24.01.2022 It might have been wet and windy but we loved our first Kindy Orientation session today. The new students were SO excited and had the best morning. Hardly any tears to report (and that’s just the parents) and lots of smiling faces at the end of the session. The day was superbly organized by Ms Howarth, Ms Balt and the Kindy team with huge help from Year 6, teaching staff, the office team and our SLSOs. We’re looking forward to Day 2 next Thursday.

The final day for our art display is Friday this week. Hurry down if you haven’t seen the beautiful works created by Avalon students.

19.01.2022 We have all been touched by cancer at some point in our lives and it has a big impact on our community. We thought it appropriate to share this appeal from Avalon parent Jessica Shaw who is raising money for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Good luck, Jessica! "I recently lost my beloved sister Rachael to cancer. She was only 48 years old and it was the second time cancer struck her. With the help of doctors and research she beat it at age 6. This time she fought ex...tremely hard, endured immense pain and suffering but it was too much. I am so proud of her and feel privileged to call such a beautiful person my sister. Most people’s lives have been affected by cancer in one way or another, it’s a cruel disease that has become all to familiar. Last year alone almost 50,000 Australians died from cancer. I want to do something to help create a future without cancer. Please help by donating what you can to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Use the link below - it will take you to a page with my name and ACRF. When I reach $5,000 I’m going to shave my hair! This is for you Rachael https://shave.acrf.com.au/fundraisers/jessicashaw/hairdare Thank you so much Jessica Shaw"

18.01.2022 We all need something to brighten the mood...this might do the trick!

16.01.2022 As the Blues Brothers said,We’re putting the band back together. Covid-19 restrictions have presented lots of challenges for our musicians this year but FULL rehearsals finally resume for all bands this week. Here the Training Band are blowing off the cobwebs in our newly refurbished Elouera Hall.

15.01.2022 Happy World Kindness Day, Avalon!

14.01.2022 New parking signs were installed by the council yesterday outside the OOSH on the south-eastern corner of the school on Old Barrenjoey Road. This increases the 2 minute parking area in the afternoon only and maximises space for parents' pick up. Whilst this may not be of great assistance during current COVID pick up arrangements, it should certainly ease the situation when ‘normal’ pickup arrangements resume in the future.

14.01.2022 Our last newsletter for the term is available now - including some lovely pictures of our public speaking class champions. Happy reading! http://avalonps.schoolzineplus.com/newsletter/67702

13.01.2022 A special shout out to Saskia Van der Wallen and Eve Pace who went busking last weekend. Self taught, the girls sang their songs and raised $107 for our fundraising cause "Caring for Cobargo". We are all very proud of them and the initiative that they have shown.

11.01.2022 More epic camp fun for Year 6! Thanks to Mrs Shlager, Mr Whitaker, Miss Pashley, Miss Sparks, Miss Byrne and Mr Grice for taking such good care of them all.

11.01.2022 This Friday afternoon, our great colleague and friend Mr Ian Bowsher, Principal of Barrenjoey High School, was presented with a prestigious ACEL Leadership Award. Held online due to COVID restrictions, Mr Bowsher was presented the award by Ms Cindy Gardiner (Principal, Bilgola Plateau PS) after the citation was read by our own principal, Mr Andy Rankin. We are certainly going to miss Ian's presence and strong leadership as our three schools have formed a particularly strong bond in recent years - we wish him every success in his new leadership role.

06.01.2022 This Saturday 7th November, Maddie Dickinson of 5NC will be shaving her head for cancer. Her poppy was diagnosed midway through this year with a Stage 4 terminal brain tumour. She has decided to support him and shave her head to raise money. If you'd like to support our brave student, please follow the link below to donate. She's very close to her target of $3000. We're very proud of you, Maddie!... https://www.doitforcancer.com.au/fundraisers/taryndickinson

05.01.2022 Earlier in 2020 we applied for an Eco Grant offered by Northern Beaches Council. We have just found out that we have been successful and have been awarded $2000. The aim of our application was to further reduce our school's carbon emissions. We plan to use the $2000 to further develop our Bellevue St garden with the purchase of propagation benches, a Subpod composting system and garden tools. The application took into account the future development of the Avalon Garden Club and the students involvement in creating a sustainable learning zone. Thanks must go to Ms Skavaas, Mr Seaton and Mrs Bateson, as well as Fiona Tobin for her support and wealth of knowledge in developing our wish list for this space.

01.01.2022 Clearly being a school with a good reputation can be a blessing and a curse for our community, as this article and the screenshots show the impact on house prices in Avalon and Newport. This news story, mentioning our school, was also featured on 7 News last Thursday. https://www.domain.com.au//the-pockets-of-sydney-buye/amp/
