17.01.2022 Pimped is one of those surprising and unsettling movies that if, like me, you had no expectations whatsoever, are left pleasantly entertained by its end. A feature film directorial debut for David Barker, who also produced and co-wrote with Lou Mentor, Pimped is a foray into the dark relationship between Lewis (Benedict Samuel) and his housemate, Kenneth (Robin Goldsworthy) and Sarah/ Rachael (Ella Scott Lynch), a provocative woman Lewis meets in a bar.

05.01.2022 NOT DEAD YET!! Australian films took $55.9 million at the local box office, a 4.5% share of box office is remarkable! Today the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia (MPDAA) published the finalised box office data for 2018, rounding out the series of metrics Screen Australia utilises to measure the health of the local screen industry. Australian films took $55.9 million at the local box office the best result since 2015 when Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dre...ssmaker were released. 2018 was a stellar year for Australian content, with new local dramas on every free-to-air channel, Foxtel, Stan and Netflix. There were multiple break-out hits including Mystery Road, Underbelly Files: Chopper, Mr Inbetween and kids sensation Bluey, which were all fan favourites and commercially successful, said Screen Australia CEO Graeme Mason. For Australian films to finish the year with a 4.5% share of box office is remarkable considering our 92 titles were competing with 908 foreign films for cinema space. Landmark films were added to the Australian cinematic canon, including Ladies in Black and Sweet Country, and we saw the continued resurgence of the feature documentary format led by Gurrumul and Working Class Boy. Of the 92 Australian films in market in 2018, 63 were new titles. https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au//01-22-2018-year-in-rev

04.01.2022 Government’s JobKeeper decision arouses ire in the screen industry https://www.if.com.au/governments-jobkeeper-decision-arou/

04.01.2022 The Australian titles released in cinemas this year including holdovers will overtake the calendar 2017 total in the next week or so, boosted by Bruce Beresfords Ladies in Black. Through the end of September the Oz films and feature docs had grossed $47.8 million, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia (MPDAA), within spitting distance of last years $49.4 million. After a second weekend drop of just 10 per cent Ladies in Blacks takings have i...ncreased by nearly $800,000 to $5.97 million, including $361,000 on Tuesday, so the 1950s-set comedy-drama distributed by Sony is on course to surpass $12 million. https://www.if.com.au/australian-films-scorecard-2018-set/
