21.01.2022 Breast augmentation using implants has been performed for 50 years. By contrast, breast augmentation by fat transfer has only been available for the last 5-7 years. As it is a new procedure, it has not as yet been widely adopted. Surgeons are generally conservative and prefer to stick with methods they know rather than try something new. Unfortunately, breast implants have been associated with significant problems and many breast implants are now being removed. Many women ...also prefer not to place foreign substances inside their bodies and are seeking a better, more natural method of breast augmentation. This has been the stimulus behind the development of Breast Augmentation by Fat Transfer. So what are some of the myths and actual facts about breast augmentation using your own fat? Our latest blog covers 10 myths and facts anyone researching Autologous Fat Transfer should know. https://www.avenueplasticsurgery.com.au/breast-augmentation
19.01.2022 It is pleasing to see that finally, the FDA in the USA, has recognised that people with silicone breast implants are prone to an illness known as Breast Implant Associated Illness as well as the disease known as ALCL. At Avenue Plastic Surgery we encounter many patients who have undiagnosed (silent) rupture of their silicone breast implants. Many of these patients have significant symptoms. 13.01.2022 This 50 year old woman had McGhan 245 cc round textured implants inserted 9 years ago in China. The implants were inserted through a hemi periareolar incision and place in front of the pectoral muscles. Prior to her implant insertion she used to wear an A cup bra. So she had very little breast tissue and had stretched skin as a result of breast feeding her daughter. A few years after her implants had been inserted, she noticed that her breasts began to feel hard. Sub...sequently they actually became painful although she had no other symptoms of Breast Implant Illness. The operation was done thorough the same hemi periareolar incision and the implant was found to be surrounded by a firm fibrous capsule. The capsule could be easily dissected from the surrounding breast tissue without bleeding or deformation but was firmly adherent to the implant causing distortion. A total En Bloc capsulectomy was performed together with removal of the implants. On removing the implants from the firm fibrous capsules, the implants were found to be intact, even though an ultrasound had suggested they had ruptured. She elected not to undergo any other type of breast reconstruction at this stage. See more

05.01.2022 Are you considering plastic surgery? Making the decision to go undergo a cosmetic surgery shouldn’t be taken lightly. Did you know that anyone with a basic me...dical degree can perform cosmetic surgery in Australia, without undergoing specialist surgical training? Becoming a Plastic Surgeon takes years of additional training and experience after a medical degree. In Dr Moncrieff’s case, he invested 17 years in total in training and an additional aesthetic fellowship, and has been in practice for 12 years since. That’s nearly 3 decades in medicine! The best way to check if someone is a qualified Plastic Surgeon is to look for the full initials FRACS (Plas Surg) after their name. You can also visit the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons - ASAPS website and check their member register. 04.01.2022 Can breast implants make you ill? After many years of denial, surgeons are realising that the answer to this question is a resounding YES. Especially textured breast implants! Today I saw a woman for her 3 month post-operative review. I had taken out her textured silicone implants. Her breasts were then reconstructed by grafting her own fat to replace volume and a breast lift to tighten her stretched skin.... Not only was she very happy with the appearance of her new all natural breasts but she remarked that she felt so much better since her implants had been removed. Although she never thought of herself as a person suffering from Breast Implant Associated Illness, she said that that her terrible headaches had gone, the vagueness that she had been experiencing had gone, her energy levels had increased and she was no sleeping so much better since her implants had been removed. So, YES she said, I feel much healthier now that my implants have been removed. I never even realised at the time that my symptoms could have been caused by my breast implants. Interestingly, pathological examination of the capsules around her implants showed chronic inflammation. The implants were not leaking. It is my opinion that it is this inflammation of the capsule (which is especially severe around textured breast implants) that causes the symptoms we now recognise as Breast Implant Associated Illness.

03.01.2022 Breast tissue is made up of two distinct components. There is the breast glandular tissue which is the milk producing part and there is the breast fat which is made up of fat cells just like those in other parts of the body. Often women with small breasts have sufficient glandular tissue to be able to breast feed as this tissue grows during pregnancy. What is missing is an excess of fat around the glandular tissue and this results in breasts that may be seen as too small. Breast cancer develops in the glandular tissue and not in the fat tissue. A fat transfer procedure augments the fat tissue and has no effect on the glandular component of the breast.
03.01.2022 So, what can you expect after getting Liposuction at Avenue Plastic Surgery? You'll have to wear a compression garment 24/7 for the next 6 weeks. For the first few days of recovery, you can expect moderate pain and soreness as well as quite a bit of swelling and bruising. There may also be some leaking from the incision sites which should only last for around 48 hours. Limit your activity for the first 6 weeks but especially in the first week. ... Many patients can return to work after 1 week, but if you have a physical job, you may want to schedule additional time off in order to recover fully. At 6 weeks, most of the bruising and swelling will have subsided. There are typically no restrictions on activity after 6 weeks. See more
