25.01.2022 The proposed meeting between #Trump and the neo-Ottoman merchant of #genocide, #Erdogan, is appalling. The Australian Hellenic Council strongly agrees with the sentiments of American Hellenic Institute in this open letter to the US President. #Turkey is not a true #NATO ally and it continues to threaten the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean.
25.01.2022 It was great to catch up with the Australian Ambassador-Designate to the US, Arthur Sinodinos, in Sydney at his last farewell function before he leaves for Wash...ington. I expressed my heartfelt appreciation for the support and advice Arthur has given over the years in respect of the Australian Hellenic Council’s lobbying efforts in Canberra and his unwavering support for the campaign to reunify the #Parthenon Sculptures. I know Arthur will be a fantastic ambassador for Australia given his wealth of knowledge and experience. He also expressed a keen desire to meet and connect with various Greek-American organisations in the US, particularly Washington. Good luck . See more
24.01.2022 Congratulations to Kostas Vlasis on your appointment as the new Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (responsible for Overseas Greeks). Your first official enga...gement after being sworn in should be to visit Australia to conduct the meetings with the various Greek-Australian community leaders which your predecessor was unable to fulfil. As Kyriakos Mitsotakis would understand, the #Greek #diaspora and the passion for #Hellenism are not confined to the United States . See more
24.01.2022 The newly-rebuilt and refurbished Western Australian Museum also known as Boola Bardip has enhanced the former Hellenic Gallery which included a copy of a large... section of the #Parthenon #frieze. The new museum, which appears to share some design elements with the Acropolis Museum in #Athens, also provides an exciting new interactive digitised light display by local artist Sam Price which brings the colours and movement of the Panathenaic frieze to life. Local politician Peter Katsambanis also raised the splendid new display in Parliament on 20 October 2020 as a fitting tribute to #Hellenism and what might be if the original #ParthenonSculptures were reunified in #Athens. 24.01.2022 The MoU consists only of Turkey’s thoughts on how it imagines its imperialist fantasies.
23.01.2022 THE RETURN OF THE PARTHENON SCULPTURES Excellent seminar held on 20 September 2020 by the Greek Australian community in Perth, Western Australia for the reunif...ication of the Parthenon Sculptures. The Labor Member of Parliament, Simon Millman MLA, who has previously spoken in support of the campaign for return, pointed out that European museums have started to return indigenous remains and it is now time for the British Museum to return the Parthenon Marbles. Of interest also is the fact that the revamped Museum of Western Australia in Perth features a copy of a large part of the Parthenon Frieze which was formerly housed in what was the Hellenic Gallery. 14.01.2022 The appalling ‘Turkification’ of the #Trump White House: The upshot of Turkey’s outreach has been a Trump administration that has often been strikingly receptive to the interests of Erdoan’s authoritarian government. #Erdogan’s unholy influence over @realDonaldTrump exposed.

13.01.2022 Congress has led on US policy in #EasternMediterranean and is taking the lead once again, criticizing Turkey’s attempt to take a potential symbol for peace - #Varosha - and turn it into a flashpoint that could lead to permanent division of #Cyprus. bit.ly/3nwropk
11.01.2022 It was a pleasure on behalf of the Australian Hellenic Council to meet the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus H.E Mr Demetris Syllouris whils...t in Sydney with his entourage and the Cyprus High Commissioner to Australia, Martha Mavrommatis. Together with representatives of the local Jewish and Cypriot communities we had an interesting discussion about various geopolitical issues of mutual strategic importance to #Greece, #Cyprus and #Israel as well as helping to coordinate future activities in the diaspora. 10.01.2022 BREAKING! Julian Leeser MP Joins Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks in Calling for Australian Recognition of 1915 Genocides The Chair of the Australian Parliament'...s House of Representatives Standing Committees on Migration and Indigenous Affairs, Julian Leeser MP has signed an Affirmation of Support backing the Joint Justice Initiative for national recognition of the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek Genocides. A prominent Jewish-Australian politician, Leeser has spoken for recognition of the Armenian Genocide in speeches within and outside parliament, as well as in a parliamentary debate where he emphatically called out Turkey's denial of 1915. "I think the world has been too slow to recognise and call out the Armenian Genocide a century ago for what it was," Leeser said in the December 2018 debate. "It's time every nation in the world, including our own, recognised the Armenian genocide for what it was. It's time the Erdogan regime in Turkey owned up to their own history as well." "Mr. Leeser has always shown great empathy for issues of genocide justice, and is a friend and advocate for truth in Australia's Parliament," said Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) Executive Director, Haig Kayserian. "We in the Armenian-Australian, Assyrian-Australian and Greek-Australian communities are honoured to have such a strong ally in our cause for recognition and justice of the genocides faced by our ancestors in 1915." 08.01.2022 It is outrageous that Turkey continues to deny the Armenian Genocide and yet has the temerity to complain about commentary in the Greek City Times about Turkey's genocidal past. Anyone who has any doubts should read Geoffrey Robertson's compelling work, "An Inconvenient Genocide: Who Now Remembers the Armenians?"

06.01.2022 AHI releases a report that details the extensive influence the Turkish government exerts in Washington through lobbying contracts, political action committees, ...and the funding of think tank organizations. Our AHI team has researched and assembled this report that details the means and lengths to which Turkey will go to exercise influence in Washington, President Nick Larigakis said. Although Turkey’s overall expenditures on lobbying has declined in recent years, it is still quite an eye-opening investment of resources. Our report also identifies high-profile hires of former members of congressional leadership and cites instances of where Turkey has been directly or indirectly involved in the violation of Federal Election Commission laws. 02.01.2022 Yesterday, the House took bold action in defense of our nation by passing measures regarding Turkey’s nefarious role in destabilizing the Middle East. The Prot...ect Against Conflict by Turkey (PACT) Act, which I co-sponsored, enacts sanctions against Turkey for its egregious conduct. Turkey’s actions in Syria have cause numerous civilian deaths, worsened the existing humanitarian crisis, and has caused even greater instability in the region. This is not the behavior that we expect from a so-called American ally. In fact, the only entities which stand to benefit from Turkey’s actions are known bad actors on the international stage who do not have America’s best interests at heart, such as Vladimir Putin, Bashar al-Assad, Iran and Islamic extremists. We must hold Turkey accountable for its flagrant disregard for U.S. interests, and send a strong message to the international community that we are serious when it comes to defending our national security.
