labour #birthstory #positivebirth #pregnancy #mamastory #birthplan #empoweredbirth #birthworker #australiandoulacollege #endoflifedoula #doulasarenotvisitors #doulasarenotguests #doulasareessential #doulasarenotjustforbirth #doulasareawesome #doulasarehereforyou #endoflifecare #endoflife

21.01.2022 Spring has sprung.

21.01.2022 An End of Life Doula is not a new concept. Many cultures for thousands of years have supported the practice of people staying in their homes to die, looked after by family and community. However, in the modern Western world there has been a trend towards nursing homes and hospitalization which can lead to isolation, lack of choice and opportunity for all concerned. Death, which is inevitable, often can become a lonely and somber medicalised experience. An... End-of-Life Doula is a non-medical role that provides support, options and education assisting the dying and those around them have their end of life unfold in alignment with their wishes, to preserve the quality of life, well being and self-worth up to and beyond the end of life as we know it.They are the informed companion bringing comfort, support, compassion, and assist a person and their family in feeling safe and supported during this important transition You can search our Doula directory at www.australiandoulacollege.com.au to find a Doula located near you. #doula #birthdoula #doulasupport #endoflifedoula #deathdoula #familysupport #endoflife #endoflifecare #doulalife #postpartumdoula #australiandoulacollege See more

18.01.2022 Some big steps forward but there is a long way to go before Birthing on Country is supported and possible for all First Nations women

18.01.2022 The poster below is a perfect example of anti-breastfeeding "information". This notion that you cant eat certain foods when breastfeeding is not based in scien...ce. Lets look at some of the information. First of all lets look at foods that "okay" for breastfeeding mothers. Nothing really wrong with what they say except that you dont have to take in calcium to make milk with calcium. But the real problem is that this is a diet for people who are relatively affluent. Many mothers could not afford to eat such a diet and thus be frightened into formula feeding, which, I should emphasize is actually more expensive that the foods mentioned here. This is a stratagem used by formula companies. A prime example a few years ago was a campaign by one formula company in Brazil, supported by the Brazilian pediatric society, saying that your breastfed baby eats what you eat. Posters were widely distributed showing a baby suckling at a breast that looks like a doughnut, or looks like a hamburger. What about the panels of foods "to avoid". 1. Sugary foods. The poster says in this section to avoid fatty foods and salty foods as well as sugary foods. We all should try to keep our sugar, salt and fat intake at a reasonable level. But to imply that if you eat a lot of sugar your baby has an increased risk of obesity is just plain wrong. Breastmilk, in fact, does not change much in response to what you eat. It changes from morning to evening, from day to day, from month 1 to month 6, and later, but not because of what you eat. But if you eat a lot of sugar, your milk will have the same amount of sugar as if you ate no sugar at all. 2. "You might find that just a dash of pepper is enough to make your baby irritated and fussy for hours". This is pure fantasy. There is no evidence for this being true. And it is unlikely that anything in pepper or other spices would get into the milk in quantities that would bother the baby. 3. Citrus fruits? "Certain compounds" are supposed to the irritating to the babys gut. Oh, please! If these "certain compounds got into the milk would they not be irritating to the breast or nipple? 4. Caffeine? Babies do not excrete caffeine as rapidly as adults true, but so little gets into the milk that a cup or two of coffee will not bother the baby. Caffeine is given to premature babies as a treatment and nobody worries about how they might excrete caffeine. Its not right to deprive breastfeeding mothers from drinking coffee and tea in reasonable amounts. This poster eliminates much of what mothers like to eat. 5. Processed foods? Not a great choice for anyone, this is not specific to breastfeeding mothers. But just as above, the preservatives will not get into the milk in any significant quantities. 6. Garlic? Are they insane? Garlic does not bother babies. This is prejudice against people who eat garlic. Most of the world loves garlic and eat it when the baby breastfeeds without harm to anyone. 7. No peppermint, fennel, parsley, or chamomile? There is no evidence for this to show that the way people typically eat these can reach therapeutic levels. 8. Alcohol, no level of alcohol in the milk is safe for the breastfed baby? Except that almost no alcohol gets into the milk. See this article http://ibconline.ca/maternal-medications/. Alcohol is discussed near the end of the article, but its worth reading the whole thing. This poster is an appalling attempt to frighten women out of breastfeeding and enjoying what they like to eat. These restrictions on what breastfeeding mothers can eat have been debunked decades ago. Lets encourage good nutrition for everyone, and lets stop haranguing breastfeeding mothers into stopping breastfeeding by worrying them about their diets. You can find a more about how to prevent problems with breastfeeding, including preventing fussiness, "colic", "reflux" "allergy to something in the mothers milk" and much more in my ebook called Breastfeeding: Empowering Parents: www.ibconline.ca/ebook

She has spoken on a variety of radio programmes, at conferences and seminars and is a regular contributor for a range of publications, websites and podcasts. Renee has moved to change the way we think about Doula support, helping launch Preparing the Way with its founder Helen Callanan some years ago, with a view to create the space for the wider community to see Doula support though a broader lens, supporting all major life transitions, not just in the birthing space. In 2019 Renee proudly partnered with Charles Darwin University to co facilitate Accredited Doula training for Indigenous women in the remote First Nations community of Galiwinku. She has sat on the Consumer Advisory Board of the Australian College of Midwives, trained thousands of Doulas and supported hundreds of women, their partners and families through pregnancy, birth, early parenting and end of life over the course of her career. A fierce advocate for human rights and the rights of all sentient beings, Renee blends her lifes work, spending downtime with her family, friends and fur babies. www.reneeadair.com.au

11.01.2022 How is this happening? How does the peak obstetric body in Australia get to unilaterally dictate this ban of warm water immersion during labour, against evidence, against the objections of, and with no consultation with, our peak midwifery and consumer bodies? #enough

10.01.2022 #repost @movember New research has shown that men who take part in our annual Movember campaign are more likely to report better mental health and wellbeing than the general male population. The research showed that Mo Bros score more highly than the general male population across a range of mental wellbeing indicators, including having lower levels of negative mental wellbeing and higher levels of eudaimonic wellbeing (living a life with purpose). The global survey of 7,16...2 men compared our database of fundraisers with a nationally representative sample of the general male population online. It found that Movember fundraisers are more likely to admit when they are struggling with their mental health and to seek help when they need it - which can have a positive impact on overall wellbeing. #movember2020 #menshealth #mentalhealth #movember #doulatraining #doula #doulalove #birth #birthdoula #doulasupport #doulalife #postpartumdoula #labouranddelivery #labour #birthstory #positivebirth #pregnancy #mamastory #birthplan #empoweredbirth #birthworker #australiandoulacollege #endoflifedoula #doulasarenotvisitors #doulasarenotguests #doulasareessential #endoflifecare #endoflife

09.01.2022 Today is the start of Birth trauma week. Birth trauma can be either physical or psychological or a combination of both. Birth trauma can leave life long emotional and physical scars including postnatal depression and/or anxiety and post-partum post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Here in Australia suicide is shockingly the number 1 cause of maternal death during pregnancy and the first 12 months after birth. This is NOT good enough. We MUST treat women better in birth. Wo...men never forget the day their babies are born. We need to provide better birthing options, we need to listen to women, we must question why the intervention and caesarean rate is so high, and we must provide more services post natally, offering a soft landing place for new mamma and papas to go on and be the best parents they can be. For those of you who have experienced birth trauma, we hear you, we believe you and are sorry this happened to you. Our hearts are with all pregnant and birthing women and new parents who have had to navigate so much this year during covid, adding a new layer of trauma we have never seen before. Please know we stand with you. Remember you can hire a Doula for your pregnancy, birth and/or post natal period - face to face or virtually. You are not alone. With love

08.01.2022 After long and hard consideration, we have made the decision to postpone the ADC Retreat for 2020. We plan to reschedule for the same time 2021. We are very disappointed to have to do this, but with all the restrictions and uncertainty at the moment it is the only option. We will bring you an amazing, informative and connected gathering in 2021.... Unfortunately with the same situation affecting all gatherings we have also cancelled our face to face family & Friends Graduation days around the country. We will however be presenting two virtual options to gather family, friends and your Doula community together. These will run on September 5th and October 17th 3 5 pm Further details to follow. #doulatraining #doula #doulalove #birth #birthdoula #doulasupport #doulalife #postpartumdoula #labouranddelivery #labour #birthstory #positivebirth #pregnancy #mamastory #birthplan #empoweredbirth #birthworker #australiandoulacollege #endoflifedoula #doulasarenotvisitors #doulasarenotguests #doulasareessential #doulasarenotjustforbirth #doulasareawesome #doulasarehereforyou #endoflifecare #endoflife See more

07.01.2022 Theres a woman I follow on Instagram, who takes dead animals she happens across, usually on the road, adorns them in flowers, and photographs them as a way of ...honoring their lives. Here is a caption from her latest memorial: "Im sorry. Its what I say to each one. Not just for me, or for the driver who hit her, but for all of us, our cruelties and harms, intentional or not, our indifferences and blind eyes to the other beings. I adorn her and take a photo each time, not just to honor her, this one, with beauty, but to honor all the beings we fail to see. May the color and light from the flowers, branches, weeds, and leaves surrounding them in death help us to see them all. All of them." Amanda Stronza is an elephant conservationist (http://www.ecoexistproject.org/). I highly recommend a follow - @amandastronza on IG. She takes plenty of amazing photographs of live animals as well. All photos Amanda Stronza Captions from original posts included with each picture. While I appreciate all the friend requests, this FB account is for connecting with people I know IRL.
